Have you got any 00Q fic recs? I kinda feel like reading one, but none of the ones I saved are striking my fancy tonight.

I don’t know if you already read the well known ones, so I tried to include fics of different levels of popularity:

Mélomanie by @dhampir72​ was one of the first I read and it’s just so good. Bond’s characterisation is perfect (if you’re looking for fics that deal with Bond’s retirement this is the author to go).

Mistletoe by the same author is a fun little view into MI6 from a different perspective (and it has idiots in love. what’s not to like about that?).

i’ll give you my jacket, i’ll give you my heart by @andfinallywearehome​ is very short and very sweet and it has amazing fanart.

this city, of how it sings by @frijae​ i read ages ago and i don’t remember exactly what happened in it but the vibe just stuck with me. it’s hard to explain.

Bittersweet by @drgrlfriend​ is beautiful writing paired with beautiful art and if you haven’t read it already you definitely should.

Polonaise No. 6 by @pikachumaniac​ is a figure skating AU with a gloriously snarky Q.

Tombstone by DoraTLG and Only_1_Truth (i couldn’t find their tumblr :/) is a western AU with a cool outlaw Bond and Q doing a full on 180° turnaround from being an unsuspecting shop-owner to taking out criminals like nobody’s business.

Otherwise I would recommend just checking out the popular fics in the fandom because there are a lot of amazing works. This is by no means an exhaustive list.

It goes on like that for months, and then Q realizes that James Bond is “hanging out” at his flat.

the sheer lack of professionalism - this fic KILLED me its hillarious

Q rolled his eyes. “Oh, there are just bloody wheels within wheels to it, aren’t there, this kidnapping business? Really, you should give it up. You’re not cut out for it. Think about it, your first time out, and you pinch a national intelligence treasure and ask his MI6 boyfriend for ransom. It isn’t very promising, is it?”

the merits of emotional education series- this is a two part fic and although i thought bond could be slightly ooc at times ITS PRECIOUS the boys are so oblivious and adorable

In which James Bond is emotionally stunted and actually sucks in social situations while not on a mission. Q is the one stuck putting up with it because everyone seems to think that it’s his job. Also, he and Bond are going steady apparently. But that’s neither here nor there.

Bond says television  gives him a headache, but sometimes Q finds him at it anyway, usually when Q’s been tucked away for the morning in this room of unapologetically bright computer screens. Bond’s eyes are always a little glassy and his hands are always buried knuckle-deep into one of the sofa cushions. Q kisses him to make his mouth soften, at least, and he says, “You don’t have to do that.”

don’t open your eyes just yet - WARNING: GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS OF RAPE + RAPE RECOVERY (but not between bond and q, q is kidnapped. the majority of the fic is tragic and hearbreaking but wonderful)

No, no, the worst part is how Q’s eyes, though bereft of their glasses and marked with tear stains, meet Bond’s. And they are steady and cool as they were when the two first met.

This is long overdue. I am so sorry. Things happened, which are mostly good, fortunately. Anyway, I’ve read a lot of 00Q fanfics again and I think it’s time to do the part 2!

If there is something to be amazed with, that is despite the small number of fanfics of 00Q, this fandom makes it up with the quality of fanfics. You might notice that there is a pattern or a certain trope these fics have. It’s the way I read. Sometimes I’d do a week just full of angst, and a week of soulmates.

00Q AU fic rec

It’s AU Day!

And because there are so many awesome AU stories out there, I thought I would rec a few of them, mind you, some of them will be well known throughout the fandom, but maybe someone will see one they don’t already know, or read a story again? I know I read most of them multiple times, because AUs!

Leading Edge by Batsutousai

A really good modern day fantasy AU. I like the world building and I’m always weak for stories where Bond trusts Q, who just isn’t sure why.

