Do you know how your parents met?
#they were classmates and have known eachother since they were about 11#they were reasonably friendly acquaintances but by no means best friends#after school my mother went off to university and my father joined the merchant navy#when he got bored/lonely at sea he started writing to his old school mates and my mum was the first to write back#they fell in love through their letters to one another#and got together officially as soon as my father finished his service and came home#he proposed on the steps of Notre Dame Cathedral and they'll have been married 38 years this September

when I was a kid I read a sci-fi story where some researcher discovers that all crocodiles since prehistory have had the same congenital heart defect, so they set about curing it. when they do, suddenly their research specimen starts getting stronger and healthier and growing rapidly and developing new appendages, and it turns out all crocodilians were actually stunted sickly forms of dragons. that story really stuck with me because it's basically an expression of the "what if I went to the doctor and they discovered I was deficient in one special vitamin and then I took a pill and all my problems and ailments vanished immediately" fantasy.
unrelated, I started taking daily antihistamines this month for the first time in my life,
#holy shit ive read that story too!#cannae remember the name of it for the life of me#but it was in a schlocky charity shop paperback collection of short stories#each one more wonderful and ridiculous than the last#there was one about a guy who just turns into a dog one day kafka-style#and hes so fuckin nonchalant about it made me laugh to the point of tears#this is all wildly unrelated to the original post i realise#im just caught up in recognising the plot of that story lol

#i gave up my seat right at the front of the top deck of the bus (i.e. the best seat in the house) today#there was a super cute family - a beautiful woman with her mother and her wee son who was maybe about 2 y.o.#i noticed them eyeing it up and asked if they wanted to switch#let me fuckin tell you the look of joy on that little boy's face made my entire day!#he was buzzing!#absolutely on cloud nine in that front seat looking out the window with his tiny mind being blown by watching the world go by#always feels nice to do a little good deed for someone else#i couldn't stop grinning myself the whole way home
