– Most Wanted Sighting in Mexico City
CASE LEVEL: Three
POINTS REQUIRED: Three Hundred
OVERVIEW:
Raymond Vance aka “Rune” has been on MACUSA’s Most Wanted List for the last two decades. Arrested for the vicious attack on Muggleborn Refugees in Port Steward in 1998, Vance was the first, and one of the few high ranking NBO members ever to be arrested. Two months after his arrest however, he escaped from prison, and has yet to ever be seen again. It is believed he has helped the NBO coordinate several other attacks in the last twenty years, but so far he has been able to successfully evade capture.
This morning, Chief Lin of the Pacific Squad received news from a former auror well known to the squad, Abel Montero. According to Montero they were recently contacted by an old acquaintance who had been a witness on a case they worked in 1998 that has since been associated with Vance. This case involved a community of Quakers who were exposed to the basilisk hatchings Vance would later use in his attack on Port Steward’s Muggleborn Refugees. Montero will not divulge just who this witness is, as the witness is wishing to remain anonymous. All Montero has said so far is that the witness believes Vance is currently hiding out in Mexico City, and that they’ll be able to arrange a meeting between aurors and the witness, but Montero must be involved in the interview, per the witness’s request.
Even though cases crossing international borders are generally handed over to the Bureau of Covert Vigilance, due to the demands of Montero’s witness, the case has since been handed to the Pacific Squad. Aurors are asked to proceed on this case with extreme caution, as Vance is known to use lethal force when confronted.
PERSONS OF INTEREST:
Raymond “Rune” Vance: The first notable NBO member ever to be arrested. Little is known of Vance’s life prior to the attack he helped coordinate in 1998. According to case records he hid out for some time outside Iowa City before the attack, briefly getting involved with a young no-maj in the area in order to get the boy to help him hide the basilisks. Rune has been linked with up to twenty separate attacks since his escape from prison in 1998, which together have a body count of up to forty-six individuals.
Abel Montero: The only auror still alive that worked the initial case involving the petrified members of the Quaker community near Iowa City. According to Montero, the witness has refused to talk to any one unless Montero is present, and wishes only to speak to aurors and no other government agents.
CHIEF’S NOTES:
If we can manage to locate and capture Vance it’ll be one of our greatest successes yet in finally dismantling the NBO. Please be careful when interviewing this witness, it sounds like they may have been through quite a lot considering how they’re acting, and we don’t want to scare them away before we get the information we need.
- Chief Lin
I’m warning you now, if you run into this asshole he will use deadly force, so make sure that wherever you go down in Mexico City, that you’re ready for anything. Keep your telekits on you at all times, and don’t hesitate to ask for backup if you get into a situation where you’ll need it.
- Deputy Chief Harbird
CASE STATUS: TAKEN (ERIS + BRITTANY)
** This is a New Blood Order related case. The identity of Death has already been discovered, however if you wish to capture him you must spend 75 points.

CASE UPDATES:
NBO Attack on Squib Relations Offices
Current Status: CLOSED
Lead Auror: Brittany Duffy-Zanetti
Assisting Auror: Todd Duffy-Zanetti
Conclusion: After connecting the loose erumpents with the recent attack on Squib Relations, the Duffy-Zanettis would speak with Agent Abigail Langer, who gave them information on the NBO member known as the Fool. After looking over the erumpent case, Langer had surmised the NBO’s smuggler/the fool, had acquired the erumpents for the terrorist organization, before letting them loose in the Valley of Fire State Park after they no longer served a purpose for the group. With this information in hand, the Duffy-Zanettis then spoke with Immanuel Goodfellow, the lone wix witness to the crime. During their interview with the wix, the two aurors discovered Goodfellow wasn’t a witness at all, but rather the Fool himself. With Goodfellow in custody the case is now closed.
Second Tier Reveal: After requesting for a plea bargain, negotiations were then made that Goodfellow would receive a lighter sentence should he hand over information regarding a higher ranked member. To the surprise of everyone involved, Goodfellow revealed his own mother- Diane Goodfellow had been working as the organization’s weapons specialist. He knew nothing further of just what kind of weapons his mother was helping the NBO with, or any other specific details, but Langer was able to determine that Diane Goodfellow is the NBO member she previously identified as Strength. As of now Diane Goodfellow is considered a highly wanted and dangerous individual. Being a former auror herself, Goodfellow is considered to be an expert fighter and duelist, and any auror that crosses her will no doubt experience some difficulty in apprehending her.
Point Rewards:
Sergeant Brittany Duffy-Zanetti (Lead)
+75 points for solving as lead, level two  +30 for connecting the two nbo cases  -40 points spent for uncovering nbo tile
Resulting point rewards: +65
Cadet Todd Duffy-Zanetti (Assisting)
+70 points for solving as assisting, level two  +30 for connecting the two nbo cases  - 40 points spent for uncovering nbo tile
Resulting point rewards: +60

