You seem to be doing a lot of multi day shoots for PT episodes recently. I remember when you first did it for your nhs video and said it was a one-off, so i’m just wondering what’s caused you to be (seemingly) happier spending far more time shooting the episodes.
It's a few factors.
Sometimes the Little Spirit that brings me my creativity has big ideas. People are signing up to my Patreon and my Nebula page too, so budgets can expand - it's not right for me to keep that money, I want to put it on screen where people can see it.
Also, this time it came down to a choice to do a 2 day shoot that we'd be rushing like mad, or a 3 day shoot that would be a gentler pace, so to create a nicer working environment for the crew I chose to do a 3 day shoot. More expensive, but makes people happier!

As you are a creator with YouTube, Patreon AND Nebula, you might be able to answer a question I had for some time now: which one is the best way to support you? Which of these (or maybe other ways I haven't thought about) gives the best fan-money-input to crator-money-reception?
I think I heard someone say something like, giving the lowest tier on Patreon still helps more than watching every video on YouTube with ads on, but I'm not sure if that was because ads pay very little money and YouTube takes a cut or something like that or more because having monthly pledges on Patreon is better for planning or if it's just on principle because relying on YouTube is bad. And it doesn't tell my anything about how nebula compares.
I really love your videos and I'm finally in a place financially where I can support my favorite creators, but I'm unsure what is the best way. If I give you money, I want that money to go to YOU, not some greedy corporate bastards
It depends what kind of fan you are really!
If you're just here for the show and the fun, watching and sharing is great! You're right though - as an educational channel I get very little from ads!
If you're the kind who just wants to support me for nothing in return, then Patreon is super! Patreon take 5% of what you pledge, but since patrons tend to stick around a long time that's a great way to help me out with day to day expenses and short-term stuff.
If you're the kind who wants to help grow my career to the next step and you enjoy getting something in return, then signing up to Nebula using my link is awesome. You get everything on Nebula, and I get a cut of that subscription fee, and it keeps Nebula happy which means I can keep pitching them stuff like plays and movies etc.

New Philosophy Tube Dropping in May
Tumblr media
The next episode of Philosophy Tube is gonna be very special I'm travelling back in time to chat to my past self, and it does not go well... More pics on my Patreon now!
I also want to say a special thanks to you all on this one. Today we cross-shot a dramatic scene with three cameras, a dedicated sound engineer, a hair and makeup artist, a professional actor, plus me. We had a full hour lunch break and everyone got paid a pro rate. I'm proud of the production quality we're able to achieve on Philosophy Tube and, I hope, of the way the crew get tret - that's super important to me. When patrons and Nebula subscribers trust me with their money it's important to me that it goes on the screen.
So thank you. This kind of thing just would not be possible without audience support - Patreon subscribers and Nebula subscribers - because advertising doesn't pay for quality like this.

Albaharu on Youtube made this really cute Shadowheart/Nocturne animation. I know that you look at a fair bit of fanart and thought you might want to see it (if you haven't found it already): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hEgvZm1rPM
Awwwwwww!!!

update on this: my character is a spoiler so apparently they want to wait until very close to the thing actually coming out before I can announce it, which is fair
Hi!!! Any idea on the timeframe in which you’ll be able to tell us about your new huge project? So excited for you!!!!!
I emailed them earlier today to ask but haven't heard back yet

No need to answer this one, but I ran into you in London yesterday (you waved at me to stop me from walking into traffic) ! I was too surprised to say anything coherent, so I have to say now : big fan of your videos and of your work as a lollipop lady !
Haha, thank you so much! I'm glad you didn't get squashed by that truck, I'm sorry, it wasn't really any of my business but it looked like you were right about to step out in front of it!

you should do more college appearances!
I would actually shit myself (positively) if you came to my school
I do get a lot of invites to do that sort of thing, but they usually want me to talk about being 'famous trans person' and I prefer to take public speaking opportunities that allow me to focus on my acting work. They're also surprisingly difficult to organise cause students are very busy and sometimes the person who emails me from the Student Union gets replaced by someone else a few months after reaching out and we have to start all over again. I'm not opposed to it though, if the right offer came along I'd love to!

If it's okay, can you share some advice from previously "internet famous" people? I have a tiny bit of clout somewhere and it did take me a while of active effort to stop obsessing over "but does the number go up"
Most of the ones I talk to seem to take a lot more holidays and shag a lot more now than they did when they were internet famous

Do you have a lot of acting roles for 2024? Any other plans for the rest of the year? Travel?
A fair few voiceover roles, and Dracula's Ex-Girlfriend of course. The back half of the year is looking pretty quiet at the moment because the industry is still in a very tough spot so I'm hoping to use that time to make behind-the-scenes connections in the USA. The producers of [SUPER REDACTED] say they want me back for the next one, but I haven't signed a contract for it yet and if it does end up happening I don't know whether we'd be shooting at the end of this year or the beginning of 2025.
Other than that, I'd like to take a holiday this year. I didn't last year, and I tried to earlier in Spring but it ended up being overshadowed by having to deal with a stressful tragedy the entire time. So a break would be nice. Especially since if I do come back for more [SUPER REDACTED] I expect that'll be an action-packed shoot!

How does it feel to have so many fans
It's nice! It's lovely that there's a community of kind people who take an interest in what I do, enough to pay my rent! It's also a responsibility: I work hard to make people feel welcomed and valued if they come up and say hello or want a selfie or something. And it's also something that I know won't last forever. I like chatting to people who "used to be internet famous" because I know that'll be me someday and I want to be prepared to let go of fame gracefully when it's my time.

Possibly not a good question but did you always like philosophy? I've always been really interested in it but my first college philosophy course was way, waaayy too much like math for me to be able to get it...
Yeah I first started studying it at 16 or 17 cause I liked the teacher taking the class and I discovered I liked it and had a knack for it. I didn't know what it was before then

thank you (& November & Devon) for talking about the case report on TrashFuture! I can’t make myself read the thing (plus I have uni essays to write so don’t have the time) but now I can explain why it’s shit to my parents
and thank you all for what you said at the end - it was really impactful & made me cry. I’d already pledged to myself not to become another one of those statistics but hearing that from three people I look up to helps to cement that commitment to live even though things are fucked
I was proud of that episode, I think we did some moral good by making it if nothing else. I'm glad it's a useful resource for you
