Two days ago my worst nightmare happened. Sunday 7/24/16 I loaned my horse, Cali, out to a friend for a rodeo drill team practice as a back up. I was working so she and her boyfriend came and picked Cali up and were driving an hour and a half away to practice. On the way there, a driver ran a stop sign going very fast and smacked into the side of their truck, on my friend’s side. This caused the trailer to disconnect from the truck, break the tow chains, and flip over. To get the horses out (Cali and my friend’s horse Tucker) crews had to cut the top of the horse trailer off. They had to use the jaws of life to get my friend out of the truck. She was life-flighted to the nearest hospital. She has fractures in her upper back, and a lot of cuts and bruises and her boyfriend broke his wrist and cut his hand. As for the other car, the driver was air lifted to another hospital and his passenger died on impact. Our horses were seen on sight by a vet and then emergency transported to Oregon State University Vet Hospital to be treated. Both horses have lacerations on their right hind legs, in places they go down to the joint. Cali had to have surgery for that and an 8 inch laceration on her stomach that is prone to a hernia. The tendons and joints aside from being exposed look in-tact, and if everything goes well and without infection, she may only come out of this with concern for arthritis in her joints. So all we can do is hope for the best.
@theacademicequestrian is the best person to contact about the breed
Hey, is there anything at all you can tell me about the Peruvian Paso? I started working with a Peruvian Paso about a year ago (she had a nasty temperament so she kinda stayed in the field for a couple years; her name is My Golden Star aka Bruja, Witchy Woman, the Witch, etc) and I love her with my whole heart! Problem is, except for breed history, there isn't much information about obscure breeds about.
Hi, there!
Unfortunately, I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t have a lot of experience with the Peruvian Paso. I’ve only seen a handful of them over the years, and mostly at State fairs. They’re not a very popular breed in my neck of the woods.
With that said, virtually all I can really talk about is the breed history and how it pertains to Iberian horses lol.
Is there anything in particular that you want to know? I like a good research project, and don’t mind delving into the breed a little to pull some stuff out for you.
The one thing that’s kinda funny, though, is everything I’m reading says that Peruvian Pasos are supposed to have good quality temperaments.
Have you considered contacting the Peruvian Paso breed associations and asking for information? Most breed registries are happy to send over resources, and they can help point you in the right direction.
Also, just a gander in the Peruvian Paso tags on tumblr indicates that there other other people with experience with the breed – you may want to connect with them! :) Some people include: @theacademicequestrian @i-am-me1993 @thebayroan @peanutbutterbuckskin
I love this guy so much. Hes such a cool cucumber. Shaved his ears and chin for the first time, as well as his legs. Acted like I'd done it everyday his whole life. Also his new saddle is a tad wide up front but fits well otherwise. He'll grow into it nicely.
Corey: Hey do you want to get some orange comes Me: YESSS!!! Me: oh wait, were you talking about for Flint to play with or for the new trailer. Corey: ... Me: because you know Flint's favorite color is orange and he needs more toys. Corey: ...for the trailer. Me: [picks up three, two for the trailer and one for Flint]
Reconnaissance mission for Flint yesterday. Hubby had to jump thr back fence to recover Flint's toys. Hed thrown his hula hoop, jolly ball and apparently popped and threw his beach ball over the fence. Recovered everything.
