I'm gonna talk about something cute because it gives me an excuse to rewatch stuff.

I think the like Doylist explanation for this is partly that TV shots just generally are closer to show the actors' faces + Bella and Pedro just being close as people, but if you're looking just at text of the show, it's really funny and cute to me how at some point Ellie basically decides that Joel's personal space is also her personal space.

"I just saw you beat a man to death and like twenty minutes ago we were acting like we hated each other but like I'm going to walk six inches away from you so I can annoy you easier."

She smacks him with the tape, basically leans on him to show it to him, smacks him with the magazine. It's so casual.

When he takes the map, she leans right into his space to look at it.

When they get shot at, she squishes in right next to him basically as close as she can get without actually touching him.

When they're doing rifle practice and he takes the gun, she barely gives him room to shoot.

"You're keeping me now, motherfucker, we're cuddling."

I'm such a fucking sucker for the found family trope in movies, especially with its a Dad and Daughter duo. Or just dads who will do anything for their child/gremlin being they found and now must save.

Give me more examples of movies, shows, all media that has these kind of themes please!!!!

I know I’m preaching to the damn choir here but wow. Way to demolish the lingering chances of a meaningfully accurate crows spinoff. I would 100% rather have had them off doing a useless filler quest or have spent the whole time looking for the stupid sword than, hmm, idk, speedrunning all of Crooked Kingdom. What was the reason?!?

I got a bad feeling when I learned Tante Heleen was dead and Pekka had a big role this season and I was right because they absolutely fumbled the bag. Kaz and Jesper have both apparently undergone their entire emotional arcs through the end of CK. Inej is on a boat hunting slavers, but for NO GODDAMN REASON. There must have been people in that writers room with absolutely no regard for the crows at all because cherry-picking the climaxes of CK to have ~fun~ with for three episodes without any of the necessary buildup or context essentially toppled everything we have to look forward to.

As usual, I’m not gonna pretend I didn’t enjoy watching the friendship scenes, or nearly word-to-word accurate recitations of my favorite Kanej moments at face value. But with literally any context they make me furious. Because none of these scenes hold any weight without the context that the adaptation so plainly lacks.

i need season 1.5 of the last of us which will just be 10 hours of joel and ellie exploring abandoned theme parks and museums and playing guitar and telling each other jokes and laughing and stargazing and THEN they can make season 2 and i simply won’t watch it

It’s something about starting out hating each other. Being so annoyed with the mere presence of the other. How there’s that grumpy and pissed off tone of a voice in how they talk to each other. How it’s exhausting for him to be bombarded with questions and how it’s exhausting for her to be constantly brushed off. It’s something about the desperate attempt at not getting attached for him. And if he does, how he tries to stop it by getting rid of her. Something about raising their voices, going to bed angry, and being on each others last nerves some days

To becoming…a family? A fucking family? To living in a community with electricity, hot water, and good meals? To having a house together? Stability? To cooking meals together and waking up to a groggy “morning” every day? How they’d fell asleep on the couch together, Ellie’s head in his lap, watching some cheesy, 80s action movies? How they’d visit the stables together or eat out at the Tipsy Bison some nights. Making snowmen outside, celebrating Christmas or other holidays, or Joel being scared shitless over her first patrol. How they’d hug more often and wouldn’t correct other Jacksonfolk when someone would say “your dad” or “your daughter”. How they lived their lives smiling with each other whenever Ellie would goof off with some anecdote or Joel would crack a joke and Ellie would throw a side eye his way.

It’s how they grew. Shit had me crying earlier. Annoyed and damn near hated each other at the beginning to loving the other so ferociously it’s fucking intoxicating. Damn you Neil Druckmann for creating one of the best relationships out there. wtf
