I bet very few people know about this, but remember Frozen. In the beginning, the king reads a book to try & find a way to cure Anna. Well, according to a YouTube video I saw where someone translated the futhark runes in the book, a stone fell from the moon & hit a king in the head, granting him powers. That this is where Elsa's powers originated from. That it mixed the moon's power into the king's blood & trying to remove it would be like trying to filter paint from water. That Elsa came out that way because she had the perfect genetic sequence for those powers to latch onto.
My thoughts are, what if the Sundrop & Moonstone Opal did something similar with Rapunzel & Eugene's ancestors.
The way it was introduced in the movie, Rapunzel's mother drank the Sundrop Flower when she was at the point in her pregnancy when hair begins to develop & that's why Rapunzel's powers are bound to her hair. So, in this instance, instead of being just bound to Rapunzel's hair, it was in her very blood.
At the same time, because of this, instead of Ariana drinking the Sundrop, Rapunzel simply heals her herself from the inside & no one understands what happened.
Gothel, instead of using the Sundrop Flower & Healing Incantation, uses more witchy ways to keep herself young. Mainly the sacrificing of children. She ends up having a daughter with Hector of the Brotherhood & names her Cassandra, planning to use her as her next sacrifice should her plan to kidnap the newborn princess of Carona not pan out like she hopes.
Because the Dark Kingdom doesn't have to guard the Moonstone & it is instead in their blood, their civilization is much more prosperous. The king who contracted the power of the moon, built the kingdom using the black rocks as the foundation & created tunnels beneath the earth to channel lava all over the kingdom, making the earth fertile with nutrients. The Brotherhood's goal in this is to guard the secret of the king's bloodline should such powers resurface in their lineage.
Hector, being a fanatic, tries to kidnap Prince Horace in some twisted belief that he can protect him, but is nearly caught & has to leave the baby somewhere. The infant is found & taken to an orphanage where he's raised as Eugene Fitzherbert & later becomes Flynn Ryder. The only difference being that he has midnight black hair & blue eyes. The only power that he knows about is the fact that his body is practically indestructible so this makes him more reckless than in canon.
Rapunzel has healing powers, but also a form of chlorokinesis that she doesn't learn about until later. Her powers don't leave her when her hair is cut. However, Gothel thinks that it does because of how her hair changed after being cut. Therefore, so too does Rapunzel think this & therefore Eugene.
At some point, Eugene learns that he can be hurt by black rock blades. It's like how only other diamonds can scratch other diamonds. Only Eugene's hair is immune & sorta works as a helmet. Gothel uses one on Eugene, so the scene is the same.
The hair-cutting scene is also the same. As well as the tear scene. But, instead Gothel doesn't die as a result of Rapunzel's hair being cut like in the movie because her powers are still there. Instead, she's killed when Eugene suddenly discovers that he can decay things with his touch when he wants to. He gets so angry at Gothel for how she treats Rapunzel that he wishes more than anything that she'd die, then he notices that his gloves are dissolving & uses his touch to kill Gothel when she gets close to try & take Rapunzel away.
This has the effect of traumatizing both Rapunzel & Eugene for different reasons.
The story continues, but with the added side-story of Eugene slowly discovering his own powers of controling the black rocks & learning to control the effects of his decay touch. Has to wear enchanted gloves like Elsa for a while before he gets it under complete control.
For the most part, Rapunzel can heal people & Eugene can decay things, with their hands, but only to an extent. For major things like reviving people from the dead or reversing age or decaying the giant tree, they require the Incantations.
I'm not sure what could cause Rapunzel & Eugene to leave for the Dark Kingdom in this, but maybe they want to learn more about their powers & it eventually leads there.
Zhan Tiri uses Cass against both to try & use a spell that she created that's supposed to separate the Sundrop & Moonstone from their individual avatars.
Because of the change in the story, Cass either doesn't get Moonstone powers & has to go about things more strategically. Or she uses the spell Zhan Tiri gave her on Eugene, but it only gives her half the Moonstone's power & the goal is to find out how to make the spell complete & take both the rest of Eugene's power & all of Rapunzel's.
