National Aviation Day
The National Aviation Day (August 19) is a United States national observation that celebrates the development of aviation.
National Aviation Day
Begins
August 19, 1939
Date
August 19
Next time
August 19, 2019
The holiday was established in 1939 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who issued a presidential proclamation which designated the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday to be National Aviation Day (Mr. Wright, born in 1871, was still alive when the proclamation was first issued, and would live another nine years). The proclamation was codified (USC 36:I:A:1:118), and it allows the sitting US President to proclaim August 19 as National Aviation Day each year, if desired. Their proclamation may direct all federal buildings and installations to fly the US flag on that day, and may encourage citizens to observe the day with activities that promote interest in aviation.

AMT Day 2018
Today is the 150 year anniversary of the birth date of the father of aviation maintenance. Charles Edward Taylor built the engine for the Wright Flyer in 1903, IN ONLY 6 WEEKS. He was born in Cerro Gordo, Illinois on May 24, 1868. He was a bike mechanic, a tool maker and builder of farm machinery. Charles E. Taylor was one of a kind. He was the first, last, and only bicycle mechanic to be put on such a high pedestal in the aviation maintenance sphere. That single achievement will almost certainly never be surpassed, especially by someone who is NOT an AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN. P.S. For all you auto mechs, bike techs and tool makers out there who're inspired by this story, the answer is an emphatic "NO!". You will have to consult and follow strict FAA rules before you get your greasy hands on an airplane or aircraft engine. But, feel proud on this day when the ancestry tree shows that we are all brothers. We keep them flying safely. Happy AMT Day
Here are some suggested ways to celebrate AMTs on any day from the Aeronautical Repair Station Association folks at http://arsa.org: (1) Talk with fellow technicians, colleagues and friends about how they became technicians. Ask what inspires them about the work. If you hear a great answer, send it to ARSA. (2) Plan a visit to a local school or invite students to tour your facility. Show off for a day, maintenance work is interesting an important. Take some pictures and send them to ARSA. (3) Hold a screening (or send around) the association’s short documentary “You Can’t Fly Without Us – The World of Aviation Maintenance.” (4) Support industry events, particularly those that showcase the talent and skill of technicians. This year’s Aerospace Maintenance Competition just wrapped up in Orlando, check out the highlights of the event and see how you can get involved next year. No matter how you celebrate AMT Day, it’s a small bit of well-deserved recognition. Thank you for your hard work, dedication and support. The world can’t fly without you