Pen and Paper by Salios

Pen and Paper is just an overall really fluffy AU story about Q being Bonds pen pal while he is in the Navy. Also I wholeheartedly approve of everything with the mention of a penguin in it ;)

Daddy and Uncle James by 1MissMolly

Alternate Universe in which Q has a daugther from a previous relationship. And it just fits? The interaction between the characters is very well written and I love how the trust is build between the three over the course of the story.

Secrets by dhampir72

A beautiful Shapeshifter AU, with Bond having an unusual shift (and can I just say, I love what it is). I adore how Bond is self-conscious about his shift and how Q is just there for him <3

Blast from the Past by CMDAK

Q as an unwilling time traveler from the past, and Bond being the overprotective agent we know he can be if he cares about someone. It’s really funny to have a Q not proficient with computers, but he is a fast learner.

A Home Visit by thevalesofanduin

AU with Q being a computer call centre employee and Bond needing his help. I love their flirting. Also Q and Eve friendship :)

Three’s company by Only_1_Truth

Really there are so many fantastic AUs by Only_1_Truth but I always loved the Three’s company series the most, since it is a university AU and supernatural AU in one! And I love everything about it, how the characters interact, their supernatural gifts, everything just fits and it is a delightful read all around.

Teashop AU that is absolutely adorable. Pining Q, flirting Bond, and tea (or coffee if you are Bond). A very fluffy read.

The Scrawny Wizard and the Intimidating Dragon by Linorien

An awesome fantasy AU. I love how Q and Bonds banter is written, and I mean, Dragon!Bond, what more can you want?

Making An Adjustment, by Sarah_Ellie Words: 14,960 Rating: Explicit For years, Q took special suppressants to disguise himself as a Beta. He thought he could hide his status as an Omega and live a relatively quiet life as the head of Q Branch. Unfortunately, his job at MI6 would prove to be the very thing that ruins everything.

Grace Period Words: 22,609 Rating: Explicit In retrospect, the whole thing was a series of extremely poor decisions on Q’s part, none of which he regretted in the slightest. Or, AU in which IT-techie!Q is chatted up by one James Bond and doesn’t have the heart to tell him that he’s also MI6. (It’s basically structured like a rom-com, all the indulgent domesticity you can think of, Q’s POV)

October skywatching Words: 2,250 Rating: T+ James Bond turned out to be surprisingly bad at long-term casual, and utterly clueless to boot.

A Matter of Convenience Words: 19,533 Rating: Explicit ‘twas why the whole thing had been sanctioned in the first place: minimal disturbance of the status quo, just a blip in their routine, no consequences. So what if the Quartermaster had had an untimely, dangerous heat and 007 had been the one assigned to see him through it. Both of them knew better than to let anything come of it. (Alpha/Omega dynamics) (This one is mostly smut and angst. Remember when UST was a thing? If there was an ‘Unresolved Romantic Issues’ tag, it’d be the one for this baby)

Warnings are added to fics with major concerning aspects, however, be prepared for canon typical violence and sexual content in pretty much every fic– I mean, this is James Bond, he’d manage to get into a knife fight even in a coffee shop AU.

Quriosity by dr_girlfriend

Words: 80495  Chapters: 33/33

Bond finds himself increasingly curious about his enigmatic Quartermaster.

“Your prior hotel is no longer secure, I will direct you to a new location. Your luggage has already been transferred. A field agent and medic from the Diréction Générale de la Sécurité d'État will be waiting at the side entrance. I have cleared them both personally.” In contrast to his crisp dry English, Q’s pronunciation of the French words was fluid and flawless, the throaty tone of the fricatives sending a surprising jolt of awareness straight to Bond’s cock — all the more remarkable given his degree of blood loss.

“You’re wasted on Q-branch, you have the voice for a phone-sex call-in line.” The words slipped out of Bond’s mouth without forethought, although he had plenty of time to think in the sudden pause that came afterward and stretched on for endless moments. Bond hadn’t realized until now how Q was always there, with an immediate reply. In all their banter Q had never before been at a loss for words. Ever.

