Here and There
Walked around centre
Butter Market - did some filming - death throe, uncherished dinosaur -  over 100 years of tradition
Tumblr media
Wednesday market day - street and farmer's market - did some recording
Cathedral - empty - did some recording of the organ being repaired - horrible - another death throe dino 1000 years of tradition. - long lived
Tumblr media
Went to the Old Market Shopping Centre - 'the new shopping venue with something for everyone' with money to burn. The cathedral for those who worship at the altar of rampant consumerism - how long will this last?
Went to Maylords Orchard - the old shopping centre with Poundland and Wilcos, for everyone with very little money. 1980's shopping - short lived
Could make an epic documentary 'old v new' - town planners etc - might be a bit big for this project and not really my style.
Alfred Watkins house - who he? Ley lines - that's who!!!!
Tumblr media
'Ley lines are hypothetical alignments of a number of places of geographical interest, such as ancient monuments and megaliths. Their existence was suggested in 1921 by the amateur archaeologist Alfred Watkins, whose book 'The Old Straight Track' brought the alignments to the attention of the wider public'.

I follow ancient track ways everyday as I drive to Hereford THIS IS MY RESPONSE
I drive from here to Hereford
Exploration of the word: HERE
Tumblr media
Here really seems to mean being present in a place
I travel here every time I come in to college, but when I'm not in college, I'm here at home, or where ever else I might be - here only becomes there when I'm no longer here. Strictly speaking, we don't travel from here to there, we travel from here to here.
Document my journey - not document, respond to my journey.

I want to capture the essence of the journey not a literal recording - the images need to be blurred just enough to still make sense yet not clear enough to identify any particular area.
I also want to communicate a sense of movement - the whole piece is about movement between where I live and Hereford but it could be where anyone lives and it follows routes that date back to the neolithic, Bronze & Iron ages, through to Roman, Norman through to modern times.
Millions of people must have traveled this route over the millennia for so many different reasons and at so many different speeds - can I capture this essence?
I guess with modern traveling conditions and the speed at which we drive, it's still a dangerous thing to do - perhaps in previous times it was dangerous for different reasons - cattle rustlers, sheep stealing etc - maybe even wild animals?

Putting it all together
Edit the video footage
Maybe add the organ?
Maybe add the street sounds?
Add a bit of dislocation by not having the driving sounds?

Update
Got some pretty good footage over the past couple of days, (seeclips) but the cling film falls off the lens a lot and surprisingly the camera actually focuses on it at times.
Will probably blur these shots a little more in Sony Vegas