– The Rise of the Church of Hekate
CASE LEVEL: Three
POINTS REQUIRED: Three Hundred Fifty
OVERVIEW:
The Merlinus City Church of Hekate, while it may appear old in appearance, is actually quite a new addition to the city. In fact, churches devoted to the Greek Goddess have mysteriously popped up all throughout the country, although only in the last decade. Despite its recent creation, the Hekatean religion has managed to gain a wide and high reaching following. The religion itself comes with a strict set of guidelines, all designed to “strengthen a follower’s magical connection to Hekate”. These guidelines include a diet void of foods grown or processed by no-maj hands, a weekly prayer routine, and social rules that prohibit followers from marrying and reproducing “outside wixen bloodlines”. Despite its clearly apparent blood prejudice in its guidelines, the church denies any allegations of bigotry, and rationalizes that such guidelines are only suggested and not enforced. Some have even linked the church to the now well known blood purist group, the New Blood Order, but the church has denied any such claims.
Various departments have investigated the church since it first began taking in followers in the late 2000′s, yet none so far have been able to find any criminal wrong-doing by the church or by its various leaders. The Department of Magical Games and Sports, quite oddly, is the most recent government body to investigate the church after one of its employees was approached by several high-ranking members to discuss the possibility of the Church of Hekate sponsoring this year’s national quodpot championship that is to be held in Miami, Fl. As bizarre the offer was, the Department of Magical Games and Sports, began their routine investigation into the church’s tax and financial records, to ensure such a deal could be made. It would be during this look into the church’s records where several inconsistencies were found, involving large amounts of money going in and out of the church on a routine basis. Upon finding the discovery, the Department of Magical Games and Sports quickly passed the investigation over to the Department of Aurors, where it would land on the desk of Chief Lin, as the Church of Hekate’s main headquarters resides in Merlinus City.
Currently, this investigation remains focused primarily on the church’s financial records, and the large amounts of money channeling through it. With the rumors linking the Church of Hekate to the New Blood Order, it is the hope of many that this investigation could potentially lead to an even larger one, one that could finally tie the church to the terrorist organization and lead to the arrest of at least one of the group’s most prominent figures. If aurors manage to do this, it could significantly cut off cash flow to the terrorist organization as well, and lead to a significant victory against them.
PERSONS OF INTEREST:
Pallas Hattori: The younger brother to Pacific Squad’s Eris Hattori, Pallas was the Department of Magical Sports and Games employee who was first approached by the Church of Hekate about sponsoring the upcoming quodpot championship. Pallas has been rather cryptic so far about just how this meeting originally took place, and how he was first contacted by the church. As of now, Pallas is this case’s only person of interest, but it is the department’s hope that with his cooperation additional leads can be found.
CHIEF’S NOTES:
Eris, I’m going to designate you as lead on this case, with the hopes your brother may be more forthright with you than any other auror. I have tried to reach out to him personally to at least get the names of those he talked to from the Church, but didn’t find much success.
- Chief Lin
Sierra, I’m going to give you assisting, just because it’ll mean I can drop off both cases at once without having to move around the bullpen.
- Deputy Chief Harbird
CASE STATUS: TAKEN (ERIS + VICTOR)
** This is a New Blood Order related case. If you would like to unlock the identity of The Hierophant, each player must spend 75 points. The players and admin will then coordinate how to best have their aurors and The Hierophant come face to face.

– Break-In in San Bernardino
CASE LEVEL: Two
POINTS REQUIRED: One Hundred Fifty
OVERVIEW:
Last week, a break-in was reported to local aurors in a small no-maj suburb of San Bernardino. According to the report, a neighbor witnessed the break-in next door from the window in her backyard. According to her report, at just past midnight a figure she couldn’t identify in the dark levitated a heavy object to the second floor window in the backyard of her neighbor’s home, opening the window with magic, and entering the home. Alarmed by the sight, she rushed out of her house to alert the neighbor, but by the time she made it around the block to the front door of the house and spoke with the owner, the perpetrator had left, as there was no one else found in the house.
The victim of the break-in neglected to contact no-maj authorities, claiming that nothing of value had been stolen and there was no sign of a break-in, but the witness, a squib living in the no-maj neighborhood, reported the crime to local aurors, fearing for the safety of her no-maj neighbors and of the perpetrator returning to break into other homes using magic. Local aurors, however, found no evidence of the break-in, but the witness was insistent that the case be escalated to the Pacific Squad due to the risk of a potential breech of the Statute of Secrecy.
PERSONS OF INTEREST:
Loretta Papadopolous: the neighbor who reported the break-in. Papadopolous is a squib who lives exclusively in the no-maj world, but was alarmed by the seemingly magical nature of the break-in, prompting her to report it to local aurors even when MacPherson refused to report the crime to no-maj authorities.
Malcolm MacPherson: the victim of the break-in, MacPherson has refused to contact any form of law enforcement after the break-in, and claimed to the California aurors that nothing of value was stolen. According to his neighbors, MacPherson is a paranoid and untrusting person who lives alone and keeps to himself.
CHIEF’S NOTES:
I am still not completely convinced that this case should go to us, rather than stay within the California Division, but the California Chief is insistent they’ve explored every avenue they can here. Savage, I’m assigning you as lead, you’ll know of your assisting once Harbird gives you the case file.
- Chief Lin
I threw a paper ball outside my office door and Falconer-Quinn was the first to catch it, so you’ve got assisting, Crow.
- Deputy Chief Harbird

