I loveeee reading this type of comments. Thank you so much for reading🫶🏻 I’ll tried my best to give you all a good story.
While you were sleeping
bucky barnes x reader
Summary: Reader is in love with the mysterious man who goes every week to the bar where she works. When one night she witnesses a fight that leaves the man in a coma and he´s taken to the hospital, she is mistaken for his fiancée, unaware that the mysterious man is Steve Rogers himself. With no family and after losing everything in The Blip, reader becomes captivated with Steve’s friends and their unconditional love for her that she can’t bring herself to tell the truth. Things get complicated when she finds herself falling for Steve’s best friend, Bucky.
Author’s note: This is my first time writing for Bucky and I’m planning to make it a series. Loosely based on the 1995 movie “While You Were Sleeping”. English is not my first language. Feedback is always appreciated.

If someone had asked you a couple of years ago if you believed in love at first sight you probably would’ve laughed in their face, the whole concept seemed to belong only in the white pages of a book or in the bright screen of a tv, but not in real life, real life was more complicated than that. The idea of giving your heart away to someone you just met was ridiculous.
But that was before.
Now you were completely sure that you belonged to him, that you had belonged to him from the moment he walked through the doors of the small and almost empty bar where you worked.
It was the way he carried himself, hands in his pockets as he made his way to the front bar, the way he wore that ridiculous baseball cap that hide his dirty blond hair, the way he had run his fingers through that full beard when he ordered a drink and how he had closed his eyes shut placing a hand on his chest laughing when Joe, the bartender and owner of the bar, told him a joke. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t spend most of your time daydreaming about what it would be like to kiss him, hold his hand or even start a life with him. Well, I guess Joe was right, you needed a new hobby. His routine was always the same; Monday night, when the bar was almost empty, Steven would arrived and go straight to the front bar, order a couple of beers and exchange a couple of jokes with Joe. One hour later he would pay and then leave. Although you hadn’t spoken to him, you couldn’t help but admire him from afar, happy just to see him once again.
“Earth to y/n" Jimmy, your co-worker and next-door neighbor spoke, waving his hand repeatedly in front of your face forcing you out of your thoughts that always seemed to revolve around Steven and how much you wished the weekend would end so you could see him again. “Busy thinking about me?” You saw him giving you a crooked smile in the dim light and running his eyes up and down your entire body in a not so subtle way.

"So do you have a date for the wedding yet?" you choked on the wine you were drinking, Wanda's question taking you by surprise. You were now sitting, eating the food in front of you. You had been chatting happily for the last 30 minutes, surprised by how easy it was to talk to them and not bring up your relationship (or lack there of) with Steve, well, until now.
"Actually, we haven't talked about it" you replied leaving the wine glass on the table, your voice finally coming back to you. Wanda nodded seemingly satisfied with your vague answer and continued eating next to you.
You focused your eyes on the food looking for the right way to continue the conversation. The determination to tell them the truth that you had hours before seemed to disappear. It had been years since you had felt part of something. Sure, you had your apartment and your job, Joe was the closest thing you had to a friend, if you could call him that. But that was it. The events after the blip changed everyone including you, people close themselves off, and although many had returned the world was different, everyone could tell. But for this moment, being there felt right.
"I always thought he'd end up with Sharon" Sam commented, talking more to himself than anything else.
Who is Sharon?
Natasha threw him a pea which caused Sam to let out a squeal of protest. "Well, he obviously didn’t” she replied giving him a murderous look before returning to you “I'm glad it was you."
"What I MEANT is that I'm surprised there still women out there who are romantically interested in the elderly." He defended himself giving you wink.
You couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.
"Who knows, maybe there's still hope for you after all, Buck." Tony said, standing on the bar next to the table pouring himself some whiskey. The comment causing Bucky to roll his eyes but he didn't look angry.
"I've never had a problem in that department." he stated, not seeming to be bothered by this conversation at all.
The previous car ride with Bucky from Steve’s apartment seemed to last an eternity. You wouldn't be surprised if he told you he took the long way home, something about him screamed ‘disbelief’. Of course he used the moment to asked you a lot of questions about your supposed relationship with his best friend, you knew he was probably taking mental notes of every lie that came out of your mouth, you tried your best to do the same hoping it wouldn't all come back to bite you in the ass. You knew what he was good at, you had never been one of those people who idolized the avengers, not before, not during or even after the blip, you knew who they were from the news or from what your co-workers talked about. But you certainly knew what Bucky Barnes was good at, you had read about the winter soldier in a history book you had been flipping through while waiting for your favorite coffee order.
