US Federal Bureau of Investigation documents obtained by The Intercept and published at the start of April made for fascinating reading….
As well as proving that the Bureau harassed activists involved in lawful free speech campaigns, the documents – obtained only after a Freedom of Information law suit – suggest that the FBI may have engaged in spying on US citizens at the behest of Israel.

Abby and Robbie Martin speak to Ian Goodrum of China Daily. During the course of their conversation they cover a whole range of issues frequently raised in the US like the ‘social credit system’, 5G, the COVID-19 lab leak theories and draconian surveillance. Ian also explains why he believes the hostilities between the United States have been growing, based largely on ruling class profit motivations, Obama’s ‘Asia pivot’ and Trump’s trade war.

So the GOP-dominated Senate Intelligence Committee says the CIA was right, says the Washington Post. Omitted so far from what I’ve read is any actual reason to believe so…

On this day, 18 April 2001, police in Kabylie, Algeria, murdered a young man named Massinissa sparking a nationwide uprising which became known as the “Black Spring”. Following the killing, protests and riots broke out across the country, demanding democratic rights and cultural rights for Amazigh (Berber) people. The rebellion was only quelled after police killed upwards of 120 people. This is a short article about the uprising written by a participant at the time: https://libcom.org/library/algeria-2001-ulach-smah-no-forgiveness https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1403786713139808/?type=3

On this day, 18 April 1888 the Imperial British East Africa Company was founded in London to run what is now Uganda and Kenya as British colonies. As with all of Britain’s other colonies, the British outlawed homosexuality, and propagated homophobic values. As of 2017, half of all the world’s countries which outlaw being gay, including Uganda and Kenya, were part of the British Empire. On this day, 18 April 1912, miners in Paint Creek, West Virginia, went on strike after employers refused their demand for wages equal to those of other mines. They were joined by miners from nearby Cabin Creek. The stoppage continued for over a year, with many killed in clashes between miners, company thugs and state militia. This is our podcast on the fascinating history of the West Virginia mine wars: https://workingclasshistory.com/2018/06/09/wch-e7-the-west-virginia-mine-wars-1902-1922/ Pictured: Paint Creek miners’ munitions seized by the government https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1404230583095421/?type=3

This is capitalism's vast irrationality and inhumanity in action. Markets and The Economy™ matter more to capitalism than the concrete distribution of resources according to tangible human need.
Resources exist in abundance -- give them to people. Housing sits empty -- give it to people. The rules of the feast table should apply to our economic system -- no one gets seconds until everyone has gotten a plate.
We stand at a crossroads in these chaotic times: socialism or barbarism! The ruling class repeatedly chooses the latter. We need to organize and choose the former!

One thing nobody teaches you is how politicised being disabled is. Your whole existence being called a waste of resources. Your whole worth being boiled down to whether you can work. If you can, you’re not disabled and get nothing. If you’re not, you’re lazy and deserve nothing.
Accessibility is seen as a burden and us demanding too much like the greedy people they claim us to be. No handouts! No Handouts! We are invisible and subhuman. We are the other. We are portrayed as burdens to society for simply wanting to exist in the world as they do.
The ability to live week to week is constantly in jeopardy. Lost jobs from sick days. Rising costs of medical care and accommodations. Your government assistance becomes a talking point and a target. People rallying for you to starve instead of paying any taxes to your care. One day your means to live just disappears without fanfare or your input. ‘Austerity measures’ being levied on us for being ‘leeches’. They might not kill us directly but they don’t care about leaving us to die.
Right to die advocates fighting valiantly for euthanasia but doing nothing about disability rights. Nothing about accommodations. Nothing about accessibility. Nothing about subsidies or in home care. They’d rather give us the ability to die than allow us to live. Because we are tragedies.
Burdens.
