Highly highly recommended Dr Kim of London, it's one of my all time favourite webtoons and definitely my favourite medical drama
it is VERY very good. Period drama. Comedy. drama. doesn't treat victorians like idiots for not owning sterile gloves and not knowing about micro organisms. Friendship. Love it.

Concept: webtoon reader wakes up in the body of an isekai manhwa protagonist
🤣🤣 i know it isn't meant like that but it feels like a passive aggressive reminder that i haven't updated Surviving as a Mid-Tier in a long while🤣🤣🤣
(a fic in which a webtoon reader wakes up in the world of UnOrdinary)
(and the cut scenes)

no but really I went into The Age of Arrogance thinking it was going to be yet another "badass FL gets with royal prince in order to topple the corrupt royal family and get the prince on the throne" story, which is fine in itself. Many such cases. Many such cases being good or at least compelling stories (I will live the life of the villainess; Angelic Lady; I'm the queen in this life; The Cup of Vengeance is in your hands; et al). (If you want to have a wider range and add grand dukes and other senior peers to the list of ML that help topple the corrupt reigning family, add Leveling Up my husband to the max, For My Derelict Favorite, Cierra, Remarried Empress kind of and probably where I abdicate my title as empress is going, and that's only the ones that aren't explicitly set in fantasy Japan/Korea! also that's only the ones I am reading myself)
BUT NO! THE AGE OF ARROGANCE IS BETTER!
It's a story about an action girl who had to take up arms or literally die and have her people be wiped out. She enjoys fighting now that it's less of a life or death situation but she doesn't enjoy war. She wants the good of her people. Her husband and her act like actual medieval lords, as in they manage the estate, make sure their people are fed and clothed and the roofs are repaired. That's already two things that are often enough cast aside (one for blind blood lust, the other for no management or the minimum) that I would enjoy it!
But then! Aha! In a world populated by stories in which the temple/religion/church are always corrupt and the bad guys, The Age of Arrogance manages to make clear that 1) their religion isn't bad 2) the heroes are pious too, at least offscreen 3) the priest who allied with the bad guys is an heretics that was disavowed by the Church he pretends to serve.
So on top of the rest, you're telling me we have nuanced storytelling about religion? But wait, there's more!
On top of that, the tough woman we have as a female lead struggles with intimacy despite slowly falling in love! We don't have instant lust, we don't have red chibi faces thinking "aaargh i want to kiss him so bad it hurts"! We have slow progression in the story of an already married couple (political marriage) learning to be with each other!
Anyway it's neat.

Was doing some CoB reread and, not sure if is intentional or if I'm reading wrong but I like how in chapter 134 when Rex is still really mad and feeling betrayed, all he seems to remember here is Lyss pointing that gun at him

But then in chapter 151 when Nia asks if he means he's also irrational and unfair when angry, he seems to realize that it wasn't just Lyss pointing a gun at him, it was Lyss (and Shnee) trying to defend both herself and an injured Desmond (whose injuries he knows were technically caused by him)

Is like he finally got the full picture there. Like yeah, what exactly where they supposed to do in that situation? Even if they were friends, of course one would freak out if your friend just suddenly stabbed your other friend, especially if they do it with some supernatural power.
I don't have too much to say bc yeah! That was the intention. :) Rex really felt like a victim in that time, but whether he meant to or not, he really hurt them and they were victims too. He realized he was resenting them for something they had no option but to do.

Me writing a fantasy book: oh no i'm probably making it way too obvious that X character was adopted because their name is from a different language than the names of their family members
Webtoons literally all the time: And then Ivan, Marcel and Ulrich, who are full-blooded brothers, killed each other over their love for the milkmaid Aphrodite, who is from the same geographical area as them, and no one saw anything wrong with it when she ran away with her bodyguard Anakin who is also from the same town and they named their daughter Judith.

Someone or some place is also named a common french word but it sounds ~exotic~, like Soleil (Sun), Lune (Moon), Etoile (star) or just... *drum rolls* Royaume (literally 'kingdom'). The Royaume Kingdom is at war with the country of Soleil whatever are we going to do about it.
(the answer is: send the male lead, a dark haired man related to the royal family but not the main line, who was so violent and such a proficient killer in previous battles that he is nicknamed the cold blooded demon / the merciless demon / the blood thirsty demon / the demon of war)
(cue the heroine thinking back of the time she met him outside of work and thinking 'actually he kinda looks like a dog/cat', complete with chibi pic of the guy with dog/cat ears)
If you're ever worried about the quality of your writing, go read a few (frankly pretty much interchangeable) webtoons.
After a few things like "His transformation is into a [colour] [animal] so people call him *dramatic pause* The [Colour Animal]", and "all noble children must attend [specific school] or be exiled, by law *a few chapters later* here's a minor antagonist noble child who does not attend the school [no legal consequences mentioned]" you'll feel much better.
