I think when people say "go to therapy" they mean "stop being mentally ill it's annoying me". Therapy is not a cure for mental illness, it is one support. Compassion and stability are other supports that massively help people and one of these alone is not nearly enough

it's so fucked how at least 70% of the time when someone says "go to therapy" they mean "learn to exist without the necessary love, support or opportunity that makes most other people into at least somewhat functional human beings". "normal people" take so much of the shit that made them into autonomous adults (even beyond the things I mentioned- like living in an environment that doesn't want to snuff you out like a cockroach for being any kind of marginalized identity) for granted that they will look at you like you're a three legged stray dog for being in distress as a result of lacking those things.
