Since 2010, one day and one beer at a time, I post my notes on beers that I've had and where to find them. I rate beers on a purposefully coarse scale: 4 = Excellent 3 = Good 2 = Mediocre 1 = Bad Who am I?

Lotus Thai Lager on tap at Lotus of Siam in Las Vegas, NV. A 3 of 4. Simple, clean, and delivers what it should. Quite light body with some faint grain/rice sweetness and not much hop presence to speak of. Very light, and honestly something with a touch more bitterness would help with the food/spice.

Tarantula Hill + Ghost Town All Work No Play IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. A pretty standard West Coast IPA -- pineapple and tropical fruit, some orange citrus, and some resin. The body is relatively light and crisp though has some sticky lacing. Wouldn't stand out of a lineup for the style, but it's quite nice.

Moab Brewing Dead Horse Amber Ale on tap at the Cheesecake Factory in Salt Lake City. A 3 of 4. At 5%, it's what you'd expect -- has quite a bit of maltiness to it with some slight roast notes and bready backdrop, and just a hint of body bitterness. Not as amber as I might expect, but has a nice heft to the body for something at only 5%.

Humble Sea + Green Cheek Does This Wetsuit Make My Fins Look Big? TDH Hazy Quadruple IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. At 12%, this is big. Somehow it manages to be balanced? Tons of orange citrus and tropical fruit and some faint herbal notes in the nose. The body is relatively thick and oily at the same time with lots of juiciness and a touch of booze that's hard to hide at this ABV. Not overly bitter, not overly juicy, not too boozy, this is just right.

Offset Oros IPA on tap at Bayou in Salt Lake City. A 3 of 4. Quite good for an IPA at 5% with a nice mix of pine and citrus in the nose. Some tropical fruit is present, too, and there's a bit more body and bitterness to this than you'd expect. Given the ABV limit, this does quite well.

Burgeon + Human People Tank Top & Schwartz Schwarzbier (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. A nice change of pace of style given what you usually see around here, and this delivers a really great version of this style. Tons of malt character, lots of richness, and still 4.3%. Very easy-drinking but has tons of complexity to it, and it's quite enjoyable.

Pure Project Thou$ands of Money Hazy IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. Yeah, this is great. Big mix of tropical fruit throughout -- passion fruit sticks out -- and this also has a nice pine/resin touch in the body. Balanced body with a bit of heft to it but not overly juicy, and this finishes dry and clean.

Modern Times Wizard Blend 2024 The Ultimate Cuvée (Picked up at the brewery itself in Point Loma). A 4 of 4. A big imperial stout that has tons of complexity and this blend is a blend of many previous blends. Very well-balanced and has tons of roast, barrel, bourbon, and vanilla notes in a body that while 14% doesn't taste as big. There's no alcohol harshness nor rough edges on this -- it just works and is excellent. A really great product out of a really great barrel program.

Societe The Apprentice IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Really nice IPA with quite a bit of pine and resinous notes throughout and citrus in the background. Quite high carbonation and some nice slight malt sweetness in the body.

Humble Sea Pool Perms DDH Hazy Double IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. Honestly probably one of my favorite Humble Sea beers in recent memory -- just absolutely bursting with orange citrus, tropical fruit, and so much more. The body has quite a bit of heft to it and a ton of juiciness, and it finishes with a nice bit of lingering tropical fruit. Big, juicy, and quite excellent.

Pure Project Transdimensional West Coast Double IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. A big DIPA that delivers all the West Coast profile that it should -- lots of tropical fruit plus citrus and the faintest hint of pine. The 8.5% is well-hidden -- there's some nice sweetness in the body that matches the hop profile and this has a nice clean dry but not overly bitter finish.

Fieldwork White Dahlia Belgian Wit (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Honestly, a really good exemplar of the style -- I can think of few other wits that I've had that nail this profile in the nose and up front. The nose has the yeast notes you'd expect with primarily fruit and citrus and only the slightest bit of spice. Not a ton of carbonation and slightly cloying on the palate, but still quite nice overall. With a touch more carbonation, this would be about perfect.

MadeWest + Shred Short-Lived West Coast IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Really great pine/resin notes on this as well as some stone fruit and a very slight bit of berries amid some citrus. The body is quite light and clean and really lets the hops shine through in the body, too, and not much bitterness in the finish. Great hop profile, and the beer really centers that up front.

Alvarado Street Mai Tai PA Tropical IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Lots of passion fruit and other tropical notes in the nose, and a relatively simple, clean body. The body is medium to light and carries some nice fruity sweetness, and the lacing is sticky and hangs around forever. Quite good and the tropical hop profile would stand out of a pack -- it's quite unique.

Burgeon + Human People Crystal Dreams DDH IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Really bright hop notes in the nose with a big mix of tropical fruit and citrus, and a very light body that lets the hops shine through there, too. Very drinkable, clean finish with just a touch of lingering fruit, and very enjoyable.

Fieldwork Middle Out West Coast IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. Nice tribute to San Diego IPAs, and this delivers what it should incredibly well -- lots of tropical fruit, citrus, pine, resin, and a bit of white-wine in the nose. Very light body that has some nice fruity sweetness but also a crispness and slight bitterness in the finish that is excellent. Very happy with this.

Alvarado Street Cold Pressed Hazy IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. Incredible tropical profile in the nose and up front on this -- lots of stone fruit, citrus, and just a wide variety of other tropical notes. Juicy body that has some thickness to it, and really lingers on the palate with only a slight pith-like bitterness.
