To answer your question (while I currently don't have any concrete plans regarding what would ACTUALLY happen when/if they show up) I do agree it would just be. Awful. I'll have to refresh on the AU again, but if I recall correctly the entire rest of the Science Team are all literal and canonical Ai, and Gordon get's trapped inside his own computer? I think? So he would never have had a ResCas, let alone a proper Black Mesa Incident. I imagine if any of the others found out (with maybe the exception of Cicero, Mercy, Streamer, and maybe Freerun), they'd be pissed to not only have proof that a version of their world exists where all of that didn't happen, but also at being forced to meet that version of them? I think it'd get even stranger to compare their worlds and find a whole ton of similarities between specifically Loverboy and Feetman (given that y2kvr is an AU of hlvrai, which in itself is an AU). I don't know that I'm picture Loverboy being a mainstay in the group necessarily, but I think having him pop in as just. a mostly normal guy who is NOT prepared for the apocalypse would be endlessly hilarious.

(Unless he doesn't show up in Act 1 that is :) )

- Before I say anything more, I would 100% like to make sure you know: The wall of text is NOT A PROBLEM!! This has been one of the greatest asks I've ever had sent to me!! The fact that me and my silly little words and ideas inspired you and even made you want to share that with me?? My heart might literally melt!! (again as a side note, I 100% get like. reading a fanfic and immediately feeling even more immersed in a fandom than you did with just the source material. It's like the OG media is the bait that draws us in, but we're caught hook line and sinker when other people who love it just as much basically speak into our hearts, sharing their own thoughts and ideas about that original thing with their own little twists and what not. if that makes sense.) I read your ask when it first got sent, but after so long (and again I'm so sorry about that) I feel like I'm reading it for the first time again. Which means you get live reactions!! To clarify, I'm reading this like, paragraph by paragraph and responding as such. Except for right now, I immediately scrolled down like a sentence in. The clarification of titles has me wondering if you plan to make this a game? Or games plural. A mod maybe? Any of the options (and lets be real, even a fanfic) would be SUPER COOL!! Especially because the universe of Half Life (2 specifically) famously has a lot of Earth's water drained? So an AU with the opposite issue or effect, of flooding? It's so oddly perfect and fitting I'm surprising I haven't heard of it sooner!! If I'm understanding this correctly, your version of Xen, Xyn, which by the way banger name, is a deep, infinite ocean instead of a collection of floating islands? Which means the Black Mesa Incident ended up being an entirely different level of catastrophic that I'd argue was even more hard to survive (and I haven't even read if it invited it's own aliens in yet or not!) I'm guessing then that The Combine are replaced with The Descendant (well. not really a guess if they won the 7 Hour War I suppose) and humanity lives on boats, floating islands that hadn't been connected to the sea floor, oil rigs maybe, stuff like that? The fact that you've left it ambiguous if there's a version of Civil Protection or the Stalkers like we see in HL2 is deeply unsettling (in terms of the ambiance you're setting up for the AU!! It's like if all of HL2 had the horror aspects of Ravenholm, which is a freaking win if you ask me) and makes me wonder if The Descendant in your AU are even a collection of some species like The Combine, or if (given the name) might have a closer relation to the Nihilanth from HL? Potentially meaning it's one singular entity assimilating humanity until it has complete control and it's own safe little world? That would honestly be so cool!! A part of me can't help but wonder if the reason the world flooded in the first place was due to some alien interference or not. The amount of possible theory crafting with even just this comment is bonkers!! (Please know if you give me more info I WILL keep going with these guesses. This AU is genuinely so cool and I cannot believe I had any part in inspiring it (even if in this context that just means like. making you feel the urge to create something. this is still SO COOL to me)) The depths of the ocean are already so fucking terrifying, and you could definitely pull out some absolutely insane stuff in this AU. Genuinely, I hope to see what comes out of this, even if it's just more cool ideas!! (although if there's a fanfic or a mod or something you should totally point me to it. i WILL eat that right up thank you) (also do NOT worry about a long ass message. I think I have you beat here anyhow. I am in fact fluent in Yappanese. Is that joke dead yet?)

