Threshold Spirits: Who Guards Your Doorway? 🚪
The threshold of your home isn’t just a physical boundary — it’s a liminal space where spirit and energy pass. In many traditions, guardian spirits are said to dwell at thresholds, protecting the line between the outer world and your sacred inner space.
🪦 Names Across Cultures:
• Lares (Rome): household spirits, often honored at the entryway
• Domovoi (Slavic): home spirits - may live under the hearth or near doors
• Hearth Wights (Norse): beings that guard thresholds & corners
• Hekate (Greek): goddess of crossroads and doorways - often petitioned for boundary protection
🔑 Witch Ways to Honour Threshold Spirits:
• Leave small offerings (milk, honey, bread, coins) on the doorstep or just inside
• Hang protective talismans over or near the door (iron keys, rowan wood, hag stones)
• Sweep toward the door to banish, sweep inward to welcome
• Bless the doorframe with salt water, oil, or herbs at Sabbats or full moons
• Whisper a greeting or spell when you come and go — they hear it all
🕯️ The doorway is where intention enters. Protect it, bless it, and speak to the unseen.

Reiki
At first glance, Reiki seems harmless. The official term for it is pseudoscience, but I won’t take up issue with anyone that believes it works, it’s not for me to decide - after all, I practice magic and talk to spirits. What I do want to talk about is when it started, and where it's going.
Despite the common misconception that it’s an ancient Japanese practice, Reiki began with a man named Mikao Usui and it’s speculated that he came up with the concept sometime in the 1920’s when he spent 21 days fasting and praying on Mount Kurama. Reiki, as it began, is not harmful in and of itself - in fact, it goes hand-in-hand (lol, I’m so sorry for the bad joke) with many other religions and spiritualities that involve a “laying of hands” healing technique.
Mikao Usui passed the practice on to several students; but most importantly, it was Chujiro Hayashi who really began to monetize and create a movement out of Reiki - founding the first institute which offered energy healing sessions to paying customers. From there, Hayashi’s student Hawayo Takata carried the Reiki practice to Hawai'i where it gained ground and spread across the States, becoming quite the fad among the holistic new age crowd.
And really, therein lies the problem with Reiki - whatever Usui’s original intentions were, the Reiki that exists now functions on a similar level to MLMs. It begins with a session, which can range anywhere between $40.00 to $300.00 (and that was at last check when Washington Post wrote an article on it, around 2014).
One session leads to more sessions, as people become dependent upon it. But soon they’re encouraged to learn it themselves, and wouldn’t you just know it, there’s an awful lot of online classes out there to teach you how to practice Reiki…for a fee, of course.
Once you finish a class though, you can then sign up and pay for further attunements! Because Reiki is a lot like being an RPG character in that you need to fucking level up (a lot!) in order to get stronger in your online long distance energy healing.
Because Reiki and New Age have taken to each other like two peas in a pod, you now have Reiki practitioners who appropriate "incorporate" chakras, crystals, yoga, and law of attraction concepts into their sessions.
As you may be able to predict where I'm going with this (I'm still gonna say it), Reiki is naturally a very popular technique used in cults. And while I’m sure it’s great for clearing those negative blockages that prevent you from finding your soul-mate or becoming your higher self, it's important to be able to spot the lure when you see it.

The Quiet Magic of Houseplants
A guide to the energy your houseplants carry.. not just decoration - guardians, listeners, spells.
Your home is a living ecosystem, and your plants are more than décor. Listen closely. Their energy adapts to yours. Water them with intention. Speak kindly. Let them teach you how to root, grow, and reach.
🌱 Snake Plant (Sansevieria)
Often placed near entryways, this plant is a natural protector. It’s said to absorb heavy, stagnant energy and act as a silent shield. Low maintenance, but incredibly resilient—just like its energy.
🪴 Pothos (Devil’s Ivy)
Symbolic of growth, renewal, and abundance. Its trailing vines bring a sense of movement and expansion. Easy to propagate, making it ideal for spells or manifestations involving multiplication and prosperity.
🌷 Peace Lily
This plant thrives in emotional spaces. Known for softening tense environments, it supports grief, reflection, and restoration. A living vessel of peace, often blooming when it senses the home needs healing.
🌾 Prayer Plant (Maranta)
Named for the way its leaves fold at night, as if in prayer. It carries quiet, introspective energy. A good companion for dreamwork, journaling, and moments of intentional stillness.
🌿 Rosemary (in a pot or garden bed)
Sharp, clear, and grounded. Keeps memory strong and spirits out. Can be used in both kitchen magic and cleansing rituals. Rosemary is loyal, protective, and full of history.