That, or the spell seemingly gives her all of Eugene's powers & he has to learn to adjust to not being nearly indestructible anymore. At the same time, as the story progesses, the characters learn that it couldn't take everything from him because the Moonstone's energy is in his very blood. That if he puts his mind to it when Cass is near, he can even start reabsorbing the power that Cass took from him whether she took almost all or just half because, it's his birthright.
As a result, Cass has to avoid Eugene at all costs.

Do you think that a Cinderella morden AU could only work if child services in her town sucks? lol
Well, yes XD
In France, in a huge mansion, there lived a happily married couple who, after many failed attempts, were expecting a child.
A few months, the couple's daughter was born, who they named Cinderella.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Cinderella's mother passed away when she was only 3 weeks old...
Her father was absolutely devastated at his wife's passing, but tried to be strong for his infant daughter.
Wanting his daughter to still have a mother in her life, the man married a woman named Lady Tremaine, who already had two daughters from a previous marriage.
But everything went downhill when Cinderella's father suddenly passed away, leaving his 6 year old daughter with her stepmother and stepsisters.
Little Cinderella cried at her father's deathbed, while Lady Tremaine glared at the girl…
And even worse, the court granted Lady Tremaine custody of the girl. Cinderella’s paternal grandmother fought hard to prevent that, and tried with all her might to get custody of Cinderella instead, but that witch won…
After that unfortunately day, Cinderella was treated extremely badly overnight, as if her stepmother suddenly switched. She wasn't allowed to eat at the table with her stepmother and stepsisters. She had to do all the chores, cooking, doing laundry and taking out the trash. She even had to feed and clean after her stepfamily's housecoat, Lucifer, who really seemed to hate her. All while Anastasia and Drizella used her as a scapegoat, made fun of her and put her down every chance they got. She wasn’t even allowed to see her grandmother. It was awful...
Cinderella and her grandmother called CPS multiple times, but they never showed up, let alone payed a visit. They just brushed everything off, claiming that Cinderella made it all up or that her grandmother just had dementia…
Out of spite, Lady Tremaine enrolled her stepdaughter in a private school, which was the same one Anastasia and Drizella were going to. Despite that, Tremaine forced her stepdaughter to wear the same dirty and stinking clothes she wore at home. Obviously, Cinderella got bullied by her peers because of this, especially by her stepsisters. Most boys would make fun of her too, saying that no one would want to date her. It was horrible…
But despite all that, Cinderella stayed positive, focusing on all the good things she had in her life. She had dreams, wanting to be a social worker for children when she grew up. She had her dog Bruno, two mice that she named Jaq and Gus, her only friend who she saw at school named Aurora, and a few photos of her parents and a dress that was her mother’s. It was all she had.
Than one day, when Cinderella was 19, prom was finally announced.
The girl was so excited. This would be her first party, her first school dance!
Cinderella instantly decided that she wanted to wear the only dress she had, her mother’s dress. She would look good in it!
Of course, Lady Tremaine didn’t want her stepdaughter to go. That girl was only good for cleaning and doing chores, nothing more. Besides, she didn’t want her daughters be potentially overshadowed.
So, Lady Tremaine decided to do something about it.
Right before Anastasia, Drizella and Cinderella went to prom. The three girls were already dressed in their gowns when Lady Tremaine entered the room. She praised her two daughters, complimenting their dresses, but then turned to Cinderella with a glare.
"Isn't that Drizella's bracelet you're wearing?" The woman asked sternly, with a hint of disgust in her tone.
Drizella saw it as well, and snatched it off of her stepsister.
"And that's my neckless!" Anastasia yells, tearing it off of as well.
It quickly escalated into both sisters ripping Cinderella's dress to shreds, leaving her to wear a pile of rags...
Anastasia and Drizella went to their own prom, and Lady Tremaine went to meet up with some friends of hers, leaving Cinderella all alone with her despair...
She cried in her room, wallowing in her own sorrow feeling. Bruno, Jaq and Gus tried to comfort her, but it didn't help...
Cinderella stayed in her room for awhile, until her grandmother came by for an unexpected visit.
She quickly saw that her granddaughter had been crying, and immediately asked her what was wrong.
