My "New" Old Camera
Tumblr media
Hi Everyone,
Normally I am a Nikon guy, I love everything I can get from the company but recently from my amazing grandparents I now own my very first Leica!!! Now for a college student to even have a Leica it isn’t going to be brand new or even ten years old, nope I bought one from 1955. I bought a IIIf screwmount Leica with a Summicron 5cm f/2. I have never shot on a rangefinder camera before so I think it will be interesting learning how to compose my shots without looking through my lens. I am really excited though to try this out, learning something new is something I have always found fun and I hear the image quality from these lenses are unbelievable.
The camera itself I bought from a website http://www.tamarkin.com. They were a pleasure to buy from and extremely knowledgeable on Leica cameras since that is the only brand they sell. Dan the owner of the business was awesome he explained the cameras condition to me and from the photos I saw knew it was the camera for me. The camera came in the mail and it is everything I hoped for.
This weekend is the first time I am going to be able to shoot this awesome piece. Now I just need to go out and buy some film!!!!

Welcome!!!
Hi everyone,
I am Cody Arrington and I currently go to St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.  Being a photographer and a college student, is definitely a struggle to both, but schoolwork does come first. I currently am enrolled as a Biology major and hope to be a dentist.  I know a dentist it’s not something a 20 year old kid would pick first as a potential job, but it is the one I would like to pursue, I have wanted to be one since my freshman year of high school.
As for my photography backround my freshman year of high school I enrolled in a Black and White film photography course and it just took off from there, by the time I graduated from high school I took every photo class the school had to offer and became a teachers assistant in some of the lower level classes.  High school also had for me the photography club.  This was just an awesome experience were a pretty large group of us came together to show photos, take photos, and just hang out.  My freshman and sophomore years I was the vice-president of the club and my junior and senior years I was the president.
Through my four years there I experimented with all kinds of photography, but my real passion is either wide angle or high-speed photography.  Both to me are very technical in the sense of how to control the shoot, and lighting.  But they are also very different at the same time, obviously.
When I shoot wide-angle photography I tend to take photos that are pleasing to my eye it can almost be anything from the coastal shoreline, to an abandoned building are some of my favorite subjects to shoot.  To me the abandoned buildings with all their decay create really interesting textures and colors that you can’t find really anywhere else.  There is growth on bricks and walls that normally would not be there.  When you see your final product it just looks so cool and something that is not easily recreate able.
