International Asexuality Day (Director's Cut)

Well, better late than never.

We have a confession to make. The worldwide celebration of International Asexuality Day was April 6, 2023. The observant among you will notice that today is, in fact, April 7, 2023—one day off the mark. We hold our hands up here: we f*cked up. In any case, there's no time like the present, so we are going right on ahead with a one-day-late extravaganza here on Tumblr to celebrate the wonderful #asexual world, and pay our own little tribute to asexuality of all stripes under its umbrella, including demisexual, grey-asexual, and other ace identities. The glass-half-full among you will simply view it as a 24-hour bonus round which stretches IAD to an indulgent 48 hours of commemoration. This one is for you—if you will accept our apologies.

For now, however as we mark the day's events (the next day, admittedly) on Tumblr, the community continues to do what it does best: by providing us all with an all-hues-of-purple celebration of all things ace with thoughtfulness and humor. See for yourself over at #asexual.

happy ace day friendly reminder to the lgbt community that "asexuality doesn't exist, you should just get game and then you will realize you are just confused" is the exact same as "you are not really gay, you just need to meet x and you will realize you are just confused" no this is not up for debate. you don't get to decide what i do with my sex life just as much as no one gets to decide yours. If you are a part of the LGBT and you say shit like that, then you are not a real ally, you are a hypocrite. thank you.

I'm Del, a trans/NB ace creator. I write and illustrate cartoons with some more mature themes, which include ace characters.

Art, one of the main characters in my series California Magic, is asexual. He's married to his ace partner and they have a very cute and fulfilling relationship! As a nod to the community, I frequently draw Art wearing colors of the ace flag.

Being asexual is terrifying. For the longest time, you feel wrong. Everyone else has crushes and eventually talks about intimacy, but you don't feel that. It doesn't help that you have no reference for how you feel. You are surrounded by the expectation that you will eventually become intimate with someone else.

Learning that there is a word, a flag, a entire community of people just like you? It's liberating.

I wish a happy Ace Day to everyone.
