Walking closer, Tommy reached up to grasp the side of her face. Noting the softness of her skin, how his fingers felt against her hair and for a moment the frustration melted away.   “How could I forget? I have a whole fucking family to remember. To fight for. To make good for, do you think I need you to remind me?” Backing off slightly, his hand slid down to caress her shoulder, fingers tightening around her gently. “Go home, take Charlie and I will be there soon.”

          A soft sigh fell past her lips. She knew her husband to be a            reckless man. Making leaps and bounds, hiding in the shadows           to make deals. She knew what she had walked into. Finally she           nodded, leaning close to press her lips to his in a gentle kiss.            “I’ll wait up for you,” she said softly before turning to leave.

            She glanced behind her. A clever little smile pulling at the edges of             her lips. “Can you now?” Despite her question, she made no effort             to adjust her clothing. “Does that bother you, Mr. Shelby?”

            She thought for a long moment. Thought about not leaving him.            She knew leaving him alone to his thoughts could be a dangerous            thing. But in the end she decided against it. “Very well,” she said             softly. “If you have a change of heart and wish to find my company,            you know where I am.” She then rose from her seat beside him, and             without so much as another word or glance to him, left the room,             closing the door rather roughly behind her.

            “Funny,” she replied dryly. “Because knowing you I would             think you would believe otherwise.” She knew no one crossed            him without risking him going after them for whatever wrong             they had done to him. And if that was not justice, she did not            know what was.
