LAYOUT REVIEW TIME BABEY!!!!!!!

First up on the chopping block is .....

LOTUS by like a lot of good creators😄

lotus was an mc hosted by ZeroSR in an attempt to band together the "old gen" of top gameplay creators, and boy did he deliver. the roster on this thing is absolutely fucking insane, stacked with gameplay creators who dominated the scene from the last three years.

I don't really have much else to say let's just get started

FIRST PART - Ilrell (7.5/10)

first part, solid enough cube section from the man himself. The gimmick here was a bit confusing at first, and I'm still a little unsure about the execution of it, but the rest as previously stated is some very solid cube gameplay.

SECOND PART - PARA (7/10)

I'll be real I still don't really get the gimmick in this part but the mini cube is cool enough, pretty average para part, but the pokeballs bring it up a bit.

THIRD PART - SEQUEX (9/10)

if I wasn't gripped before I definitely was at this part. Impressive given it's a filler ship section. the gimmick here is perfectly done no question. PLEASE take notes because this is how you make filler gameplay I'm so tired of seeing the same boring shit for every level no the floating icon on an invisible block isn't cool anymore lagnugg was doing that 3 years ago. That being said it is a filler part so I can't exactly give it a 10, but the execution here really took me aback the first few times.

FOURTH PART - Artu (7.5/10)

Really not much to say I won't lie it's pretty average Artu gameplay Artu swing copter artu cube it would probably be higher but it falls off in quality a little halfway through.

FITH PART - REBIX (10/10)

I'm a shameless rebix simp he is a god among men and you will worship. rebix is the definition of a master of his craft and I think this part defines it pretty well. Not only does he have a sixth sense for composition and repetition but he's able to put it into practice flawlessly every single time. I don't care if I'm just dickriding now the part is simple because every single movement is placed perfectly and only adds to the absolute insanity that is this man's mind for gameplay.

SIXTH PART - Chase - (8/10)

I'm a sucker for chase gameplay but even then I think this part holds it's weight very well in this collab. Chase is an "old is gold" 2.0 creator with a good sense for gameplay turned 2.1 gameplay creator. despite occasionally breaking flow or missing beats seemingly at random the part is still great and his talent really shines through the flaws.

SEVENTH PART - Highjump - (9.5/10)

I think I genuinely jumped when I saw this name on the roster. For those not in the know, Highjump is a living legend in the gameplay community and has all but disappeared in recent years, so seeing this from him was a welcome surprise. Other than the name tied to it, there's nothing really special about this part, merely raw skill and execution with some Highjump duals packaged in. VERY solid part and I'm glad to see the name again after so long.

EIGHTH PART - Marwec - (10/10)

holy shit this part is great. it gives everything marwec has to offer, on top of a flawlessly executed gimmick making it likely my favorite part in the level. When people say marwec is overrated, I can't help but think of parts like this that really do keep him at the top of my list.

NINETH PART - ZeroSR - (9/10)

encapsulates Zero's style incredibly well. I've always loved Zero's ability to integrate wave better than most in his gameplay, and I think this timestamp was perfect for him in that regard. The dual at the end is also sick as fuck and nobody can change my mind

AVERAGE RATING - (8.6)

BEST PART - Marwec

WORST PART - Para

great project and everyone involved honestly made amazing parts. honestly well worth the wait. picked up for sure in the second half, still honestly one of my favorite layouts.

How to not drop the demon you’re grinding (and not lose motivation)

ok so I’ve been seeing this same process happen to literally all of the people I know

someone finds a demon they want to beat

they start grinding the demon

they have a bad experience with the demon

they drop the demon

repeat 20x

sooo

Here’s some stuff that helps me beat demons without dropping them

(please note that I have adhd so you might not relate to some of the stuff I describe)

Chapter 1. Physical stuff

1. Take short breaks

I know this might sound counterintuitive (I mean, if you play the level less you wont beat it as quickly, right??)

but, think about what usually happens if you play a level for too long

you play the level > get mad > you keep playing level > get more mad > you play worse because you’re mad > repeat until you drop the level due hating the level’s guts

and if you’re playing worse because you’re mad, you’re going to take longer with the level, and I’m assuming you don’t want that

I would suggest that as soon as you realize you’re playing worse due to anger, you should take a break until you aren’t angry and then continue grinding.

(and if you are still playing badly, that probably means you should probably stop playing for the day because you’re burning out)

2. Only grind levels you know you can beat

now, this may seem obvious, but I have seen almost all of my friends make this mistake

and that mistake is… *drumroll*

Trying to beat levels that aren’t their skillset and are too hard for them

I have seen SO MANY people think that they could jump to a top 10 from something cataclysm difficulty, hell, even I thought I could do it! But take it from someone who tried to jump to Sakupen Circles from cataclysm, jumping. sucks.

Why does jumping suck you ask?

it doesn’t have quick progress

now I know that sounds weird, but lets be real, you’re probably not gonna like a level if you’re only making progress once every 2 weeks

it’s missing that dopamine rush you get from making progress, and honestly, that completely throws me off tbh

3. LIST PLACEMENTS DO. NOT. MATTER.

I see so many people think that lower on the list = easier extreme = they can beat it

let me tell you this

List placements are based on the average opinion, and I am assuming your skillset isn’t perfectly average

if your skill set is wave and you’re bad at cube timings then you will think that sonic wave is easier than black blizzard, despite blbl being ~30 spots below sw, and vice versa

4. there are extremes other than list demons

not much more needs to be said about this

instead of looking at pointercrate to find extremes, just look through gd/youtube and play ones you find interesting, you’ll have a better chance at finding an extreme that you like if you do that

Chapter 2. Mental stuff

1. Don’t set your expectations too high

This.

I have seen almost all of my friends fall victim to this problem.

When you set your expectations too high, you wont be able to reach them, and if you don’t achieve your goals, it might lead to anger/sadness, and you might end up losing motivation with gd.

also, uhh, this too

1 ½ . Don’t set your expectations too low

If your expectations are too low, you will meet them too fast, and if you keep meeting them too fast, you will get used to achieving goals quickly, and then when you meet your first road block, and you don’t get it quickly like you’re used to, you will lose your temper wayy quicker than normal.

2. You wont become a pro overnight, don’t hope that you will

I know, I know, this is the most overused saying like.. ever, but its true!

you’re not going to become a pro instantly like spaceuk (unless you have savant syndrome or something), skill takes time to build!

and if you hope that you will just magically become a top player then you are just going to be disappointed

practice is the key (I cant believe I just unironically said that *pukes*)

3. it’s ok to take a break

Please, never push yourself too far.

I have seen so many people try to keep grinding and grinding levels despite them being obviously burnt out. Hell, even I have done this on multiple occasions.

Yes, you are determined, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a break every once in a while

remember, this isn’t a competition, you can stop whenever you like.

Extra stuff

Keep calm during grinds

brute force determination is what will get you through the level

only beat levels you want to beat

play on whatever fps you want, ignore what people say

don’t play gd for too long
