hello!!!! i never post on here anymore, but am doing so today because i need to share with you all something very important: a yuri manga rec list !!!

a few notes before i get to the list: 

i made this because i know it can be intimidating + difficult trudging through to get to the good stuff so i hope this helps a bit

i’m going to try to give general warnings for things but there’s so much here i know i’ve missed some, so definitely keep that in mind

i only considered complete manga for this list! yuri/shoujo ai (and some of these are the latter) manga are particularly subject to being cancelled or dropped, and i didn’t want to put anyone through that heartbreak haha

and now for that good content, in no particular order:

Lonely Wolf, Lonely Sheep- two girls with the same name and the exact same injury meet each other when their name is called at the hospital- they couldn’t be more different, but find themselves- you guessed it- inexplicably drawn to one another??? SORRY I’M NOT DOING A GOOD JOB SELLING IT, BUT, ITS ONE OF MY FAVES..AGH…Big Ol’ self harm/self hatred warning, also a very emotionally and physically abusive ex re-appears in chapter 3

Love Me Softly- cute little one shot about a girl who gets hit on the head and is suddenly able to hear her classmate’s thoughts

The Azure Bird and Spring Wind- one shot of a main character who is part of a paranormal club and has a dissociative disorder. this is done in a way i found really good and #relatable, echoed a lot of my and my friends’ experiences honestly. vaguely mentions suicide of an unnamed “ghost” character

Rocks and Murderous Intents- really weird title i know, but another relatable one about having special interests and how that can be isolating with many people but a point of connection with others

Koigokoro Metronome and its sequel, Koiiro Etude- i know y’all like that enemies to lovers trope and i know it’s hard to find that with girls. hey. this one goes out to you. (as one would guess by the title, it’s about girls in an instrument club. it is two one shots so be warned its on the short side!)

I’ll Send Her Home On The Last Train- sometimes a one shot doesn’t even have anything that super stands out about it but it just reads the right way, this is one of those for me…it’s just sweet, and i’ve been weak to yankee characters since fruits basket, sue me.

White Lily and Spring Aster- like the last, kind of on the generic side but very sweet, and i love anything about plants so there you go

Momo to Botan to Yuri no Hana- this one’s main character is very plagued by internalized homophobia, but if you aren’t bothered by that or the entire base concept of “maid cafe”, this is a great one. worst thing about it is it cuts off before it feels really complete. still worth it but wish there was more!!!

Chemical Romance- i completely admit to the fact that i started reading this one because of the name- i can confirm it has nothing to do with the band, haha. i love romances that revolve around unromantic things, and Constant Sneezing is pretty high up on the list of unromantic. v cute, both characters are huge dorks

The Crybaby Prince- a small curvy girl who wants to present in the “prince” aesthetic and a tall handsome girl who wants to present in the “princess” aesthetic bemoan how their bodies don’t match their tastes. this is kind of a tough one cause it has those Gender Feelings as well as gay feelings all over it, in ways that’ll be comforting to some people and triggering to others. be careful and kind to yourselves

Oniyuri-san and Himeyuri-san- two student council members try to navigate dating- a rare one where the couple is established before the story starts, and it’s all the better for it. very cute, very gay

Candy- this one has some Gorgeous compositions.. v good, consistent art in general. really long one (by yuri standards) and doesn’t dance around (spoilers) them getting together like most do, and actually focuses on their developing relationship. as for warnings the big one is the Very predatory teacher character that appears in volume 2. it is purely emotional and ends as soon as the teacher moves to touch. there’s a non consensual neck kiss before they’re going out early on? internalized homophobia in one character.

Fuwa Fuwa no Kimochi- as you might guess from the title, this anthology is pretty much just pure fluff, but it’s the enjoyable kind.

general rec of Otsu Hiyori’s work

general rec of Morishima Akiko’s work (more here), with reservations that some have gross stuff like incest (dynasty generally has these tagged, which is why i linked them first- angelic girl has untagged rape fantasizing though, so not always) but i really do love and recommend her good stuff, her art and characters are great, and its also really great to see yuri about adults instead of just teens too. stories about lesbians by lesbians are the best..anyway all that to say most of her work is great. Office Romance is a favourite of mine, as a place to start! i know there’s an instance of casual cissexism in the beginning but nothing else bad i remember

aand here’s a second installment, updated for valentine’s day ♡♡♡

Secret of the Princess- this one goes out to the fake dating/marriage trope!! there’s a good bit of internalized misogyny and heteronormativity in the beginning, and suicidal ideation at one point. really sweet story of escaping those things.

Animal- short and cute furry one shot about a girl and her bear classmate? love the style of this one

Renai- rEALly wish there was more to this one…complete though! about a manga editor and her new artist whose work she has admired for a long time.

Rock It, Girl!!- breaking my own rules as this one isn’t finished and is in all likelihood dropped, but felt the need to include it cause it’s that enjoyable. when i was digging i found it had apparently been licensed, so here’s hoping it will be resurrected

Salomelic- a young witch moves to a new school but her reputation precedes her, ostracizing her from the class until a cheerful girl tries to befriend her. a simple story with a good execution that makes it shine!

Their Story- still in progress so i’m breaking my rules again but this one is good enough it deserves mention anyway. updates all the time so there’s little chance of this one being dropped. there’s instances of sexual harassment as i recall, but nothing else that i remember. REALLY good do not miss out on this

Magan & Danai- absolutely adorable diary comic of the artist and her wife. some uncomf weight related comments but mostly v good, makes me feel big gay

Apocalypse- very cancelled but so good i would still recommend it. Gay

Graffiti- simple and short but fun ‘meet cute’ story

Cirque Arachne- NSFW + alcohol. almost didn’t put this on the list because there is one ostensibly a trans woman character who is reacted to in a like. shocked at her sudden appearance/looks way? i’m phrasing this poorly. there’s a probably-trans-lady who is not treated Badly per se but its not handled well. no misgendering but definitely wanted to be mention it, otherwise great

My Unique Day and I’ll Bring You Mille-Feuille!- both very sweet adult focused stories from the same collection, with an art style i really like… alcohol, nudity and implied sex but nothing explicit

First Love- as one guess by the title, this is not one to go to if you want a fast or far-progressed relationship, but rather a more realistic example character beginning to get used to the very idea of dating.

Our Journey to Lesbian Motherhood- exactly what the title suggests, this one is about a lesbian couple in japan looking into having a child together. just started the other month/is ongoing but definitely not a subject i’ve seen in manga before and have really enjoyed reading.

Kase-san also known as Asagao to Kase-san- NSFW in parts- this one is LONg and currently ongoing but it just got announced it’s going to be adapted into a anime and y’all that just does not happen to yuri, good yuri, and i am very excited so i feel now is the time to rec it!! gay and girls and plants and nice chunky linework so basically , hello it’s me, prism, i’m here for this. bad stuff uh..the titular kase-san’s body is sometimes exaggerated/sexualized to such a degree that i’m worried about where all her organs are??? there’s internalized homophobia? regular original flavor Homophobia™? it’s so long i’m probably forgetting a million things and also i am not caught up. i’m sorry. it’s near 3 am as i’m writing this. it’s good though please enjoy