Conclusion: After interviewing the missing boy’s mother, aurors Hattori and Luxford, along with the help of Beast Medical Examiner Maia Goodwin, were able to determine that Jimmy’s mysterious friend Jack, was in fact a godling. Godlings are incredibly rare creatures, native to Poland, who are known for their trickster-like natures. After searching the forest, Hattori and Luxford were eventually able to locate the boy, who was being held hostage by the godling. Auror Luxford was able to successfully subdue the godling, Jack, and take him back to MACUSA, while Auror Hattori took the child to Abasi General. It is still a mystery just how the godling ended up in California in the first place, but the creature has since been returned back to Poland to live with the rest of its kind.

– Beast Fighting Ring in Carson City
CASE LEVEL: Two
POINTS REQUIRED: Two Hundred
OVERVIEW:
Beast fighting is a practice banned in the United States, and has been since 1942. However, “Sentient Beast Fighting Rings” are still allowed by MACUSA law, as its deemed that a fully sentient beast such as a giant, troll, werewolf, or vampire, can voluntarily participate in matches such as a human fighter, and they are within their own right to do so as long as the health of the fighters are put into consideration. It is one of these very fighting rings, operated out of Carson City, Nevada that has recently been brought to MACUSA’s attention for potentially violating MACUSA’s laws and regulations when it comes to operating a sentient beast fighting ring.
“The Old Cannery” is a sentient beast fighting ring that has been operating out of Carson City for the last forty years. Currently run by siblings, Hektor and Cleo Welch, the fighting ring is frequented by wixes from throughout the Pacific Coast, all eager to earn some coin while watching beasts of varying backgrounds go head to head in brutal and death defying matches. Per MACUSA law, the fighting ring is routinely inspected by the Body for the Protection of Magical Species, and in its run has so far passed every inspection, receiving only small citations regarding the facility’s cleanliness and the education of the healers on site.
It was just recently though that one of the ring’s fighters, a vampire by the name of Jasper McDonough, came forward with the claim that not all of the sentient beasts who fight in the ring are doing so voluntarily, and that he witnessed on several occasion werewolves being brought in in strange runed collars on nights where there wasn’t a full moon, as well as chupacabras (who due to their nature are unable to give their consent to fight). McDonough’s claims were investigated by Magical Species, as well as by an employee of the Werewolf Relations Offices, but so far no evidence has been found. McDonough continues to insist however, that foul play is a foot, and after getting the recommendation of Werewolf Relations, the case has been transferred over to the Pacific Squad.
PERSONS OF INTEREST:
Jasper McDonough: Jasper has a rather strange and storied history with the Department of Aurors. He was an auror himself for the department back in the early 1880′s, prior to his being bitten. At the time he was considered a well regarded auror and held the rank of inspector for the infamous but since retired “Western Frontier Squad”. Shortly after being bitten, he would abandon his post as auror, and fall off of MACUSA’s radar for some time. Due to his past experience with law enforcement and with numerous fighting arenas, his word is one most MACUSA official’s trust, but the issue has been that there’s been little evidence to back it up.
Marleigh McMahon: Part of the reason why this case has even found its way to the Pacific Squad is due to the help of McMahon. They, along with three other employees of the Body for the Protection of Magical Species, conducted an investigation into the fighting ring in question, but were unable to find any evidence to support McDonough’s claims. McMahon, however, does believe McDonough’s claims hold enough weight to be investigated fully by a team of aurors, and sent in the official request for the case to be picked up by the squad.
Hektor and Cleo Welch: The siblings who own and operate “The Old Cannery”. The Welches are currently unaware of the exact reasons behind the investigation, and as far as they know the investigation done by Magical Species was part of a routine inspection. The Welches are not unknown by the Department of Aurors, as both have a rap sheet within the system, with crimes ranging from petty theft to exotic beast smuggling. The last crime either was convicted of was ten years ago.
CHIEF’S NOTES:
If McDonough is to be believed, then we have a very grave situation at hand here, one involving several individuals likely being held against their will. Try to be as discreet as you can when investigating the arena itself and its owners, the last thing we want them to know right now is that we may be onto them. If you should like concealments, I’ve alerted Trixie that you may need their assistance.
- Chief Lin
Of course it’d be McMahon. Tell that asshole I said hi, yeah? And that they better not skip out on my next party, or else I’ll quit inviting them.
- Deputy Chief Harbird

Lead Auror: Eris Hattori
Assisting Auror: Victor Sierra
Conclusion: After investigating the gulch the “Green Lady” was sighted in, aurors Hattori and Sierra discovered the slain body of a missing tourist. It was determined that the “Green Lady” was not a spirit, but rather an onryō, a non-being related to a dementor. Onryōs are summoned to enact revenge on those who commit dark acts, it was believed that the slain tourist summoned the onryō herself in her dying moments. After further investigation by the Hawaii Auror Division and the Japanese Department of Aurors, the tourist’s murderer was eventually caught and apprehended. Once the murderer was caught, no further reports of the onryō were ever made.
