02x09 - “Smart Power”
Nick was so happy/proud about those letters and even downplayed his own role in their release as he was updating June on the Canada trip…crediting Luke mostly for the leak. I live for these beautiful yet heartbreaking moments between Nick and June.
He didn’t have to tell her anything, yet he told her EVERYTHING, which is a testament to Nick’s REAL love for June.

“On the ADWD cover for Brazil, I put Daenerys at the top of the stairs of the meereenese pyramid. I had undoubtedly been, unconsciously, influenced by the series. And George told me that Daenerys wants equality for everyone, she wants to be at the same level as her people, so I had her climb down to keep it consistent” - Marc Simonetti

I’m not satisfied with the cave scene. Many of you aren’t either. And this is why:
Bellamy takes no responsibility and doesn’t apologize to Octavia for poisoning her, overthrowing Wonkru, or abandoning her on Sanctum. He still thinks he’s right and SHE’S the one always begging for understanding and forgiveness. The story of s6 is how Octavia lowered herself back down to “her brother’s sister” so she would be acceptable in his eyes. The only way he will love her is when she fits the mold of who HE thinks she should be. That’s not redemption. That’s simply adjusting your world view to fit your brother’s (that I don’t personally even like).
I hope that she discovers who she really is and that it has nothing to do with what Bellamy thinks she should be. I want OCTAVIA, not Bellamy’s little sister.

Let’s talk about what Sophie Turner said about Sansa. Because it is total bullshit. Bullshite. Shit de Bull. Shit a la Bull.  There’s a few things she said, namely that: Sansa’s rule would be democratic. WTF? Sansa would never marry. Sansa would live to a ripe old age and die happy. First off, Sansa only learned about democracy precisely two days ago, and laughed at it with the rest of the clowns. The idea that she would integrate any type of democracy into her monarchy is insensible, and laughable. Let me repeat. Her monarchy. Her entire story up until the point where she was crowned, has been about her desire for a monarchy. A ruling system that is based on absolute power and bloodlines. A democracy is what Dany wanted, so once again, these fake-ass bitches are trying to take what was Dany’s and give it to Sansa. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.   Second, Sansa has to marry. Even Dany, Queen and conqueror extraordinaire, knew that it was imperative for herself to marry to once she came to Westeros. That’s why she gave poor Daario the boot, because somewhere along the line, if she had lived, she would have had to marry to secure an alliance. Sansa would also have to marry. Sansa needs heirs, and support. Logically, it would make sense for Sansa to marry Robert Arryn/Sweet Robin. The Vale isn’t under Sansa’s rule, and a marriage to Sweet Robin would guarantee the support and loyalty of the Vale’s armies, and heirs. Sansa, as Queen in the North, needs kids. There always has to be a Stark in Winterfell, right? If Sansa actually cared for the North, she would immediately get on the task of creating a heir to rule when she is gone. If there is no heir, there is no longer any Starks. And then everything Sansa “worked” (hahahahaha) for is gone. I can understand Sansa not wanting to marry after Ramsay, but Dany went through the same thing, and was willing to marry. So, there is no excuse.
Third, Sansa isn’t even going to make it to thirty. Yara is going to head a clandestine mission a few years along the line and shank her in the kennels in revenge for Dany. I said what I said.

I did some research on paint colors and I read that red doors traditionally had various meanings such as warmth, prosperity and hospitality. Also, in the United States a red door used to be a symbol that a house was part of the Underground Railroad and would hide escaped slaves. I wonder how much of this symbolism GRRM was aware of in making the red door a motif for Daenerys.
Ooh, that’s interesting. I never really looked into the meaning of “the red door”. I just took it as a symbolic representation of dany’s childhood, her innocence and the unattainable idealistic dreams that she has. (“All that Daenerys wanted back was the big house with the red door, the lemon tree outside her window, the childhood she had never known.”)
However, now that you mention it, I checked and this is what I found:
America - In early American tradition, a front door that was read meant “welcome”. This meant that travelers that were passing by knew which homes they could turn to for a night’s rest and some meal. Red doors were also used to mark homes of the Underground Railroad so that any runaway slaves knew which homes were safe.
China - Red is a very important color in Chinese culture. It’s the color of luck! Chinese also believe in Feng Shui philosophy, where red doors play a big role. In Feng Shui, the front door is considered the mouth of the home. A red door is said to create welcoming energy.
Ireland - Did you ever notice that Ireland is full of brightly colored doors? The reason stems from folklore and rebellion. Doors are painted red to ward off ghosts and evil spirits. But the tradition of bright colors doors came during the Victorian era. Irish civilians were ordered to paint their front doors black in honor of Queen Victoria passing. Instead, in an act of rebellion, they paint them bright colors like red!
Biblical - Did you know red also has biblical roots? During biblical times a red door was symbolic protection against the Angel of Death. Some people link the red doors to the smears of lambs blood the Jews put across their doors for protection from the plagues. Even today, many Churches have red doors to signify this first Passover.
For me, the last option, the biblical one seems to be most apt interpretation.
This is a direct quote from AGOT:
The red door was so far ahead of her, and she could feel the icy breath behind, sweeping up on her. If it caught her she would die a death that was more than death, howling forever alone in the darkness.
The red door seems to signify the end of her path, the completion of her dreams, a safe haven from all the horrors of the world - including the Others.

“Isn’t it odd how much fatter a book gets when you’ve read it several times? As if something were left between the pages every time you read it. Feelings, thoughts, sounds, smells…and then, when you look at the book again many years later, you find yourself there, too, a slightly younger self, slightly different, as if the book had preserved you like a pressed flower…both strange and familiar.” - Cornelia Funke, The Inkheart

Pre-A Song of Ice and Fire: Visenya Targaryen
“The oldest of the three heads of the dragon, Visenya was to outlive both of her siblings, and it was rumored that in her later years, when she could no longer wield a sword, she delved into the dark arts, mixing poisons and casting malign spells.” - Fire and Blood