I reread this fic at least once every few months, it’s that good. I have it saved in the pdfs on my phone for car rides and vacations. This fic stays so true to the characters, with everything from Q’s unceasing exasperation to Bond’s cheeky carelessness. The only bad thing I can say about it, is that it doesn’t follow my “Q is a Holmes brother” headcanon. Honestly, if you haven’t read this fic yet, it’s probably the one you’ve been looking for.

Okay, this was so good, I had to contact the author (@bondsboffin) in the middle of it being written. I was going out of my mind. Bond is so complex and the style is just so intriguing. Honestly, this is the kind of fic that will make you roll on the floor in angst.

Yes, this version of 007 was a terrifyingly smart agent, and M wondered long and often whether it had been a good idea to promote him to the position. Usually, the title was the dangerous part - being 007 meant deadliness - but this time, M feared that a certain man with ice-blue eyes and scruffy blonde hair had dragged in more danger to the title than it had previously possessed

Enter MI6’s new Quartermaster: an unassuming, bespectacled genius with no mind for subterfuge but plenty of genius behind a dry smile. Curious 00-agents and young boffins don’t always mix in predictable ways…

This made me cry the first time I read it. Full of humorous chess games, dangerous double 0’s, and domestic (well, at least as close as possible to anyway) Bond. A wonderful Skyfall rewrite.

“You smell good,” Q’s drunk words were slurred and raspy.

“I’ve been told.” James smiled at the young man.

“Stay here, I want to snuggle.”

“What?”

“Snuggle, be my teddy bear.”

“What!? I could blackmail you for that comment.” James joked but Q was already snoring lightly. His arms still wrapped tight around James neck. The older man gave in, convincing himself it was only because Q wanted him there. James own wishes and desires were not pushing him to lay beside Benjamin. The reason he was here, he told himself over and over again, was to protect the quartermaster. His scent and angelic face had nothing to do with it. At least that what he tried to tell himself.

Bond discovers that his quartermaster is an omega, which would be fine, except someone is murdering the omegas that work for MI6.

Very slow build of coworkers to friends to something more. Working together to fight against the monsters in the dark.

Warning: A/B/O fic. An extremely well done one at that. Despite the summary, Q can hold his own, which was awesome to read. A complex plot and amazing development, overall a great read.

There’s no time to grab anything to defend himself with, because the first hinge on the door snaps open with a bang, and the second follows on the next hit. The door rips backwards, thrown to the floor by the same man Q had been in the ski lift with, who smiles menacingly and draws a knife from his jacket. The Quartermaster wonders how long it will take for James to realise he’s missing.

Before the henchman even gets in his first hit, Q knows it’ll be too late.

Short and sweet, a fix-it fic for Spectre. The best fix-it fic I’ve read at that.

The Love Song of James Bond by Fightyourdragon

“Knowing your history, and adding to it the fact that I am not entirely unaffected by sharing a bed with you, I think it would be pointless to pretend that we are going to able to share this house for the next two weeks without fucking over every available surface.” Q smiles at the look of shock on James’ face. Clearly he hadn’t been expecting such a direct approach and Q presses on before he has a chance to recover. “However, when it happens it will happen on my terms.”

There was definitely a significant gap between the time Bond was breaking down over M’s death in the chapel to the time a confident Bond walked into Mallory’s office to accept his newest assignment. What, or more importantly, who, put him back together again? Basically, lots of porn with plot.

Warning: BDSM. A majority of this fic is two idiots on an island, fucking and making friends with the old couple who own the local pub. It’s the most weirdly domestic thing I’ve ever read, and its beautiful.

It’s not finished yet, I know. But, this fic is so good, I couldn’t put it down. I’m sure I read it in under two nights (that’s with a full time job and full time school). This fic highlights the true discrepancy in age between Bond and Q, and is a whole lot of angst at points, and it’s delightful.
