I got bored and decided to watch some Keanu Reeves movies to pass some time, and Johnny Mnemonic really is just a John Wick/Cyberpunk mashup, but it also feels like “what if Johnny Silverhand was a netrunner”

Sharing screenshots of all the V’s I’ve made in order from oldest to newest.

First up is my pride and joy from the first play through, my nomad Vivienne. Then my streetkid, Verity. Then my corpo, Vincent (because this man looks like a Vincent and I can’t be convinced otherwise so he gets canon name), and finally, another nomad because I couldn’t decide what she’d be, Valerie (because it just works).

Why do I have mostly women you may ask? Because Vincent was a clear indicator that I shouldn’t be allowed to create men. Women is already pushing it, but I make men way too pretty for their own good, and Vincent is a particular monster I never thought I was capable of producing. Makes me feel like Dr. Frankenstein.

I’ll share some tidbits about their individual relationships with Johnny:

Viv? Her and Johnny are in love. Like holy SHIT, it’s unreal. Girl literally sacrificed herself and gave Johnny her body. They are truly a tragic fucking pair. This playthrough had me sobbing, no joke. Their relationship had a pretty rough start, but they connected so quickly. Johnny is super pissed that Viv fucked River, but at the same time, can’t blame her for wanting a connection. While he doesn’t get it at first, being in her head makes it make sense. Plus she rubbed off on him so he’s also wanting that connection, just sucked that Vivienne essentially died for him to get the physical connection with someone. And it can’t even be with the person he wants it with most.

Verity…would not touch Johnny would with a ten-foot pole. It’s not because she hates him, she’s just the type to not want to get wrapped up in his mess. She is looking respectfully and keeps his ass at a distance. But she does try to get him into pseudo therapy session by asking how he’s doing, Johnny hates it when she calls him out and reads him like a fucking book. I haven’t finished the story yet, but that’s because this playthrough is a completionist thing and she has tried romanced no one but Kerry and Panam who are, unfortunately, just not into her. Could these two fall in love? Quite possibly, I like to imagine that Johnny is pining for her and she’s just like “Dude, bro. We’re great buds.”

Vincent would absolutely try to fuck Johnny, has tried. Johnny is both confused but turned on? He doesn’t know how to feel. Vincent is just a flirty menace, who cannot be stopped. Just pray for Kerry, though. He’s in for a ride. Could these two fall in love? Probably, but the two of them are pretty flighty and not up for commitment. Kerry is the first real relationship Vince has had in awhile. He is down bad for the Eurodyne. Johnny is definitely a bit miffed that Kerry got Vincent to settle down, but in the process, Johnny also settles. The potential for poly is heavily there.

Val is actually relatively new and I haven’t played much of her save, but I feel like her and Johnny get on like a house fire. So very well, but also terribly. Out of the four Vs, these two argue the most and it gets nasty. If Johnny had a body, it’d be on-site for Valerie, and the same could be said for Johnny. Are they in love? Hard to say, there’s definitely tension there. It could be they become the greatest of friends, but it’s possible they both have underlying feeling for one another they just Do Not acknowledge.

Feel free to ask questions though! I have lots of thoughts on cyberpunk and have for MONTHS. Literally have no one to really talk about it with because of spoilers or they just don’t get it.

okay i love the theory of the last point. but but but but. what if and i mean a big what if….dlc content could possibly be johnny getting a body? maybe Alt discusses it with johnny (or v if you go in with Rogue).

is it far-fetched and too optimistic, abso-fucking-lutely. but even if there was no discussion, perhaps…alt knows of a place to acquire a vessel for the silverhand.

what if she’s like “sayonara asshole” and just fucking uploads his engram into a body and sends his ass on his way. imagine the shock. the drama of it all. alt told no one a damn thing and was just like “he’s the world’s problem, again.”

but on the other hand, her absorbing v could mean she finds whatever information and capabilities they have as useful. while with johnny, most of his experience is seen through a very singular lense (at least her opinion), so whatever he’d have to offer— information wise— is fragmented at best, and completely useless at worst. so to her, absorbing him wouldn’t benefit her very much.