Cinderella told her grandmother everything. That her stepsisters have ripped her dress to shreds, the dress that once belonged to her mother….
Hearing this, Cindy’s grandmother was furious, but quickly found a solution. She took Cinderella to her house, and showed her granddaughter a gorgeous blue dress, a dress the old woman had worn once. And now she wanted Cinderella to wear it.
Cinderella couldn’t be happier. She hugged her grandmother, before going to the guest room to change into her dress.
Once she was done and came out wearing the dress, Cinderella looked absolutely stunning…
“Make those spoiled girls watch you outshine them, mon trésor.” The woman told her granddaughter.
With those words in mind, Cinderella went to prom, simply wanting to have fun.
When she arrived, everyone was doing there own thing. Anastasia and Drizella were trying to impress some boys, Aurora was standing near a wall talking to Phillip, and the rest didn’t notice her.
“You look amazing!” Aurora said to her best friend once she saw her. Cinderella couldn’t help but feel a bit flattered.
But what she didn’t know what that she just caught the attention of the most populair boy in school. Everyone called him Charming, which spoke for itself.
Charming sometimes saw Cinderella in the hallways. She seemed nice, though he wondered why she always wore rags…
But that didn’t matter to him. He approached Cinderella, and asked her what her name was, since he had seen her before.
Cindy answered, giving her name.
Seeing their friend and Charming start a conversation, Aurora and Phillip quickly went somewhere else, wishing Cindy good luck :)
In the end, Cinderella and Charming talked for pretty much the whole night, even dancing a bit. It was then that Anastasia and Drizella finally noticed their stepsister, and they were furious…
Obviously, the two sisters told their mother that Cinderella attended prom, and the girl was punished for it…
But that didn’t stop Cindy from seeing Charming, and starting a relationship with him! :D
Shortly afterwards, Cinderella moved in with her grandmother despite the custody agreement. She was 19, after all!
In the end, Cinderella felt happier than ever. She had a loving grandmother who took care of her, an amazing best friend, three great pets, and her beloved boyfriend! Things were finally looking up for her!

I want to make people see how much has been taken away from them.
Did you know that there are dozens of species of fireflies, and some of them light up with a blue glow? Did you know about the moths? There are thousands of them, bright pink and raspberry orange and checkerboard and emerald. They are called things like Black-Etched Prominent, Purple Fairy, Pink-Legged Tiger, Small Mossy Glyph and Black-Bordered Lemon.
Did you know that there are moths that feed on lichens? Did you know about the blue and green bees? The rainbow-colored dogbane beetles? Your streams are supposed to teem with newts, salamanders, crawdads, frogs, and fishes. I want to take you by the hand and show you an animal you've never seen before, and say, "This exists! It's real! It's alive!"
There are secret wildflowers that no website will show you and that no list entitled "native species to attract butterflies!" will name. Every day I'm at work I see a new plant I didn't know existed.
The purple coneflowers and prairie blazing star are a tidepool, a puddle, and there is an ocean out there. There are wildflowers that only grow in a few specific counties in a single state in the United States, there are plants that are evolved specifically to live underneath the drip line of a dolomite cliff or on the border of a glade of exposed limestone bedrock. Did you know that different species of moss grow on the sides of a boulder vs. on top of it?
There are obscure trees you might have never seen—Sourwood, Yellowwood, Overcup Oak, Ninebark, Mountain Stewartia, Striped Maple, American Hophornbeam, Rusty Blackhaw, Kentucky Coffeetree. There are edible fruits you've never even heard of.
And it is so scary and sad that so many people live and work in environments where most of these wondrous living things have been locally extirpated.
There are vast tracts of suburb and town and city and barren pasture where a person could plausibly never learn of the existence of the vast majority of their native plants and animals, where a person might never imagine just how many there are, because they've only ever been exposed to the tiny handful of living things that can survive in a suburb and they have no reason to extrapolate that there are ten thousand more that no one is talking about.
It's like being a fish that has lived its whole life in a bucket, with no way of imagining the ocean. The insects in your field guide are a fraction of those that exist, of all the native plants to your area only a handful can be bought in a nursery.
