"Oh thank god you found him! We've been looking every-why is he naked?" I paused at the sight of Hyde, extremely disgruntled and completely nude as he hung from Adam Frankenstein's outstretched arms. Which, I noted, were covered in bites and scratches.
Adam gave an embarrassed cough, "He….uh, he was in the middle of…"
"Fucking," Hyde spat, "I was in the middle of FUCKING," he grinned, enjoying the way both I and The Creature cringed at his crudeness. "You ought to try it sometime, Harker. It'd do you good to get laid every now and then."
"You couldn't have grabbed some trousers or something?"
"Your giant snatched me mid-coitus. It gave my lady friend quite the fright. The poor thing fainted on the spot," Hyde snickered unpleasantly, "You two better reimburse me, I spent good money for an hour of her time," despite his almost affable tone I knew he wasn't joking and, as best as he was able while dangling in the air with his arms pinned to his sides, he aimed a kick at me, which I narrowly dodged.
Adam gave Hyde a warning squeeze and me a long-suffering look, "You cautioned me that he would be difficult, yet I still feel as if I was not adequately prepared. You should be forewarned, Quincey Harker, I have just learned several colorful additions to my vocabulary and if you ever send me out to fetch him for you again I will be using all of them on you."

As much as the execution sucks balls, the concept of The Glass Scientists is hilarious. A man called Dr. Henry Jekyll embarks on a personal quest to clean up the reputation of mad scientists as a collective and convince polite society that mad scientists are totally normal, friendly, cool scientists with helpful goals and very ethical methods, actually. From the goodness of his heart and absolutely not because he’s the biggest freak mad scientist of the land. No ulterior motives whatsoever. Don’t Worry About It.

Okay, so: in early drafts of Jules Verne's 1870 novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Captain Nemo is a Polish guy bent on revenge against the Russian Empire for the murder of his family in the January Uprising. Verne's editor objected on the grounds that Russia was a French ally at the time of the book's writing, and in the actual, published version of the story, Nemo's national origin and precisely which empire he's pissed off at are left unspecified.
Later, in the 1875 quasi-sequel The Mysterious Island, Nemo is retconned as an Indian noble out for revenge against the British for the murder of his family in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 – basically the same as the original plan, simply substituting a different uprising and a different empire. Verne's editor raised no objections this time around, because fuck the British, right? Though Twenty Thousand Leagues and The Mysterious Island aren't 100% compatible in their respective timelines, this version of Nemo has customarily been back-ported into adaptations of Twenty Thousand Leagues ever since.
Now here's the funny part: perhaps as a jab at his editor, Verne made a specific plot point in Twenty Thousand Leagues of Professor Aronnax repeatedly trying and failing to figure out where the fuck Nemo is from. At one point his attempt to pin down Nemo's accent is frustrated by Nemo's vast multilingualism. At another point, he tries and fails to trick Nemo by quizzing him about latitude and longitude.
(To contextualise that last bit, at the time the book was written, there was no international agreement on which line of longitude should be zero degrees, and many nations had their own prime meridians; Aronnax hoped to identify Nemo's national origin by calculating which meridian he was giving his longitudes relative to. Nemo, however, immediately spots the ploy, and announces that he'll use the Paris meridian in deference to the fact that Aronnax is a Frenchman.)
The upshot is that at no point in the course of any of this Sherlock Holmes bullshit does Aronnax ever bring up the colour of Nemo's skin as a potential clue. In light of the book's publication history, this is almost certainly simply because Verne hadn't decided that Nemo was Indian yet. However, taking into account The Mysterious Island's retcon, it retroactively makes Aronnax the least racist Frenchman ever.

Dorian/Hyde is so funny bc imagine you keep hearing the most beautiful person you’ve ever seen gush about his boyfriend and how perfect he is and how he has the best boyfriend ever bc of course he does he has the best everything and you’re so prepared to meet this person he’s hyped up and it’s fucking Edward Hyde
And on the other hand, imagine you meet some guy who makes you physically violent just by looking at him and he’s genuinely the most unpleasant man you’ve ever met in your entire life and when asked about his romantic life, he goes ā€œyeah I got a boyfriend…he’s a bitchā€ then you meet his boyfriend and it’s Dorian Gray, most charismatic person on earth.

