Astarionâs head tilted slightly as he looked at Hatty, curiously examining the little girl and quickly noting the vampiric features.
At least he wasnât the only vampire in this forest.
Now, all he had to do was convince the ghost not to rope him into a contract.
Astarion looked at the contract he was handed with a scrutinizing lens, taking note of any detail for a loophole.
Heâd rather not do any chores for the imposing specterâŚnor would he like to turn to ash in the sunlight. So, he was going to take his sweet time reading the thing for any loophole he could use to outsmart the ghost.

Unfortunately for the elf, there didn't seem to be any apparent loopholes--the contract seemed pretty straightforward. He was to do tasks for Subcon Forest's ghostly ruler, and the ghost held onto his most prized possession as collateral.
The Snatcher may have been many things, but he wasn't careless--he took great pride in his legal skills and the contracts he dealt; intimidation alone didn't always work when it came to cowing his would-be contractors. So here he was now, waiting for his latest errand boy to be to realize that and just sign the contract already.

Astarion did a slight double take at the little girlâs voice, briefly thinking that it was his own sister. Though those thoughts went away when he actually saw the relatively human girl (he couldnât be too sure in a place like this, or with the experiences he lived through).
However, he chuckled a bit at Snatcherâs statement.
âOh, donât worry. I donât bite, weâre all friends here.â Astarion reassured in the flamboyant voice he used as a mask, trying to hide the hint of nervousness as he dealt with the ghost.
Heâd rather not put his name on the equivalent of a magicless warlock pact.

âWell, itâs good to see that youâre above kidnapping.â Astarion remarked calmly, looking up at Snatcher.
âUnfortunately, Iâve only got the clothes on my back and a dull dagger.â The elf stated before looking away. He wasnât exactly lying either (well, he lied about the dagger being dull, but that was besides the point); neither him or the spawns were stupid enough to bring anything valuable with them.
He took a breath, looking over the contract again.
âSadly, I donât think this contract applies to me. I hardly have any sort of trinket on me.â

âAnd letâs run through a hypothetical and say this contract doesnât have anything remotely similar to a prized possession, what would you take instead?â Astarion asked, figuring he somewhat had the upper hand, after all, he didnât have an item like that.
His âprized possessionsâ were people; hisâŚâsiblingsâ who became bonded with him through their shared affliction.
He adjusted his body, standing up straighter like how he would when he would give verdicts on his cases two hundred or so years ago (he was surprised he still remembered that, maybe it was muscle memory).

âCould we define âprized possessionâ just to make sure weâre on the same page?â Astarion asked calmly, using his own knowledge of the law to try and talk his way out of this wretched contract because heâd rather not put his name on something he didnât want to sign.
He was both annoyed and impressed at how well written the contract was, it almost reminded him of his days as a magistrate when he had to argue and outsmart his coworkers in order to get what needed to be done.
How far he fell, now using his skills to get out of being a maid to a supernatural being.

