Stereotype: Tattooed people live unhealthy lifestyles.

The problem with this stereotype is that it is often difficult to get people to do any study and open their minds to new information. Perceptions may be real, but that doesn’t mean it is right.

It seems there may be a lack of understanding about why people get tattoos, who gets tattoos, and the whole tattoo process. It’s like the perception resembles that only people who don’t care about themselves or don't care about their lives in the future are the ones who get tattooed and that the tattoo process is unclean and unhygienic. And people getting it are undisciplined and can't get real jobs.

Which is actually not true. Getting a tattoo doesn't define your lifestyle and doesn't tell who you are. People can get a tattoo regardless of what and who they are. In fact, there are people who are working in a company with a higher position who has a lot of tattoos on their bodies. Smart people and qualified people can have a tattoo. Also, there are tattooed people who work hard every day to help their families and there are tattooed people who are studying so hard just to get a degree just like people who don't have tattoos.

I personally experienced getting misunderstood because of my tattoos. A classmate of mine told me straight to my face that I look like a prisoner because of my tattoos. Also, sometimes when I go out, people would stare at me like I’m an alien. But I’m used to these reactions from people who don’t really know me.

Reminder, tattoos don't make you less of a person. Tattooed people are normal people too. There shouldn't be any boundaries between tattooed and untattooed people. We should normalize seeing a person with a drawing on his body. As long as that person doesn't do any harm to you, let him be.

So if you think that tattooed people have an unusual lifestyle, think again. Tattoos are just a form of art. Tattoos won't make a person a criminal, undisciplined, untidy, or any negative words you can describe. Tattoos are for everyone.