Steve Rogers' best friend, womanizer, his supposed death, what he been through and his relationship with the others avengers. You'd be lying if you said you didn’t find him somewhat intriguing.
“Well, we can all agree that 4 months is pretty fast for an engagement" Bucky’s voice snapped you out of your thoughts. He pushed his now empty plate aside and leaned back against the chair, his chest seemed to rise as he crossed his arms over it and a small, almost unnoticeable, smile crossed his face. "I bet you know a lot about him" He cocked his head to the side slightly and looked at you "like for example, his favorite movie”.
You knew it wasn't just a statement, he was asking you. Of course he was his best friend but apparently he hadn't seen Steve either for the last two years. People change. Well if that's the way he wanted to play it, you were going to use your cards right.
"He doesn't like watching TV" you said with confidence mimicking his posture and crossing your arms over your chest. For the first time since you ran into him, you held his gaze for more than just a couple of seconds. If you wanted him to believe you, you had to play the part.
"Favorite musician?" He asked quickly ignoring your previous reply. If Bucky was being honest with himself, he liked the nervous look you’d have on your face every time he looked at you, but this time he couldn't see anything but your defiant stare.
"Marvin Gaye" You mentally went over everything that was on Steve's nightstand when you went to pick up his clothes, remembering the old cds he had "and the Ramones."
"Book?"
"1776"
"What are you doing, James?" Nat’s stern voice next to you made you look away from him, for a moment you had forgotten they were there, "what is this about?"
"Nothing, nothing, just curious" He simply replied before getting up and heading to the bar for another drink. You let out a sigh of relief as the others continued their chatting. You were about to take your last sip of wine when you noticed Wanda's gaze fixed on you, you smiled softly at her and returned your attention to the food in front of you.
"And what do your parents think about him?" Tony said after a while, the food was long gone and now everyone was getting more drinks "I bet they're very happy for you."
You gulped grabbing your dirty plates taking them to the dishwasher distracting yourself from the question.
“They passed away” you replied quietly "I never knew my mother and my father died of cancer one year after I disappeared on the blip, so I never saw him again. It’s just me”.
“Oh” Tony looked at you apologetically “I’m sorry”.
“It was a long time ago” you brushed it off, not trying to make the evening uncomfortable. You close the dishwasher and turn to Nat who was going to take you to see Steve. Before you left the room you caught Bucky’s stare, only this time this one was soft, almost kind.
——
Natasha had taken you to see Steve, who remained in the same state, if you didn't know what was really happening to him, you would think he was just sleeping. His cheeks were still full of color. You'd been able to notice the little details that adorned his face, and yet Joe's voice wouldn't leave your head, he really look a lot like Ryan. According to what you had been told, it was all a matter of waiting, he was a super human after all.
An hour later, Bucky had offered to drive you back to your apartment. This time the ride was shorter, if he wanted to investigate further about his suspicions about you, he didn't. He kept quiet for the entire ride. Maybe he was just tired or maybe finding out about your loss had made him identify with you, if only for a moment.
"Did you enjoy dinner?" he finally spoke, ending the comfortable silence that had formed between you two since you left the compound. You were walking down the small hallway in your building.
His kind tone had taken you by surprise "Yes, everyone was very friendly, thank you". You replied pulling your keys out of your bag, the door to your apartment in front of you.
He let out a big sigh as he leaned against the wall next to it, hands in his pockets, while he waited for you to enter. He almost seemed shy, nothing like the Bucky you had met hours earlier.
"Look, I'm sorry if I gave you a hard time" he finally said closing his eyes for a moment before turning to look at you.
You stopped.
"Oh, don’t worr-"
"The truth is that it’s been a long time since Steve told me anything really, it's not your fault" he interrupted you and by the way his voice failed you noticed he was having a hard time talking about it. You could feel the horrible sense of guilt flooding through your body. You didn't want him to feel bad. "I'm glad you two had each other and you were taking care of him." Well, now you really felt guilty. The imposter syndrome was really kicking this time. You gave him a half smile entering your apartment.
