I genuinely think the idea that if you should draw a little every day or you'll suffer skill degradation is a total fabrication. Some of the best art I've ever drawn has been coming back from long breaks. I'm talking like weeks. Sometimes you just gotta reset and flush the systems. There's no shame in it. Take breaks. The art will be there for you when you're ready.

One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of people will unpack their unconscious biases only related to the groups they are apart of and just refuse to do the same for other groups. i just saw a post on reddit titled "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" and it was about OP clicking off a fic because they don't like the direction it's going in. slightly different context but can we all be more like this reddit OP. i think "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" should be the new "don't like don't read." dead doves may give you diarrhea but don't make that everyone else's problem.

Are some fandom tropes and habits annoying? Yeah for sure they can be. For the Love of Fuck You Need To Not Care About It And Just Do Your Own Thing. You need to resist the urge to find the 'superior ground' or you're gonna make yourself and others miserable

I know it’s been talked about before but I still don’t think it’s been emphasized how *fucked* today’s internet experience is for children. I didn’t know what the word “discourse” was when I was 8, or 10, or even 13. I was too busy playing the nigh-limitless amount of flash games out there on the internet and making sure my neopets were fed. Like I cannot stress enough that if I had free time on the computer, 9 times out of 10 I could go and play a jaunty little game someone had whipped up and put out there for no other reason than that creating games was awesome and easy to do. Or go to some page that existed just to collect memes; you see back then there were more than 4 sites, and you didn’t need accounts to visit them. I didn’t get targeted ads. I wasn’t exposed to any sort of political ideology. I spent a lot of time on the computer but no one site monopolized my time or tried to fucking manipulate me into using it more. The internet was for more than one thing back then, and honestly I don’t think enough people realize how much has been stolen from us.
