DEAR PEOPLE COMING BACK FROM NEST

Hey! Hello! Your friendly neighborhood Brush here!

I just wanted to take a moment to reiterate some points and bring up some things about:

Aftercare/drop

Why? Well. It’s always important. But here is your reminder about what Drop is. In a nutshell.

Drop can be defined/explained as a feeling you get when your mood goes from one extreme (in this situation a high) to another (in this situation a low). Note: that *DOES NOT MEAN* you have to drop to a super low. An extreme high to your “baseline” can feel like a drop just the same.

Okay. Now picture it:

You’ve just gotten back from NEST. You’ve finished your drive, flights, et cetera. You get home and settled. And then… well. It settles.

This, by the way, isn’t even accounting for the stuff that happened at the gatheing as you left.

I’ve been to a decent amount and I know that tears are shed, hugs are given, tons of strong emotions are felt as people leave the area.

The second wave can come afterwards though. It may not be immediately when you get home. Maybe it’s the day after. Maybe it’s a few days after. Maybe it’s a week or more after. There is no timeline on it and there is no end point either. It will come and go as it pleases and you have to take care of yourself (and each other) as you go through this.

It will hit some harder. It will hit some in different ways. It may not hit some people at all (seemingly).

Getting back to your normal life outside of a tickle gathering will always be a struggle. Be extra kind to yourself and don’t be afraid to reach out to people. Okay on to the next but.

Aftercare

Remember: aftercare does not stop after a session. It doesn’t stop that day. It doesn’t stop that week even, potentially. Just like drop can come in waves so must aftercare.

One of my favorite ways to discuss/start thinking about Aftercare is in terms of love languages:

Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts.

What are your love languages? How are they expressed to you? How can that translate to your aftercare?

Do Words of Affirmation help? Maybe check in and talk about the weekend with friends who were there. Quality time? Schedule a voice call perhaps. Or spend time with loved ones! So on and so forth.

At the end of the day, I hope you all take care of yourselves. Treat yourself with kindness, with care, with time. And also help others. You’re all in it together, you were all there together, and you can help even now. And you can always reach out to me as well if you’d like. Via messages or asks.

Take care of yourself. It’ll seem counter intuitive depending on your mind but take some time from your apps/websites. Focus on what you do have going on (assuming it’s positive) or just getting through your days without that stressor.

I get it. It can be hard. You’ve possibly got a mixture of jealousy and happiness going on when you see friends, mutuals, or people in general out there seemingly living the absolute best life.

And it is fun (I hope) for everyone! I hope they have a good time and I know deep down you do too.

But just remember: This doesn’t define you as much as it doesn’t define them. Just as you shouldn’t base your worth off of this, don’t go putting them on a pedestal for it either.

I love a mask when tickling.

Any and all kinds work in different ways. Some only cover the mouth, which allows so much focus on a ler's eyes. The slow tracing of their lee with their eyes alone and the excitement when "that" spot is finally found. Wearing such a mask hides your smile, and makes it easier to fall into that of a silent ler. There is no need for words when wearing such a mask, simply cover your face and listen to the most beautiful sound in the world.

Other masks cover the eyes and let the mouth free. A lee is forced to gaze upon your smile, that smirk they've seen all too many times to the point where they know what it means. It'sthat of a shark smelling blood in the water. The grin of someone in complete control and knows they can take their time. A mask hiding the eyes removes that source of knowledge. The only way to know what comes next is watching the hands as they do their work.. . . But by then it's already too late isn't it?

Finally there's my favorite mask. That which hides everything. This mask creates mystery, and it hides your humanity. It hides one's self allowing you to be what ever you want. You are no longer you. You are only the ler. When you put on the mask you don't need to think. You don't need to worry. You just need to do exactly what you want to.
