Ok I'm not a big Roger fan (I dislike him heavily) but I absolutely agree w/op about this
Just a thought I had the other day, because this blog's entire purpose is for me to spout off whatever silly thoughts I have
(Stupid phineas and ferb micro-theory/headcanon under the cut)
We're all familiar with the clear neurodivergence that belongs to Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
That's not hard to see obv
But no one mentions that his brother, Roger, the mayor of Danville and representative of the Tri-State Area,
Is the same.
Sure, they hold themselves in wildly different ways, but I get the feeling that Roger's ability to act confident and hold himself so well compared to his brother is definitely a result of the differences in their treatment during their upbringing.
Most notably, though, where we see Roger acting, perhaps a bit 'abnormally' by social standards, is in that mailman episode, where the man orders empty cardboard boxes, specifically delivered for his cat to play with.
Tumblr media
Sure, it could be a silly gag, perhaps a bit, because, well, he's the mayor, he can do whatever he wants, but it could also be that the man is so genuinely anxious and awkward in real social situations, that he'd sooner pay shipping for an empty box than actually walk into a store to buy or pick up some cheap cardboard.
(I didn't think of this second point until recently, but the flashback where his child self took out a marker and signed 'his' belongings could also allude to an innate need to keep track of his stuff as well as a general disdain for sharing.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And because neurodivergence impacts each individual's behavior in a unique way, Roger's mannerisms and abilities may have made him appear "favorable" or more put together or more respectable than his big brother.
Maybe both were gifted kids, but only one of them was provided with the proper support he needed to flourish, while the other was left to fall on his own.
Anyway, Roger Doofenshmirtz is also autistic just like Heinz, I will be taking no criticism

The fact that I can fully see Perry actually going along with it because that's just how they work. They have to do the routine.
“Ahh Perry the Platypus you’ve finally made it!”
“…”
“Oh right, you’re probably waiting for the trap to spring. Well I’m kinda suffering from budget cuts right now so instead of like a regular trap I had to buy this toddler car seat from Walmart. So like uh if you can just sit in it and uh, don’t forget to fasten the seat bel- yeah there you go, see it fits perfectly! Thanks Perry. Anyways-“

I’ve noticed that Dr. Doofenshmirtz only thinks he’s handsome when there’s another one of him around.
Think about it! When he clones his own head, they both immediately say “Well hello handsome!” When he explains who he is to 2nd Dimension Doof, they’re all like “that explains the handsomeness.” And don’t forget all the copies he made of himself to stand in lines- they were complementing each other instantly!
On the other hand, when he’s alone Doof seems convinced he’s hideous. There were at least two revenge schemes involving making others ugly so he’d feel better by comparison. And when he accidentally turned himself handsome the first thing he said after he noticed was “I can’t be handsome!”
Plus there’s all his body insecurities: his weight, his slouch, his receding forehead. It’s like he can only feel good about himself when there’s someone who would completely understand- for example, another Dr. Doof!
If you ask me, his constant self-hatred is almost worse than his emotionally scaring backstories! (Almost. I’m not forgetting the raised by ocelots backstory. Or the fact that he lost both his arms somehow). This brilliant inventor, this musical genius, this incredible father, this guy who made his fans laugh for over 104 days, just needs to learn how to build some self love.

rewatching pnf season 1 and here are some of the neurodivergent highlights!
“obsession rocks!!!” said at a moment when candace and stacy were gleefully bonding over their love of the bettys. the joy of new hyperfixation!!!!
“fossils! dun dun dun…” my man lawrence vocal and audio stimming let’s go!
perry crashes in, heinz doesn’t react, perry goes over to heinz and pokes him in the nose, revealing heinz is an inflatable decoy. perry immediately pokes the inflatable nose several more times! autism is stored in the platypus
jeremy tells candace he’ll call her soon, so cancace goes into waiting mode the next morning and tries to find the exact meaning of “soon.”
candace (scared of heights) on a ferris wheel. jeremy asks her what’s wrong and candace wordlessly indicates the drop. she contonues not to speak after jeremy comforts her. loss of speech!
phineas usually displays empathy, but when buford loses biff, phineas shows annoyance and doesn’t seem to empathize. nevertheless, he helps buford both with emotional support and by working to solve the problem. this is because i’m projecting fluctuating empathy onto him and also because empathy ≠ kindness.
baljeet owns a lot of books on a seemingly uninteresting topic (shoelaces). conclusion- he fixated on the topic in the past and got all the information he could find at once!
one of dr. d’s schemes is entirely because he considers the noise outside his building to be too loud and he can’t concentrate. he gets off-topic in conversation and apologizes, blaming his lack of focus on the noise. it’s harder to act neurotypical when you’re sensory overloaded, ok?
at one point heinz tells perry that there’s a tin cup inside his cage for him to play with, specifically because of the sound it makes. perry proceeds to move this tin cup around for a while.
vanessa sensory overloaded by the sound of heinz building vs heinz making incoherent sounds while he builds (vocal stimming!). in a different episode vanessa uses earbuds to deal with her dad making noise.
honorable mention: stacy and candace reading all of sherlock holmes in one night / dressing as the characters the next day

THANK YOU!!! He's literally a genuis, his machines do what they're supposed to, they just backfire.
THIS MAN DESIGNED HIS OWN ARMS AND THEY'RE SO GOOD PEOPLE FORGET THEY'RE PROSTHETICS
All my gripes about Doofenshmirtz aside, it always baffles me when I hear people say he was the "joke" villain, or that he's an incompetent evil scientist.
He was literally #3 on OWCAs most wanted list. THREE. You don't get to be in the top three of ANYTHING without being damn good at it.
Ntm there's an entire movie that proves that if exactly the wrong thing set him off, Heinz could easily take over the entire world. Easily.
Heinz is a genuine fucking genius. He makes machines out of literal scraps in the same way Phineas and Ferb do. He just has like the worst ADHD known to man
