1.5.1 Time and Motion/Change聽
Produce a work that explores time, motion and change.聽
Materials used:
Plywood
Masking Tape
Having missed the original workshop, and with the due date rapidly approaching, I participated in a supplementary catch-up workshop wherein I worked on a piece that would interact with its environment in an interesting way, while making novel use of site, in anticipation of my Independent Project. With images in my mind of pendulums, tightropes and hammocks, I suspended a large piece of plywood along a sparse web of masking tape, between two palm trees. I was interested to see how the flimsy tape would fare under the weight of the wood. I was inspired by Michael Heizer鈥檚 Levitated Mass, as displayed in the LACMA.聽

I really like the idea of the heavy supporting the light - of an object being supported in the air by something flimsy and unstable.聽
I was pleased with how the piece interacted with the harsh winds in the space - please see video.