"I didn't tell you before but… thank you for saving his life, not everyone would have been brave enough to do what you did." You turned to him, he was leaning against the door frame looking at you only this time you didn’t feel strained with his blue eyes. "I can see why he’s attracted to you” he simply said giving you one final look before turning and walking away. If he only knew.
"Goodnight, Bucky" you whispered watching him go, but this time he didn’t hear you.
A small continuous rustling sound made you wake up from your sleep. Opening your eyes to a completely dark room, you were about to reach out to turn on the lamp at the side of your bed when a cold material covered your mouth and the smell of leather filled your senses.
What seemed like a figure of a man was on top of you, his gloved hand was over your mouth trying to restrain you.
Terror began to invade your body. Oh god, he’s going to hurt me. You twisted and pulled your arms trying to free yourself but he was much stronger than you. He didn’t budge an inch. Feeling the adrenaline rush through your body, you didn't even realize that you had managed to let go of your arm, without thinking you dug your fingers into his eyeballs, and your knee hit his groin, knocking his breath out of him and making his grip weaken for a moment. You jumped out of bed, turning on the lamp and bringing it to the floor along with you as the man pounced on you again.
The room filled with the dim yellow light and that's when you saw him; an unknown man with black hair and tan skin loomed over you, he was dressed just like the men of the alley. You let out a high pitched scream before the man slammed your head hard against the floor.
Your vision blurred and a high pitched noise rang in your ears leaving you dazed. Before you knew it, the man was no longer on top of you but lying on your side, his face was in pain and a metal arm was around his neck.
Bucky.
That’s all you remember before you pass out.

Part 2.
series masterlist

Things get complicated when she finds herself falling for Steve's best friend, Bucky.
Tumblr media
Exhausted, you walked down the busy street that led to Joe's bar. The previous hours had not turned out as you would've hoped. After the outburst of emotions at the hospital from Steve's friends, you could feel the headache coming on. You weren't even sure why you hadn't been able to tell the truth at that precise moment, heck, you weren't even a good liar. But for the first time in a long time, you were overcome with a feeling you thought you would never feel again, warmth. It was so familiar yet so foreign at the same time. Soon you realized that your presence there meant something more important to them; hope. Hope of finally knowing what had happened to Steve in the last few years, hope to find out who was responsable for his situation or maybe the opportunity of having him back, you couldn't be sure, but they had welcomed you with such kindness and gratitude, that you couldn't bring yourself to tell the truth.
So when they were getting everything ready to take Steve to the avengers compound, you took the opportunity to return home in hopes of getting some sleep, knowing that Steve was in good hands and that he would be better. A sigh of relieve left your body as you opened the door to your apartment, without even caring about changing your clothes, you lay on your bed and fell asleep.
Joe was leaning on the bar as he stared at you in shock trying to process what you just told him.
“Are you crazy?" he finally opened his mouth after what seemed like an eternity. "Steven doesn't even know you exist."
“Is Steve, and thank you for that" you sighed putting your head in your hands, you had hope that the horrible headache was gone by now, clearly you were wrong. And if that wasn't bad enough, you had found out that the men from last night that attack Steve had disappeared on the way to the police station, as if they had vanished into thin air. Part of you feared they would come for you.
"Let me get this straight" he put aside the glass cup he was cleaning and looked at you "you've fooled the mightiest superheroes in the universe into believing that Steve Rogers, who you've never talked to and who you didn’t even know who he really was less than 24 hours ago, is your fiancé."
I cringe.
"Well, it sounds crazier if you put it that way."
"It is crazy either way" he replied "what have you gotten yourself into? What if those men in the alley find out about it too? What if they come after you to get to him? What if Steve wakes up and see a stranger who claims to be his fiancée hanging out with his friends".
The thought had crossed your mind, things seemed to be getting more and more complicated, you knew you had to tell the truth and that is what you planned to do, but somehow the thought of never seeing Steve again was unbearable.
Joe sighed putting his hand on your shoulder as he saw the anguish on your face, "Y/n... h-how much can you really love someone you don't even know?" he stared at you with sorrow, he paused for a moment as if he weren´t sure of his next question. "Are you sure this isn't about Ryan?
