9-37 (the final page of the chapter)

Well. I’ve thought about this a lot over the past day or so. But long story short, I am going to be ending this comic. It breaks my heart to do so, but the facts of the matter are...

1) My motivation and time set aside for this has plummeted. I tried to push through, and could keep up for a while, but the full truth is it was feeling a bit like a chore, week to week. This page above has been sitting unfinished for months, just a sad sketch with a frame. The story I have planned would have taken much longer. Which leads to my second fact.

2) things are just changing and coming out too much. While I still love a lot of the individuals at AH/RT, this comic was sort of a celebration of... everything that goes into it. So with many people leaving and reporting horrible experiences, it’s become almost shameful to continue this little celebration, since it includes a lot of the company... Yeah. Anyway.

For those who are interested, I am including my notes for this comic, so you can kind of see where it was heading. The notes don’t necessarily go that far ahead (there were things I was going to plan when I got closer to it, e.g.) and some old art and notes that aren’t necessarily applicable anymore. But I’d hate to leave you guys with an unsatisfactory Nothing! I had twists planned and I am bummed i couldn’t make them come to life and see all of your reactions.

In the end, I love you guys so so much. You have all been so good to me, even when I stopped producing as much, and your support has meant SO much to me over the past few years. Please never stop being kind and supportive of each other. I’ll still be in the community, at least for the time being (as i said, I still love a lot of the individuals). But I can’t monetarily support them anymore, and this comic feels wrong to continue.

Once again, I’m sorry I couldn’t see this all through. This has been such a wonderful experience and a great learning opportunity for art/comic making, and I will remember it fondly.

An Update

I’ve thought about it a little bit more and I’m adjusting my approach.

The comic will remain on hiatus for the time being. I will finish out the chapter, write Ryan out, and then there will be basically a recap chapter. Sort of like what anime do partway through a season or show sometimes. 

The goal of this recap chapter is to most easily rework and restructure integral parts of the story whilst also giving new readers (and old readers too, i suppose) a way to start this comic without ever reading the parts with Ryan in it if they don’t want to. It may read a little differently from the normal pages, so that part will be fun!

Normally I draw this comic week to week (not recommended I know! but shh) but this recap will require a lot more planning, so i’ll remain on hiatus until it’s at least mostly ready to go up. Once it’s up, I’ll be able to set the beginning of the recap as “The first page” for when you’ll looking at it from a browser window. And then, we proceed on as normal! Hopefully...

This Comic and Ryan Haywood

I’m sure by now you’ve heard the news. If you haven’t, you just gotta take a quick glance at Twitter. 

To start things off, I don’t think I will end this comic due to his actions. My decision may change later, but I need more time to think on this and work behind the scenes. As of right now, my decision is not to end, but to go on hiatus for at least a short while. 

Regardless of your opinions on Ryan Haywood at this moment in time, I’ve decided it is too much of a mess to continue this comic as it was, as though he merely quit like Ray did. Not with all the stress and anxiety he’s caused over the past couple days. (and as a side note, I also don’t need to hear your opinions on Ryan. I don’t want you to come to my comic or the comic’s sideblog and call him scum or defend him or say anything other than value neutral statements.)

It is my current decision to attempt to write Ryan out of this comic. Ryan’s character here was an integral part of the story, just as the other main characters are. That’s no secret. So I’m going on hiatus to try and rework the story you haven’t seen yet, and to figure out how he will make his exit. I may not have dropped THAT much foreshadowing, but I’ve dropped some, and I need to figure out how to rework these threads into something new. And I need to figure out how to smoothly make him leave in a way that makes sense. I know it is possible, as TV writers (for example) do it all the time when actors quit or die. 

Before you wonder, his exit will not be vindictive, he will not suddenly turn evil, he will not be “killed.” He will simply leave. As such, he may still appear in a couple future pages as I make this transition. I will make it as few pages as possible.

I will keep you updated if this plan ever changes. As of right now, I feel somewhat confident in this current decision, but I suppose anything can happen in the coming days.