though this is just me spitballing. i kinda see ai alt as a bigger bitch than some, but she’s practical and logical, so what did anyone expect? she takes what she wants and discards what she doesn’t.

keeping johnny doesn’t benefit her, but he’s the only person that remembers who she was before becoming part of the net. so maybe it’s the very small, but still human part of her that desires that sort of connection. he won’t be a part of her but he will always be there.

v doesn’t know her at all, but like i said earlier, v had rather useful abilities. not only that but v has a more updated view of world and what happens in it. seeing information, reading it, is very different from experiencing the changes. so absorbing v makes sense in that regard. there’s no connection there, nothing pulls at her from whatever depths of her code, BUT v has things alt wants, so she takes.

Headcanon A - Realistic

My biggest HC that I hold p hard to is that Johnny lost his arm in a grenade-related injury.

Looking at the concept art for Johnny topless, you can see on the side of his silver arm there's a p significant amount of damage along his ribcage and chest. To me, it looks like it could pretty easily be the leftovers of hasty, imperfect stitches from a field medic, presumably from an explosion of shrapnel that needed to be dug out and sewed up. Kinda grisly, but I HC he was holding a grenade that blew up in his hand, which caused him to lose the arm and shredded that side of his body. Also explains the burn-like scarring both on his side and up near his throat.

Headcanon B - While It May Not Be Realistic, It's Hilarious

I'm a simple man. I look at Johnny having pretty nice hair compared to the grungey rest of him and have come to assume that while he was touring with Samurai, he used to steal Kerry's shampoo / conditioner rather than buy his own stuff (which was just like, 3 in 1 anyway. Look into your heart, you know it's true.). After they stopped touring together, Johnny'd gotten used to having hair he didn't rip out every time he tried to brush it, and so it's like the only hygienic thing he kept up with regularly. He went and bought the same stuff Kerry used bc I think it's funny.

Also he's allergic to cats. Nibbles gets away w it bc 1) hairless and 2) Johnny is an engram... but I like to imagine he gets phantom nose itches anyway.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

AW MAN UH I'm terrible at angsty things that aren't directly involved w my own V... I think... the ending where he lets V go beyond the Blackwall instead of him is FAKE unless you just have like zero friendship w him at that point. By the end of the game, if you're friends w him, the idea that Johnny would let you die instead of absolutely refusing to let you give up is wild to me. I think he's so tired of the people he loves dying for him, because of him, that he would be willing to make V hate him if it meant that V got to keep living... so in my V's ending (in my head anyway), Virtue tries to give Johnny his body and Johnny tricks him by pulling him into a hug at the end of the walkway before spinning them and pushing himself off the bridge instead. It's fun to inflict on my friends bc they all yell at me for this and how upset both Johnny and V would be in the aftermath of this KJHDKJ

Maybe that's a cheap answer but IT'S ALL I GOT

also if you friendship Johnny he is always in love with V at the end I don't make the rules (I do).

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

Actually Johnny is fine in the Blackwall and was not absorbed into Alt if he is the one sent, but V IS ABSORBED if they go instead, making the ending where Johnny takes V's body closer to non-canon ending...

NOTICE how you can see V begin to dissolve here? The red speckles of V begin to crumple and fall into the Blackwall, presumably signifying them being 'aborbed' by Alt.

If you notice, his body doesn't begin to dissolve away. He remains solid (sans his normal engram-glitching), almost as if Alt is not absorbing him.

SO my HC is that if Johnny is the one being sent, he is kept alive by whatever fondness even a completely AI Alt still has lingering somewhere deep down for him. Instead of absorbing him, she preserves him. However, if V is the one sent... Alt has no reason not to absorb V. She doesn't know them, has never known them apart from their brief meetings in-game, and so absorbs them without a second thought.

THAT'S MY THEORY... wow sorry maybe for something cuter... he actually really likes the color blue but that's not his BRAND, man. [cough]