You froze. It had been a long time since you'd heard that name, you hadn't even allowed yourself to think about that name and the person it belonged to. He knew that. "It's just, he looked so much like Steve, maybe the only thing you love about Steve is just that."
You swallowed feeling the tears starting to sting your eyes. You didn't want to talk about it. "I'll tell them the truth Joe, I just need a little time to figure out how to do it." you sighed "but first, remember the time you mentioned you knew the address of Steve's apartment?" you said trying to sound as casual as you could.
Joe narrowed his eyes and looked at you curiously.
"Maybe..." he dragged out "what are you getting at?"
"Natasha sent me a text, she invited me to dinner tonight at the compound, but before that she asked if I could pick up some clothes for Steve at his apartment and I said yes." You said quickly, evading the gaze of your boss in front of you.
"Well of course, what kind of fiancée wouldn't know where her future husband lives, right?" He said rolling his eyes.
After begging some more he finally gave you the adress, in fact, Steve's apartment wasn't too far from the bar so you headed to the address Joe gave you. You had to find a way to get in and get his clothes before tonight's dinner.
You sighed staring at the big brown door in front of you, after 4 flights of stairs you found the apartment, you had to find some way to get in without looking like you were trespassing, maybe you could try to explain the situation to the doorman so he would give you an extra key or something. You were about to go back when you heard a deep voice you didn't recognize behind you.
"So are you gonna open the door or stare at it for another 3 minutes."
You let out a squeal turning around with your heart pounding in your chest. Blue eyes met yours, he was leaning on the stair railing, wearing a cap that covered his brown hair, and a black shirt that accentuated his broad shoulders. You had never seen him before but once again he looked vaguely familiar. His intense gaze swept over you from head to toe.
"I'm James... Bucky, Bucky Barnes. Steve's best friend" oh great, more friends "you must be y/n, right? Steve's fiancée" he added in an ambiguous tone. He cocked his head to the side and you flinched, a part of you felt exposed under his scrutinizing gaze. As if he was able to see right behind your cheap facade.
Red covered your cheeks as anxiety took over your body.
"U-um... yeah" you cursed yourself internally for stuttering so much "I-I don't remember meeting you."
"That's because we haven´t" his answer was dry as he started walking towards you "so? are you gonna open that door? I suppose you have an extra key, don't you?
"S-sure..." you mumbled, with shaky hands you put your arm up over the door frame praying that Steve was one of those people who left an extra key there just in case. You were thinking of what excuse to use for the intimidating man waiting behind you when your fingers touched something metallic. Bingo. "This is where we keep it" you smiled showing him the small key, he looked surprised for a moment but was quick to hide it, back to his serious face.
"How did you know where he lives?" you asked cautiously as you opened the apartment door. If he was part of Steve's friends, he wouldn't know of his whereabouts for the last 2 years either.
"I stopped by Joe's bar" he simply replied following you inside the apartment "Natasha told me I could find you there, so I went, Joe gave me the location and told me you would be here picking up some things."
The apartment didn´t looked like much, a small brown couch, a TV, the little kitchen on the right side, and a hallway that led to what you suppose would be the bedroom.
"So how long have you two been together?" you turned quickly, Bucky Barnes was going through the papers scattered on the coffee table in the living room.
"Oh, Steve and I?" you muttered "since September 17th" you said the first thing that came to mind.
Shit.
"Huh" he put down the papers and looked at you with a frown "so four months, that's pretty fast".
More like less than 12 hours, but he didn't have to know that yet "You have no idea".
You slipped away quickly to the bedroom before Bucky could think of any more questions. You knew he would find out soon, you could sense it in the way he looked at you. There were no thank yous, no tears or hugs like with Natasha and Steve's friends. No, with Bucky Barnes there were only doubts and mistrust.
Your eyes roamed the room, the bed was unmade, there were still clothes on the floor, cds of old rock bands and history books lay on the side table. You fixed your eyes on the dresser next to the door and checked the drawers for Steve's clothes.
Placing the clothes in the bag you had with you, you headed for the living room, Bucky was inspecting the place as if he was trying to look for signs that this was, in fact, Steve's apartment. You forced yourself to look into his eyes, unruly strands of dark hair sticking out of his cap as he tilted his head and looked at you. "Can you pour me a glass of water, please?" he said casually but his eyes reflected a deeper motive.
