[BEGIN LOG]

“You’re with Imperial Intelligence." 

[shuffling]

"That’s correct. You’re every bit as sharp as they say.”

“Can you tell me what this is about so I may return to my actual debriefing?" 

[more shuffling]

"Quite. [cough] We recently came across some very interesting data regarding a certain team of Republic Black Ops soldiers. One such soldier, a Tagrin Kargita, somehow snaked his way into your squad over a year ago, right before the start of your operation. Mere days ago the same landed safely back in Republic space. [pause] Captain Bryde, were you aware your team member was a Republic spy?” 

"So this is an interrogation." 

"In your report, you detail the unfortunate deaths of all your fellow pilots except one individual under a name suspiciously non-existent in our Imperial records. This individual reportedly helped you stay alive for months through several pirate raids, and eventually leading you to secure the objective, your own words, before somehow mysteriously disappearing." 

"You seem to already have all the answers, why am I here?" 

"Then you know what this implies. Aiding Republic spies is a very serious charge, Captain." 

"You didn’t call me here to have me tried for treason. Intelligence wouldn’t bother with such a trifling matter. What do you want from me?" 

"Very astute. See, normally you’d be right. However, I think you’ll find we can turn your [pause] unfortunate situation into a mutually beneficial one. You’re young, your family is decently respectable and your service record is impeccable. A misstep like this is very unbecoming of such an unflinching patriot. We can keep your reputation spotless if you hand us one thing." 

[chair scraping against floor]

"How dare you!?" 

"Oh please. Without our help, you’ll be facing public humiliation and defamation, and let’s not get into the horrors you’ll be putting your child through.”

“And what do you intend to do with it? Some kind of twisted experiment research?" 

"Promising progress is being made in the Eugenics Programme. There’s always a use for sleeper agents [pause]. We wouldn’t want to waste an asset." 

"Absolutely not." 

"You’d throw both your lives away?" 

[pause]

"Let me bargain." 

"Oh? I’m all ears." 

"I will not give it up. However, if it turns out my child displays an aptitude for your particular [pause] trade, you may recruit them when they’re of age." 

"Intriguing. However we wouldn’t be gaining much if they don’t, now would we?" 

"Indeed you wouldn’t." 

[shuffling]

"Consider your records sealed, Captain. We will be keeping an eye on you and yours. A pleasure doing business with you."
