I background watched ally mcbeal for the first time and I'm 2 episodes off the finale of s5. A few thoughts aside from all the obv big ones (i could write a dissertation on running themes):

Its all about Elaine for me - she's constantly torn down, called a sl!t, but she's empowered, strong, intelligent, knows where the goss is, talented, entrepreneurial, and gorgeousss. She bounces back from every horrible thing thrown her way, from attacks on character, promiscuity (despite the obvious 'culture' of the show), even her own family turning on her. I'd watch a whole show about Elaine honestly

I miss Renée, she was great. Idk the reson she left but I'd also watch an early season renée show, or filler episodes w her and Whipper who is great. I'm fairly sure Ally never asks her how she is though??

Ally McBeal is a horrendous dancer: so so bad, that competition she wins for tina turner?? I can't decide if this is a running joke, pls help

Fish is openly terrible. He's made to have terrible opinions and outlooks. A lot of shows now don't have these characters anymore but on reflection is felt indicative of the kind of people you genuinely find in higher earning roles. John Cage was multifaceted and I enjoyed his character depth.

Also: Nelle lip syncing to dame edna has ruined me

Last: how the f!ck did Robert Downey Jr end up on this show???? he sings?? he's a romantic lead?? then he just leaves?? I know he left but how did he end up there to begin with? I dislike his attractiveness bc of his archetype. confused and aroused, honestly. Victor = green flag from when I was watching tho (Bon Jon Jovi has silly hair but okay, true, he's p fine tbf)

I love Faith & Wes in s4, watching their dynamic in comparison to Buffy & Giles; a slightly darker version of Slayer & Watcher

I think it’s easier to get carried away with “better” within art. But art speaks volumes about its very own existence - it’s not about reaching a larger amount of people, but reaching the right people; the people who resonate with what you make.  That’s the true essence of artistic value - knowing you have spoken to another being in sentiments beyond words, or verbal expression
