Ainsley Whitaker is a man who once lived a somewhat happy life with his mother away from town until one day his ex-fiance betrayed him by shooting him in the head and turning over his mother to the witch hunters. As his mother burned at the stake, she swore vengeance on the people that had killed her beloved son. Such words of wrath then awakened Ainsley from the embrace of Death and gave him a new purpose in life at the cost of clear memories: to offer deals to the most desperate while damning them to the eternal flames of hell.

His memories of the past are quite hazy, and some are missing from the collection. He is, however, very pessismistic about love and practically everything.

As the Conductor, Ainsley is required to offer deals to those who are desperate to get revenge on those who have wronged them or get out of a bad situation at the cost of giving up their place in Heaven. He's summoned to the desperate soul at their darkest hour, and every deal he makes extends his life span by a year. In rare situations, those deals can even save him from Death's door should he come close to dying at the cost of losing some years off of his life span. Currently, his life span is about 100,000 years.
