Obviously you have to start somewhere when learning a language but its so annoying how much beginner-intermediate japanese stuff relies on specific rules that are immediately broken the second you actually read or watch something for native JP speakers - its like how In English they always say I before E except after C but thats not remotely true actually in the language. I feel it ends up confusing people more than helping because when I got to the point where I was learning more from native materials over lesson books, I thought I was stupid or something but no, my american-made book taught me that まで is something that mostly is used for following から in sentence formatting, which just ISN’T true, like read any basic native sentence and it’s just not the truth:

彼は正午まで来なかった。

He did not come till noon.

Where’s the から hm? What about here?

彼は七十歳まで生きた。

He lived to be seventy years old.

It’s definitely a sentence structure that exists! Don’t get me wrong

学校がっこうから家いえまで歩あるきます。

I will walk from school to home.

But to state that that’s what まで ‘s use is mostly for is just… wrong and can frustrate people who want to practice reading basic materials (even children’s books!) and see the rule they were taught isn’t actually the way it was said. It’d be so much better to just teach まで as a particle to emphasize “until” or “as far as/by” and give a variety of simple sentences would help so much more then focusing it on a rule you might not see it connected to! 😭 Maybe even separate a lesson to be for specifically the sentence structure of (から…まで…)(from…to…) to teach that specific phrasing but to put まで entirely under it is simplifying something in a way you really can’t.