Witch Bottles: Your Low-Key Magical Security System 🧿✨
Witch bottles have been used for centuries to ward off evil, bad luck, and hexes. They’re simple to make, powerful, and easily hidden. Here’s the modern rundown:
What You’ll Need:
• A small jar or bottle (glass works best)
• Pins, nails, or broken glass (to “pierce” negative energy)
• Salt (protection + purification)
• Vinegar, wine, or urine (yes, traditional witch bottles often included this!)
• Herbs: rosemary, black pepper, bay leaf, nettle (warding)
• Personal taglock (hair, nail, thread, etc.)
• Seal it with wax or tightly close the lid
How It Works:
The sharp items “trap” harmful intentions. The liquid drowns them. The taglock connects the spell to you.
Bury it near your front door, property line, or keep it hidden in your home (especially if protection is for emotional/spiritual matters).
These bottles are protective, not offensive. Think magical home security quietly working in the background.
Do not open old bottles. If you break or open one, dispose of it carefully it’s like breaking a magical barrier.

taglocks tldr;
taglocks are items used to tie a spell to an object or person, whom i will be referring to as a target for the purpose of this post.
taglocks are items or ideas that represent the target or have belonged to the target - their name written down, a photo of them, their signature, DNA, etc.
they are especially useful for sympathetic magic (using objects or actions resembling or symbolically associated with the situation you want to influence).
keep in mind, the term “sympathetic” has nothing to do with actual sympathy or empathy - it refers to the idea of “like attracts like” and relates to the synchronicities and ties between objects and events that are involved to make these spells successful. think “making a poppet representing a target [using taglocks] in order to gain control over them or their actions.”
sympathetic magic can be helpful or harmful depending on your intent.
“isn’t all magic sympathetic?” well not necessarily - let’s say you want to cast a shield over yourself. you could go the route of visualization and energy manipulation to form the shield; or you could go the sympathetic route and use objects or items that represent yourself and the type of shield you want in order to perform the spell instead.
taglocks can be added to poppets, spell jars, sachets, or any other vessel you wish to contain the spell and its ingredients.

re: cursing
i’m not going to write a lengthy how-to guide on cursing, but here’s the TLDR;
cleanse your space - start fresh, have a clean slate, and calm the energy in the room
protect yourself - now’s the time to cast a circle or [insert some other shield or ward]
channel - gather energy; turn on your battery or plug in your charger, so to speak
cast the spell - as usual, do whatever you want
banish - get rid of anything that shouldn’t be there and cleanse what’s left
ground - shake it off, go drink some water and have a snack

Foraging on the Feast of the Holy Trinity

Spent most of the afternoon in the pine woods where I found some large shiso leaves for pickling and a ton of beautyberry bushes for later in the year—and a really cool piece of wood that looks like driftwood.
After I scoped the woods I hit the black cherry tree with a hook and got a little more berries, but I think I’m going to have to half the cordial recipe. I don’t think I’ll get anymore out this tree and the other tree still has mostly green berries.
Grabbed some pine needles in honor of the Feast of the Holy Trinity. In the Znojmo region of Moravia where my ancestors were from pine needles were collected on this day and dried and put on the fire during thunderstorms as protection.
And one more sunflower had opened. I was exhausted by the time I hit the mimosa tree further from the house. As well as hot and sweaty—85°F and muggy today. So after gathering a small handful of blooms I decided I’d hit the tree tomorrow and give it my full attention.

Heyo! There was a post I think made by you that said something like "witchcraft has rules, and also no rules" or something like that. I feel like I agree, but I have a hard time articulating it to others about what that means. Funny, I run a witchcraft blog but I'm not too great with words lmao. Would you mind expanding on that a bit, so I can see it "dumbed down" a bit? Because it completely makes sense to me, but I can't tell you why it makes sense.. Thank you!
How I see it, I think witchcraft has "rules" like don't be an asshole to people, don't cultural appropriate, don't be bigoted, moral guidelines that are common sense for being a good person in general, as well as "rules" that each witch might set for themselves and their own practice. At the same time, witchcraft doesn't have "rules" that govern witches and their crafts like the laws of a land. There's no rule book on how one should or can practice, no one gets to tell you what to do, but one should also consider not just doing whatever one wants with no regards to others and the consequences of their actions. So, rules and no rules.

Lately, I've been seeing a few videos that I disagree with, so I'll sum up my thoughts here.
You do not need to be white to be a Norse pagan.
You do not need to have Nordic or Norse ancestry to be a Norse pagan.
You can be a Norse pagan regardless of race, skin color, or ethnicity.
