waking up early in the morning actually feeling rested and rejuvenated. a rare occurrence, but when it happens..... whoa ☺️

the way my husband's eyes look when the sunlight hits them at just the right angle. he's got a kind of heterochromia where the insides of his irises are a different colour from his outer irises, and i could gaze at them all day long.

going up north every year for labour day weekend to a place so remote there's legit no 911 access. like i'm well aware i'm taking my life in my own hands every time we go up to camp, but also the water on that lake is so clean you can still drink from it. the fish aren't afraid of you. like i just slap on a pair of goggles and stick my head underwater and come face to face with a puzzled-looking perch who doesn't even have the instinct to swim away from me. chipmunks come hopping up to me to try to steal my breakfast. listening to the loons call. actual heaven.

Xiyao having a genuinely good and, yes, healthy (especially by the standards of the narrative they are in) relationship and still coming to grief are not mutually exclusive. They are doomed by external forces and the narrative as it stands provides them with no way out.
