alright but let’s talk about the mighty nein and loneliness for a second. 

beauregard’s loneliness honed her attitude. she’s ready to fight anyone over anything at the drop of a hat, to rebel against expectations set for her; it’s a form of self-defense from the people in her life that either completely rejected, or used her attempts at connecting for personal gain. 

loneliness is new to caduceus. he grew up in the middle of a forest, but he had a family, and a clear purpose to his life. he was sheltered, and he’s aware of it; it’s not a bad thing for him. it was never supposed to be. it’s only when his family left and lines started getting muddy, he started to question his place in the world. 

caleb’s loneliness is punishment. it’s what he believes a man like him deserves. 

fjord associates loneliness with things he wants to forget. his life before vandren, or the little that we know of it, wasn’t a particularly happy one; and the faster he can move on from that, the better.

jester’s loneliness is probably obvious to everyone but herself. she understands that she grew up sheltered and isolated, but she doesn’t realize how that’s affected the way she connects with people. how desperately she needs them to stay by her side. how devastated she gets when the people she trusts aren’t with her anymore.

molly is probably the least lonely member of the mighty nein, and only because he made sure of it. he has had the unique privilege of crafting his own life from scratch, as an adult. he could choose how lonely he should be; so, in true mollymauk fashion, he opted to avoid being alone entirely. ( and it worked, didn’t it? )

nott’s loneliness represents everything that’s wrong about her – at least, in her eyes. she doesn’t belong with the goblins, but she’ll never belong with the rest of the world, either; not unless she changes who she is. 

then there’s yasha, whose loneliness isn’t a burden. it doesn’t bother her. she wears it like a badge, keeps the scars in her heart as a reminder to the people she has lost; this way, she can keep them with her.

i just think it’s fascinating that we essentially have 8 different approaches to being alone. but at the end of it, it’s their loneliness that made sure they stayed together. the mighty nein rely on each other without really acknowledging it; and in turn, they accept each other with no strings attached.
