Maybe a month or 2 ago i started to annotate jjn (esp instances of the number 3 for. Normal and average reasons) (i can be trusted w tsukumojuku i prommy) and then forgot that i. Started annotating that. Need to work on that more

Also I’d love to see the annotations sometime… while I don’t annotate I do take notes as I read in a sort of “liveposting” way but they do tend to yield good results when I look back at them. That reminds me that I really should go back and compile my whole thing about George II childhood neglect…I love Erina but I spent way too long on chapter 1 during my reread where I took notes because I was combing through how she very much favors Lisa Lisa.

Oh yeah the parallels between the situation with Dio and Erina in the coffin at sea and Jorge and Kars on the HG Wells. Those exist. I’m looking back through my first reread and that’s apparently something I caught that I surprisingly haven’t thought about much after that?? Both Erina and Jorge are functionally trapped with some kind of vampiric creature who is set on using them in some kind of way. Kars doesn’t need to feed, but he wants to, as a celebratory gesture to himself. Dio, on the other hand, does need to feed, and he’s doing it out of necessity. Kars could be much crueler to Jorge, Narancia, and Pucci, keeping them captive with him and doing what he pleases, but he doesn’t. Instead, they’re the ones that really captivate him, even with his bitterness towards humanity as a species after Joseph killed his family and sent him to space. Dio could have been kinder, but he’s Dio, so of course he’s going to be an abusive asshole about it all, manipulating Erina until she can no longer really think for herself. With Whitesnake, Kars could have similarly manipulated Jorge, Pucci, and Narancia, but he chose not to. The only one who manipulates anyone’s primary disc is Pucci to make Narancia respect him. Furthermore, there would be no way to stop Kars if he really tried to feed on the remaining crew, similarly to how there’s no way for Erina to stop Dio. While Dio is more of another of the book’s examples of hurt people hurt people, Kars shows the flipside of hurt people help people, which the book also likes to provide examples of. Also, unlike Dio who uses Erina to display his dominance over Johnathan, Kars shows submission when stepping back and letting Jorge lead him. He submits to Jorge as the one running this show.

This one’s a bit looser of a connection than other parallels the book draws but I don’t think there’s nothing here. There’s definitely something here and it fuels the Kars and Dio comparisons later in the book when they do eventually meet.

Is this in the context of jjn or in the context of jjba as a whole? Also there PROBABLY is something there that’s just gotta get dug at a little bit. Sometime a few months back I made allusions to Jorge’s chapters (the even chapters) and the seven trumpets of the apocalypse and I feel like there probably isn’t anything there but it’s worth digging at anyway. For fun and whimsy. <3