I’ve seen the question about Does-Jekyll/Hyde-have-a-healing-factor-when-he-transforms around here and there. I like to think that there isn’t one—the injuries and illnesses transfer. I try not to think about the specifics too hard, but in the cases where a more serious injury can cause severe consequences due to the body warping it, I prefer the thought of that being an actual risk added to transformation. The shifting is already unsafe and unstable, why wouldn’t the external influences be an extra danger as well? God or Satan or somebody out there help him if he ever breaks an arm or something; cuz transforming then would suuuuck. And Hyde would hate having to take it easy to let it heal.

it's interesting, how griffin so easily, though begrudgingly, put his trust into kemp
after all, he's a familiar face, someone who might understand the issues at hand. finally, after being betrayed by that no good marvel; being chased out by those damn idiots at the inn. if i'm correct, i believe when he comes face to face with kemp it's the first time he tells anyone his name and who he is —
— meaning he believed he could actually trust kemp to aid him in his quest
of course he's still got his paranoia, but alas
he makes himself comfortable in some nightclothes and enjoys a nice warm meal for the first time in a while. he drinks and smokes and then sleeps in a bed that night. and then the following morning he decides to tell kemp pretty much everything that has happened to him aside from how to make the formula
things are going well, he's found a visible partner who won't undermine him. someone he can use, someone he can command, and he's glad at that
he even asks kemp if he's told anyone that he's there and kemp says no! why, he insists!
but then, there are footsteps upstairs
griffin hears them, and suddenly everything turns to red
how foolish of him to actually think he could trust anyone. kemp has only confirmed griffin's own suspicions and hatred and it sends him into a frenzy
"traitor!"

ok ok what about Henry defending Gabriel and getting progressively angrier and at some point Gabriel, worried, knowing Henry might engage in stronger words he might regret later, decides to intervene and put a stop to it, so he touches his arm pulling him back a little...
and Henry turns to him with a deranged expression that doesn't fit his face, and he snarls "leave me alone!" in a changed voice that oozes malice, growling like a wild animal. whatever is the case, Gabriel sees how something primal flashes in his eyes, and the hatred that has simmered in Henry for years, no, decades, suddenly becomes evident.
are his teeth sharper? is that an unearthly pallor in his skin? do his fingers end in claws?
and when he sees how Gabriel recoils in a start of... not fear, but wariness, tension, and a little tinge of disgust, he is dejected. Henry relaxes and does an effort to exile the thoughts of bloodshed from his mind, no matter how enticing they are, and splutters a clumsy apology, reaching for Gabriel's hands, but he is already pulling away.
god, how his heart breaks.

Here's the general gist of our gothlit universe so far. (Which is inspired by the overall idea of the league of extraordinary gentlemen but not a re-write. As we've only seen the movie and have no plans on reading the comics)
Essentially it's a universe set in the Victorian era. Humans and other beings (Anything from changelings to spirits) share the earth. Children are warned to never leave the cities, or too look too far into alleyways. Those born in the countryside are to never go into the woods.
Most humans just do their best to never encounter one of the Others. Yet sometimes they're unavoidable or their gifts and deals are sought.
Our main characters are all in various ways indebted and trapped by the crown. And they all seem to have something, different about them.
There's Mina Harker (She/her), forcefully turned to a vampire after the events of Dracula, and who happens to be the teams leader. While recovering from her recent turning and the events that had conspired. Mina ended up going to the crown for help researching a way to permanently cure vampirism. In exchange she'd lead the group.
Adam (they/them), a mess of human corpses brought back to life. Also a mix of a researcher and fighter for the team. And their creator, Victor Frankenstein (He/they). The only fully human member of the team and is the teams medic for any flesh wounds. After their near death experience in the artic they had both found a way to safety on Robert Walton's ship. Creature, having heard of the Others before but being too focused on their revenge. Decided to go searching. Hoping to find acceptance among them. Victor, on the other hand made the decision to stay with Walter until the various aliments he had been suffering from finally did them in. Until the crown ended up hunting down them both. Creature for their strength, Victor for his skills.
J. Griffin, the invisible man (he/him). Another fighter on the team but also works intell. Using his ability to sneak into any important events to relay them to everyone else. After just barely managing to escape the crowd that had trampled him, beating most of his serum out of his blood he had managed to convince one Dr. Kemp that he had simply gone insane due to a malfunction in his serum. Kemp, not believing him but still remembering their times together allowed him to rest up and tended to his wounds. And during that time Griffin manged to re-create his blood bleech. When the crown came knocking on the door requesting Griffin's help, or he would be excuted.
The headless horseman(any pronouns). After haunting a small town for decades, forgetting entirely their own identity. It ended up being captured by bounty hunters who worked for the crown. Being more sentient than other spirits the crown decided to use her as a unkillable solider. Riding their steed into any battle in exchange of a promise that his past would be found. Allowing her to rest. Eventually she was assigned to the team.
And thats all for now! We might add more characters to the main team as time goes on but that's the current lineup.
Also! Some general information about us and this blog.
I'm Everest, (he/she/it) my tag is -🪶) but you should also expect to see Henry (they/he)-🧪)
Other alters might interact on here but I'm not entirely sure so I'm leaving it up to them to introduce themselves. Our system pronouns are he/they/it.
This blog will be mainly about our own gothlit universe but we'll also reblong content onto it!