"Um, sure," you ran your hand over your damp forehead as you headed to the kitchen. "I don't remember seeing you at the hospital," you said, making conversation out of him, hoping he wouldn't notice that you didn't know where the damn glasses were.
"I just got back from a mission" he responded but you didn't pay attention to him, you opened the cabinet in front of you, revealing two boxes of cereal and some canned goods, you closed it quickly and opened the next one.
"You don't know where the glasses are kept?" you heard his voice right behind you, you turned around, he was just a few steps away from you, the corner of his lips turned up, as if he thought it was funny. As if he knew the answer to his question. He was testing you.
You forced yourself to smile at him, trying to act casual about it. “Yeah, it's just that Steve sometimes moves them around.”
"Yes, I'm sure".
"Ha! see, here they are" you said triumphantly opening another of the cabinets. A hand behind you closed it before you could take one of the glasses.
"You know what? I'm not thristy anymore," he replied with a low laugh as he took some keys out of the pocket of his blue jeans. "We better get going, I have a feeling it's going to be a very interesting dinner."

While you were sleeping | Bucky Barnes
Part 2.
series masterlist
Summary: Reader is in love with the mysterious man who goes every week to the bar where she works. When one night she witnesses a fight that leaves the man in a coma and he´s taken to the hospital, she is mistaken for his fiancée, unaware that the mysterious man is Steve Rogers himself. With no family and after losing everything in The Blip, reader becomes captivated with Steve's friends and their unconditional love for her that she can't bring herself to tell the truth.

You'd be lying if you said you didn't spend most of your time daydreaming about what it would be like to kiss him, hold his hand or even start a life with him. Well, I guess Joe was right, you needed a new hobby. His routine was always the same; Monday night, when the bar was almost empty, Steven would arrived and go straight to the front bar, order a couple of beers and exchange a couple of jokes with Joe. One hour later he would pay and then leave. Although you hadn’t spoken to him, you couldn't help but admire him from afar, happy just to see him once again.
“Earth to y/n" Jimmy, your co-worker and next-door neighbor spoke, waving his hand repeatedly in front of your face forcing you out of your thoughts that always seemed to revolve around Steven and how much you wished the weekend would end so you could see him again. "Busy thinking about me?" You saw him giving you a crooked smile in the dim light and running his eyes up and down your entire body in a not so subtle way.
“You got me" You sighed standing up straight, cleaning the table in front of you. Since the first day you started working there, he had taken a certain interest in you, always making flirtly comments and asking you to dates despite making it very clear you would never go out with him.
“I'm going to bed" he let out as he put on his denim jacket, little drops of sweat covering his chubby cheeks and making his curly black hair stick to his skin. "You are more than welcome to join me." He said winking at you and you couldn’t help but to roll your eyes at him, shaking your head in desapproval as you wave goodbye.
The clock in front of you read 2:43 a.m. as you let out a yawn and rub your eyes from exhaustion watching the only clients left in the bar. Working as a waitress in a small bar wasn't your dream job but it paid the bills. Besides, Joe had taken you in and allowed you to stay in the small apartment above the bar for a reasonable price, which helped you a lot.
Things after the Blip hadn't been the same, one day you were in the kitchen of your beautiful apartment making dinner and the next thing you knew, you woke up on the cold hard kitchen floor with the most horrible headache. Strangers, who seemed to be living in your apartment now, giving you shocked looks. In a matter of seconds, 5 years had passed and everything you once knew had disappeared; your home, your job, your family. You shook your head pushing those thoughts away not wanting to think about it at that moment. Turning to look at the couple when they ask you for the check, you smiled, thinking about how in a few more minutes you would be curled up in your soft and warm bed. You really had to talk to Joe about switching to the morning shift.
You cleaned the table once the couple had left and turned off the lights making sure the doors were securely closed. Grabbing the garbage bags you made your way to the back door and into the back alley of the bar to throw them away. The cold wind brushed against your skin making you shiver, the old streetlight which kept flickering was the only thing that separated you from the darkness of the night.
The dead silence that lately seemed to fill the city was interrupted by a sudden loud crash that startled you making you drop the garbage bags, turning around you saw a man lying on the ground trying to get up, where the hell had he come from?