One last Uno Reverse Card to you, because actually I'm thanking YOU (and Sapph is too. They're not currently here to reply but I can and will bully them to) for not only the huge ask (which again, I love) but for all your kind words about the fic, your reassurances to take my time, and most important of all in my opinion, THIS SICK ASS AU?? ((FINAL FINAL NOTE I SWEAR. unless you're counting the tags but please don't-- I would absolutely LOVE to include this AU in the fic somehow, if you're fine with that. You have genuinely such an awesome idea and I hope you do as much as you can (and want) with it!!))

As someone who's watched almost all of the guys in the fic itself, I NEED to say how excited and impressed and ecstatic it's made me to pick up on habits!! I adore how Martini and Streamer understand each other's nonsense because they come from the same/similar time (with HLVRAI being a streamed VR series as well). Seeing Zyzx's version from Lythero's vid also made me unreasonably happy because I've watched that thing way too many times and love how chaotic it gets.

Similarly I adore the overprotective and calculating nature of Mercy, in line with how Saintjam went so far to keep all the NPCs alive! He's a great breath of fresh air and might be my favourite just cause of how stone-cold a badass he is, yet happens to be the most considerate towards safety and sacrifice. (Also really loved the scene with 8 choppers where I immediately recognized the grenade hops he used to take one down). Super hype for the future chapters, especially when other characters start to make their appearances. I saw you've been struggling though and have to stress that there's no rush! Take your time. The project is a labour of love, a passion project. Those thrive when you're gentle and kind to yourself :] I hope that it gets better though, and I understand the pressure with so many people enjoying your work. - In a different vein I'd like to thank you and the fic very much. I've had an AU of my own brewing for the months I've ended up in the HL rot. Your fic suuuper got me thinking about it even more! Only, things take a horrible turn for the worse when the exact opposite happens, opening to Xyn. An infinite, pitch black abyssal void. Flooding all of Black Mesa in the process...

The Descendant quickly stole the world in the 7 hour war, an alien race living in compact, deep-sea cities where humanity can't reach them. Day by day humans are stolen away to the darkest reaches of the sea, hopeless to escape the enemy's clutches. Who knows what happens to them down there.

Cool diving suits and scary, aquatic horrors!! There's a lot more to it but. Yeahg. This is a longggg message alreadyfgjdfhg... -

Hello !! First of all, thank you so much!! I know I say it a bunch but I really mean it every single time!! Hearing that people like it always makes me feel even better about continuing to write it!! (Also binging a fic in just a few days. Very relatable I fear.) I'm so glad other people who've watched just as much (if not more, perhaps) of these silly guys as I have loves what I've done with them!! I've been terrified from the start at characterizing any of them in a way that's just too different for anyone else to get behind. To know that you know all of them prior to this and love them all the same really means a lot!! (also YES!! its so fun treading the line between making them the same person and just. absolutely not. also playing off of the unique differences and similarities each of them have with one another is a real treat! I'm glad it's as fun to read for you as it is for me to write!!) Mercy is definitely like, top three favorites for me! He's very different to write from the rest and I can't wait to showcase that more in later chapters, especially now that we're finally reaching a point where these guys can just flourish and be themselves, show off their personalities without the interruption of fighting and action. I know for me personally, the dynamics between them and their relationships are what I care most about and what I want to focus on in my writing!! (Can you tell Found Family is my all time favorite trope?) ((Also additional extra note. I LOVE playing with the bounds of their reality, pushing it occasionally for both comedic and lore-related purposes >:) )) I cannot WAIT for the time when I have everyone properly include in the story and finally getting screen time. Genuinely I love all of these guys so much, even if they give me a ton of stress at times in terms of. just writing them. I also genuinely appreciate not only your being understanding, but also like. your reassurances? To actually answer your question, in as vague terms as possible so as to not spoil: There will in fact be more than just mentions >:) The main 4 (OG, Mind, Martini, and Gorgeous) will get AT LEAST ONE silly from their universe each to play a much more major role than just being like, a background easter egg mentioned to get you guys excited. I am a big fan of stories with huge casts and I feel like this will either shine through very well for this fic or just make the plot get progressively more confusing, but I'm having fun and hopefully you're having fun so who cares honestly?
