After the death of their mother, Magda, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff are sent off to live with a distant cousin and her husband. Because of the mysterious identity of their father and his so-called "demonic powers," however, these cousins keep the twins locked away in an attic bedroom until they can be deemed safe from demonic influences. Wanda and Pietro, while troubled by this, are certain it won't be for long.

Days turn to months turn to years, though, and the siblings begin to cling to each other in ways that they know are dangerous and wrong. But at the same time, they're the only people in the world they know they can rely on. And one day, their mysterious father and the strange abilities they find they've inherited from him come back at the worst possible time. Will they forget their closeness during the time in the attic? Or will they hold on tight, unable to let go of what they truly mean to one another?