Baldur's Gate 3: Astarion Prompts
Part I An assortment of dialogue lines taken from the character Astarion in the game Baldur's Game 3. Adjust as necessary to fit pronoun and/or descriptor. In case of Multimuse, don't forget to specify which one/s. Reblog, please do not repost or add.
â You can kill it, can't you? Like you killed the others. â
â I was hoping for a kind soul. â
â Let's try to keep that lovely neck of yours in one piece, hm? â
â And to think I was ready to decorate the ground with your innards. Apologies. â
â I'm out of wine and flowers, so I hope an introduction will suffice. â
â Is that so? We clearly move in different circles. â
â You know, I was ready to go this alone, but maybe sticking with the herd isn't such a bad idea. â
â Wait, that's it? 'You're doomed, sorry,' and then off to the next adventure?â
â My my, you've been busy. â
â Curling up in the dirt and resting is... a little novel. â
â You sleep. I'll keep watch. â
â We're all doing surprisingly well, given the circumstances. â
â I am open to suggestion. Knives, poison, strangulation - whatever you'd prefer. â
â If the last day taught me anything, it's that the impossible is more likely than you think. â
â Quite a sight. The stars, I mean. I could take or leave your chin. â
â Good. I don't want you to run off just yet. â
â I'm not easily impressed by people, but you're stronger than I gave you credit for. â
â You have your charms... more than you think. â
â No, no - it's not what it looks like! I swear! â
â It's not what you think - I'm not some monster!. â
â No, I needed you to trust me. And you can trust me. â
â I need you alive. You need me strong. â
â I shall be gentle as a babe. â
â Shouldn't take long. So many people need killing. â
â This is a gift, you know. I won't forget it. â
â Good morning. How do you feel? â
â Someone - or something - wants me alive. They've changed the rules. â
â As for my other quirks - well, we can figure those out in time. â
â I was worried people might turn up with torches and pitchforks. Although there's still time. â
â We're bound together, no matter what comes. â
â There now, we're all friends again. â
â Oh, you're such a sweetheart. â
â I'm here in the spirit of openness and honesty, to work together as a team. â
â I've never killed anyone! Well, not for food. â
â Do you think you could trust me just a little further? â
â I only need a taste, I swear. â
â Let's make ourselves comfortable, shall we? â
â Oh no. Something's terrible happened! â
â You're - you're here! Thank goodness, I was worried about you. â
â I understand you're upset, but let's not get carried away. â
â I can fight with all my weapons - teeth included. â

Petras scoffed at himself.
âMy, my, I seem to be an ill-mannered one,â Petras chided himself as he shifted his body to appear more confident (like how Cazador taught him to). âMy name is Petras.â
Despite the seemingly calm and confident demeanor, his eyes kept shifting around the underdark, keeping an eye out for any dangers that could hinder both his and Sebastionâs ability to return back to safety.
The underdark felt so different compared to the last hundred or so years of his un-life.
For starters, there was a lot more strangers in his life, and they were people instead of targets or food that he had to bring back to his master. Along with that, he didnât have to worry about the sun (although the creatures in the underdark were still a massive threat).
He also didnât have a master controlling him like a puppet on a string, and that had to be the best part.
Petras had taken up monster hunting, he figured he could put some of his skills in fighting to good use (not to mention the adrenaline rush was an amazing feeling for him), he mentally reminded himself to thank Violet for the suggestion when he ever found the wandering bard.
Though, the business came with some quirks, such as meeting someone new on the road.

Petras smiled, appreciating the fact that Sebastian was somewhat cooperative.
âItâs dangerous to be out here by yourself.â He stated as he motioned the area around them. âThe underdark has a lot of threats. Do you want me to walk you back?â

âAhâŚfigured as much.â Petras muttered awkwardly, a part of him wished there was a sun to walk into because this interaction was giving him psychic damage because why is socializing so hard now???
Anyways, that was besides the point.
He needed to make sure this vampire spawn wasnât running away like the others did.
âMy name is Petras, your name?â He asked, trying to keep the conversation going.

Petrasâ focus completely went to the spawn in-front of him as his mission went further back into his mind.
He wracked his brain to see if he recognized the spawn in front of him before figuring that Astarion was right and that he wasnât gifted with either intelligence or good memory.
âHello, what are you doing so far from our settlement?â Petras tried to seem confident, but it felt odd to speak to someone he wasnât trying to bring back to Cazador. Honestly, the slightly unfamiliar social situation made him feel weird, it felt like his tongue was too big for his mouth and the words werenât coming to him.

Petras noticed the other one quickly, decades of abuse and his line of work would heighten oneâs senses beyond what vampirism would do.
However, most of the imprisoned spawn wereâŚwell, friendly wasnât the best word, level headed was perhaps better.
Petras let out a huff of relief, thankful that it wasnât vampire hunters trying to snuff out theirâŚcamp? (No, too big for a camp, itâs more like a settlement).
