Okay! For those who were wondering about alternatives to Google Docs, I think I found pretty much the perfect option: Ellipsus

Besides being online and collaborative like GDocs, a few things I've liked about it so far:

It has a drafts feature, which you can use to track and merge revisions to your doc OR you can use them as sub-documents to store things like your bible--character info, notes, scenes, whatever OR you can break down your story into chapters

Strictly anti-AI, and wanting you to own your writing 100%

Has a built in writing timer, and a focus mode (Strips away the UI)

Their plans are to keep this version of the product free, and then create higher end paid versions with more features to maintain a sustainable model that'll keep the product viable. They seem really cool so far. Highly recommend checking them out, if you're in any way interested in degoogling.

ABOUT ME

I'm a creative writer who excels in character-driven narratives set in fantasy worlds. My passions lie in stories centred on Queer BIPOC characters and exploring the complexities of identity and power in fantasy worlds that reflect and reshape our own.

As a mixed-race and queer person (they/she), I bring a deeply personal lens to my work, infusing every project with an attention to nuance, interiority, and the layered intersections that shape people's lives. I work primarily in prose and screenwriting, constantly toggling between longform storytelling and the visual rhythms of film. I'm currently studying creative writing with a minor in film studies, where I'm sharpening my craft and pushing my boundaries with every script, scene, and story draft.

Outside of writing, everything I love fuels my creative fire: reading fantasy fiction with characters I wish I'd had growing up, baking as if it's a sacred ritual, delving deep into the narrative choices of games, and analyzing the emotional arcs of film and television. as well, I’m a proud, loud fan of the animated Barbie Cinematic Universe—because camp, colour, and unapologetic femininity deserve scholarly analysis and fan art.

My work is shaped by a desire to see the margins moved to the centre, where Queer BIPOC characters are not just present but powerful, messy, magical, and deeply human. I believe in worldbuilding that mirrors reality not by replicating its hierarchies, but by daring to imagine new ways of being.