You gasped.
It was Steven. Your Steven. Only this time his pretty face was covered in small cuts and blood was coming out of his nose dripping into his white shirt, the shock written all over his face when his eyes set on you made you froze. In a blink of an eye, he had lunged at you and pulled you behind the big metal trash container before the deafening sound of guns being fired and bullets passed by the two of you.
"Are you okay?" he shouted over the noise when you let out a scream and hold onto him, his worried eyes searching your face making sure you were okay. It was the first time he had ever spoken to you and you couldn’t breath, the words got caught in your throat, refusing to come out. You haven’t been this closed to him before. He seemed rather familiar. "Stay here, don't move" he ordered you when you didn’t say a word and then run into the alley again.
Your stomach shot up to your throat when you took a quick look to see what was happening; Steven was fighting with a man who were dressed in black, two more were lying unconscious in the floor, his cold and calculating look told you that he wasn't planning on stopping anytime soon. The smell of sweat and blood filled the air and fear ran through your body as you watched the man take the gun and point it at him, everything after that moved in slow motion; in one quick movement, Steven had snatched the gun from the man’s hands and threw it away as he connected his fist with his face. Blood splattered on the ground. You didn't know he could fight like that, his movements were fast and precise, as if he had been training for that moment his whole life. He smashed his knee against the man’s face and without giving him time to recover from the blow, he attacked him again, his fists reaching his already bloodied face again and again making him fall to the cement with a thud, totally unconscious. That's when a bright white light appeared, illuminating everything, a fourth man that you haven't seen before was leaning against the brick wall near Steven, he didn't look bigger than the man lying unconscious on the cement next to him but an uneasy feeling invaded you, he wasn't trying to fight Steven, in fact he hadn't tried to attack him, no, he was studying him, he was studying every move he made, that's why when Steven attacked him, he quickly dodged his blows and with a quick movement he placed both hands on his head, the white light no longer illuminated the alley but small flashes of light seemed to want to escape from in between his fingers, you didn't know what was happening but when you heard Steven howl of pain and fall to the ground on his knees you knew that he was hurting him.
You didn't know what came over you but the next thing you knew is that you grabbed a metal pipe that was lying next to you and ran towards that man, catching him off guard and hit him in the back of the head, making him dropped to the floor. You quickly turned around searching for Steven, that’s when you saw him, he was on his knees on the pavement, his back was turned from you, he stay there for a couple of seconds not moving before fallen to the ground just like the other guys. You ran to him immediately, dropping to your knees, ignoring the pain that shot up all over your legs as you did.
“No, no, no, are you okay? Talk to me" you whispered desperately as you brought your ear to his chest trying to see if his heart was still beating.  "Come on Steven, you have to wake up" you pleaded shaking him but his eyes remained closed.  With shaky hands you grabbed your phone from your pocket and diall 911.
He was not waking up.
——
"W-where are you taking him?" you asked the doctor once you finally caught sight of Steven, everything was moving so fast in the hospital, they were carrying a very unconscious Steven on the gurney and everyone was shouting instructions. You frowned as they look between Steven and you, curiosity and what it seems like confusion written all over their faces. What was going on?
The gray-haired doctor immediately turned around, finally noticing your presence when they led Steven through some doors and you tried to follow him. "Oh, you can’t go in there" he said quickly raising a hand, stopping you from entering those doors.
"No, you don't understand. I was with-"
"Are you family?" he cut you off, his gaze full of exasperation.
"No," you muttered. You just wanted to know if he was going to be okay. "But I was-"
"You can't go in. Family only." He interrupted you again "Wait in there" he said coldly pointing to the small waiting room.
You sighed in defeat knowing that there was nothing you could do now, you followed Steven with your eyes until you saw him disappear through the white doors.
“But I was going to marry him" you murmured to yourself, hating the fact that this was the first time he had ever spoken to you and now it was very likely that you would never get the chance to talk to him or see his handsome face anymore, hell you didn't even know if he was going to be okay, or if you would ever see him alive again.
You bit your nails feeling nervous as you waited in the waiting room. It had been 2 hours and you knew that they had already contacted his family and that you should probably leave but you couldn't help but stay to see if you heard at least something that would tell you that he had woken up. That he was okay.