Welcome to the Earth! It's beautiful! It's full of life! More things are real and beautiful and alive than a single person could imagine!!!

On the recent discussion by @bestworstcase on the nature of the corrupting influence of the Moonstone compared to the Sundrop, and the issues with why one might corrupt but the other would not...can we consider for a moment the possibility that perhaps it might have?
See, Rapunzel was born with the Sundrop. It changed her fundamental physiology as she was coming out of the womb. But she did not, to my mind, possess the Sundrop in the same way Cassandra possessed the Moonstone. Oh, it was within her, yes, but it had time to reform into something new. It could change. It could adapt. It could settle down.
Whereas Cassandra couldn’t become the Moonstone. She applied it long after her birth or even adolescence, and she didn’t consume it—it was still clearly visible on her skin. There was no harmony there, just an ancient entity battling for dominance against whatever inherited magic Cassandra got from Gothel—and quite possibly winning, more often than not. Feeding her terrible pain and wonderful power at the same time, clouding the mind.
You know who else might have turned out that way?
Tumblr media
This lady. Right here.
Rapunzel could remove the Sundrop from Arianna (and I’m not sure, given her apparent agelessness, that it was a complete removal), but what if Rapunzel had already been born? Or didn’t exist yet? Then you’d have a great cosmic power that instead of fighting for dominance against a half-witch with stamina like nobody’s business, would be easily in control of a woman currently rather sick and weak and with no magical training at all.
Instead of the golden-haired child, we might have had a woman with hair shone like the sun at all times and whose eyes glowed amber. A woman whose strength now lies in immortality, maintenance of everything just the way she wants it to be. What once was hers—and everything is hers. She is ruler of the land, and she will suffer no fools. All shall be healed and hale and happy—they will have no choice. All shall know of her compassion—all shall feel second-rate compared to her kindness, and even love of family and friend shall feel petty and second-rate before the pulse of her love. Just as the Moonstone feeds on anger and fear—emotions that keep you alive—so the Sundrop feeds on happiness and joy—abundance of life. And the Flower that she bears within her golden blood will permit her to reign forever.
Instead of the darkness, we would have a Queen.
(Frankly, folks, I think everyone in Corona had one heck of a narrow escape.)

Still annoyed that TTS had little to none interest with Queen Arianna
This woman almost dies right before childbirth and then her infant daughter is kidnapped a few months later and remains missing for the next 18 years
Arianna finally gets reunited with Rapunzel but there’s also this trauma of her being kidnapped and also Arianna literally missing out raising her daughter and missing all those growing up milestones
Rapunzel is finally reunited with her actual mother but then she has so much baggage and trauma of what a mother should be and act like because Gothel being Gothel
Just… HOW was this not a little story arc between these two

no because i literally think about that every day
the way you can read Cassandra’s entire arc through the different ways she addresses Rapunzel at any given point in time though
like
she starts out addressing Rapunzel with her formal title during the Early Days of their friendship (forgive me, your highness) until Rapunzel asks her to call her Rapunzel
and even after that she still occasionally uses princess as a form of address when they’re out in public (princess, the time!)
but that peters out almost immediately into her exclusively using her own affectionate nickname for Rapunzel which continues throughout S1 and S2 (Raps, please, let go)
which makes that terrible moment in S2 where Rapunzel pulls rank and Cass bites her tongue and mutters yes, your highness just…OOF
and then we have S3 when she’s in full-on villainess mode and makes a point of using Eugene’s pet name for Rapunzel but in the most magnificently sarcastic fake-sweet tone (blondie can think for herself hmmmm) like my gosh what an absolute power move and gut punch all at the same time
and THEN in the finale after she’s reconciled with Rapunzel she uses blondie again but this time it’s with absolute sincerity and the most gentle, teasing, blatantly flirtatious tone of voice you can possibly imagine
and then in her very last line in the entire series when she’s saying farewell to Rapunzel, possibly forever, we come full circle back to her original nickname and it’s bittersweet and beautiful and sad and perfect because
what started out as forgive me, your highness
has come all the way to I love you, Raps
