A sideblog in which I scream about books. I have also very recently realized I post my book reactions as if live texting them to a friend. I do not apologize for this. I TAG MY SPOILERS WITH [BOOK TITLE] SPOILERS!

It’s Not a Plot Hole, It’s Just Something That They Opted Not to Spoon-feed You Because It Would Be Obvious If You Thought About It For 20 Seconds
vs.
It May Be a Plot Hole, But It Still Works In Terms of the Story’s Themes and Character Logic

Okay, It Is a Plot Hole, What Are You Going to Do, Cry about It?

my best tip for anyone trying to get back into reading is to remember that you can read books to avoid other responsibilities in ur life and it can become a vice if you play your cards right

I have now read All Systems Red from The Murderbot Diaries, and I think the main charm of it is I went in fully expecting a "Humans treat robots like appliances then some of them slowly learn not to because of This One Special Example" but instead the crew immediately goes "No, Murderbot is a person. Look at it, it's got anxiety."
Meanwhile, Murderbot itself is like "Why was I cursed with a face. Please treat me like an appliance so I don't have to make eye contact with any of you. I've got anxiety."

My beloved Libby app is at its antics again.
It's FINALS WEEK in the saga of Yarny-goes-to-community-college!
I am turning into "let the next person borrow it" Oprah. You get moved up the list! And YOU get moved up the list! Everybody's getting moved up the waitlist!
...does anyone else swear their Libby app has a sense for when they're starting a new book from their owned TBR? Because that is INEVITABLY when my Libby holds decide to come pouring in.
Still love Libby though! I cannot EXPRESS how much I love Libby and my public library!

that some people respond to any well-foreshadowed reveal with “ugh that plot twist was so predictable” proves bad faith criticism has rotted their brains to the point they think it’s bad writing if they can correctly identify information the writers were intentionally giving them

Today is Terry Pratchett's birthday. While I came later to his worlds than I should have, I'm so glad to have found them.

She just looked more certain. “You’re Peri’s SecUnit.”
First of all I spent like a good 10 seconds figuring out who "Peri" is before it hit me. Second of all, ART TOLD ITS HUMANS ABOUT MURDERBOT, I LOVE IT!

more from my 2021 costume grad collection - details from the Tiffany Aching look. 🌱
This took a loot of art finishing/dyeing/hand-stitching (there’s dirt, Schmere, different types of grease & eeverything in there) & I used a lot of buttons inherited from my gran :)

There once was a girl, clever and good, who tarried in shadows in the depths of the wood.
There also was a King--a shepherd by his crook, who reigned over magic and wrote the Old Book.
The two were together, so the two were the same: the girl, the king....and the monster they became.

The beginning of All Systems Red is probably the fastest I've ever been hooked by a book, the first line alone got me pretty good but the whole first chapter has stuck in my head- the visuals, the timing and pacing of each line, every time I've relistened/reread it (too many times to admit) it I can see it so vividly so finally drew them to release them from my head

(I've already realized I feel I made Secunit too tall and long in these but releasing them before I say I'm going to redraw it all again)