"Hello, sweetheart" you looked up as you heard the nurse's voice standing in front of you with sympathetic eyes. "You're y/n, right?" You noded. "Come with me". Without saying a word you followed her, noticing that she was taking you to the intensive care area. "I'll give you a few minutes" she smiled stopping in front of a door and indicating for you to go in.
Steven was lying on the white hospital bed, machines connected to his still unconscious body, a sigh of relief left your body as the small sound that filled the room indicated that his heart was still beating. "Is he here? What the hell happened?" You heard a voice say before other voices chimed in and everyone started talking at the same time, commotion filling the hallway outside the room. You stuck your head out the window trying to see what was going on outside and your face lost its color. The Avengers were in the hallway along with the same doctor you had talked to hours ago and they were heading to the room. What the hell was going on? You slowly made your way to the wall as far from the door as you could when the group of superheroes enter the room, all their attention fixed on Steven, oblivious to the fact that you were in the room. You frowned at how weird the situation was and then you darted your eyes to Steven. Realization washing all over you.
You take in a sharp breath.
How had you not noticed before?  Blond hair, blue eyes, the only thing different about him was his beard which made him look very different from that golden boy that America loved. Steven... Steve. Steve Rogers. The Steve who used to be Captain America. You put your hand to your mouth in disbelief as to why you hadn't recognized him much earlier.
"What is going on?" You heard Sam Wilson ask, you remember hearing about him on the news although lately you didn’t pay much attention to what was happening, always too focus on your job or in attending the meetings of your support group.
"He's in a coma" the doctor began to explain and you took a breath "What they told me is that they found him in an alley unconscious, apparently there was a fight. We don't know much yet". You opened your mouth to tell them that you knew what had happened but the doctor spoke again "We don't know what caused this state, his vital signals are strong as well as his brain waves. He's a super soldier so i'm pretty sure he's going to be just fine". You sighed in relief as you listened to him.
"Thank you doctor, but we'll take it from here. We already have everything ready to transport him to the Avengers Compound." One of them talked and at that moment the policeman who had take your statement when you had called 911 hours ago walked through the door, his eyes fixed on you, the nurse who had let you into the unit behind him.
"I've been looking all over the hospital for you, I need to ask you a few more questions" he addressed you, making everyone in the room turn to look at you for the first time. You froze, your heart starting to pound as all eyes focused on you.
"Who's she?" The woman with short blonde hair spoke. You opened your mouth to answer when the nurse spoke for you.
"She's his fiancé."
Wait, what?
"She's Y/n and she's going to marry him" She spoke again throwing you a smile.
You shook your head repeatedly, your mouth opening and closing but no words came out, why had she said that? Commotion filled the room once again preventing you from speaking.
"Better yet, she save his life" commented the policeman smiling.
The whole room fell silent.
"I thought it was a fight," one of them said, confusion on his face.
"She fought the other guy, Steve was too weak to keep fighting, without her, he might not have survived".
They all stared at you once again, surprise written all over their faces. Before you could say anything else, the blonde haired girl, who you knew was known as Black Widow, walked up to you and wrapped her arms around you, making you freeze, squeezing you tightly before pulling away, only then you were able to see the tears that run through her face, she looked relieved but there was still worry in her eyes,  she wiped away the tears quickly before speaking. "I'm sorry, it's just that we hadn't seen or talked to him in over 2 years, we didn't even know he was here in Brooklyn, after everything that happened -" you could tell her voice cracked and she shook her head before continuing "We thought we'd never see him again. But I'm glad he found you and that you're taking care of him.” She whispered, a smile dancing on her lips. “Thank you for bringing him back to us, I can’t wait to hear all about you”.
No, no, no.
"Oh, and by the way, welcome to the family".

writing fanfiction is just. i’m being so creative and original. i’m plagiarizing everyone by accident. i’m a genius. i’m cringe. i’m too angsty. i’m too cheesy. this is not in character. it doesn’t matter that it’s not in character because these are my characters now. i love my hobby. this is the worst possible use of my time. i’m seeking validation. i’m projecting my own personal problems onto this story and i’m barely hiding it. i know so many words and i’m using all of them wrong. im on tumblr posting about it instead of writing it.
