Who's stronger? Addana or Mo

Idk, neither of them really fight physically. Like they know basic self defence and Adanna is pretty good with a gun but aside from that they're the most mage coded characters ever. If they were in an RPG or something, both of their melees would hitting the enemy with a staff/spellbook. In arm wrestling match, Mo would win. In a knife fight? Adanna would win.

Very few of my characters are that into combat and if they are it's because they're a war veteran… 🥹

Now in terms of magic/supernatural abilities, Mo ends a majority of the cast, Adanna included. Um. But they don't like killing people unless they have to, that's mean.

Claire (She/Her)

Adanna met her around 15 when they were both in the same high school. But the relationship ended when Adanna was 16. She had to move away in order to pursue higher education for a medical career.

Noëlle (She/Her)

Adanna met her when she was 17 and shadowing a forensic pathologist. They both happened to be apprentices of the same doctor just at different hours of the day. It was lowkey a rivals to lovers situation because Noëlle did not like having competition but they grew to like each other and started dating when Adanna was 18 years old. But it only lasted a year because of the love bombing and manipulation and the gaslighting, gatekeeping and girlbossing. Then one day, Noëlle ghosted her, ghosted everyone actually! Adanna hasn't seen her since…

Oson (He/Him)

They got together when Adanna was 24 years old! The first and last man Adanna would be in a committed relationship with womp womp. It lasted 2 years and they ended on good terms. That's it. 👍

Mo (They/Them)

Adanna met them on a rainy night when she was 26 years old. That's all I can tell you!

Questions for Mo & Adanna

- have they had romantic partners before each other?

- What does a good day look like for them?

- Are there any hobbies they wish they could get into but don't have the time for?

- What reaction do they have to their own reflection?

I actually made a relationship timeline for Adanna a week ago. Starting from when she was 15. It doesn't include any flings or anything like that, only established relationships that lasted more than 6 months.

(Can you guess what she finds attractive in a partner?)

As for Mo, they've had a few situationships here and there. But only one real relationship. A homoerotic friendship turned fully romantic with a break up that nearly sent them to the psych ward. But don't feel too bad for Mo, they're the one who fumbled.

A good day for both of them is a day without obligations.

When it comes to hobbies, I think Adanna wishes she had more time to practice the guitar. Mo would tend to a garden if given the time.

Lastly, I don't think they would have any reactions to their reflections, or rather, their reactions would be pretty neutral!

What were your main inspirations for this story and the characters?

I’ve answered this already kinda. But for the story? I guess my main inspiration was “Frankenstein” from 1931. My character inspirations are here

But as for the dynamic between Mo and Adanna? Strangely enough? A painting inspired that.

how do earlier versions of the characters (and maybe the whole story) compare to what you have now? why did things develop that way? i love baby mo so much

I do not have the heart to look at my old drawings but it was waaaaay different. High fantasy, classic elemental stuff. Very DnD-esque too. As in the characters would travel the world and stuff.

But as time went on, the setting got smaller and smaller. And it went from high fantasy with insane fantasy races to horror and a bit more grounded world building.

We also went from anachronistic and vaguely medieval to straight up just 30s France.

I think I took the “kill your darlings” advice too far but honestly? I like TDL much better this way.

Also Mo was an elf thing.

The only thing that stayed the same from pre-alpha to beta TDL was Adanna wearing glasses.

Personality wise Mo was way meaner. Like I don’t consider them mean now but they’re still like, playfully mean. Pre-alpha Mo was straight up nasty. Also Adanna was with a man. Mo was originally a side character that showed up for 1 arc but I think I liked their design so much that I upgraded them to co-protagonist.

I think the reason it went from light hearted fantasy to a more grounded horror was simply because I was doing too much. Current TDL only focuses on the happenings of 1 city and if there are other regions involved, it’ll usually be through memory. I think the story is more effective if it’s isolated to one city.
