But here we see that Komaeda envies, or more like puts on a pedestal, the fact tha Hinata can see things so "straightforwardly" (aka seeing death as a unique and avoidable misfortune, so of course he'll do his best to keep everyone alive right now). And i suppose by remarking that, Komaeda knows this too. Granted (at least in the translation because im not sure if it was changed from the japanese), the praise Komaeda gives here is generic enough for it to easily be replaced by him throwing out a few "Ultimate" this and that later in the game, or musing about hope in the face of such adversity- but i definitely think this could also be rephrased slighlty differently. "Of course you can face Monokuma and this tragedy on your own with your hope, you're an Ultimate." Aka "not like me", "worthy and capable enough to not have to worry about other factors than that of your own pure abilities", "at least you think you might achieve something in this situation alive" etc.

Despite everything else, i think this is the main difference between them. Not just Komaeda being absolutist, but the way that "living" is inherently tied with negativity. He knows that he will die anyway, so in that death he wants to do the best he can, he aims to justify the fact external forces have chosen him to die, because otherwise he wouldn't have commited an action that aims to do good. On the other hand, even though Hajime has the desire for everyone to be alive... he takes it for granted. He at least has the priviledge of seeing death as an out of the ordinary misfortune, especially in this situation. He didn't have to grapple with the fact that each day might be his last in a way where it alters his worldview to factor it in. Him joining the experiment can be seen as an extension of this: his life has been so "ordinary", that the only thing he sees as breaking him free of that life can be positive, can be better, can only lift him up. Some people would definitely takes his interaction as "haha, crazy Komaeda versus level headed Hinata", but Hinata's own 'matter-of-factness' is informed by his own imperfect experiences the same way Komaeda's worldview is.

honestly, a stretched out monokuma wouldn't be that different, it would be monokuma but more cylindrical, or spread out like a pool noodle. which would be more funny than anything considering his cartoony appereance. Though i guess that's the intended implication, just to make komaeda's reaction more over the top lol
