I'm kind of obsessed with this moment because like

Jax has been harassing Ragatha all day, actively trying to drive a wedge between her and Pomni, and just generally trying to break down her mask of positivity for no other reason than his own amusement.

But she still apologizes to him because she sees what's really behind his behavior. Because she knows she upset him and genuinely regrets it. Because even after everything he's put her through, she still cares about him.

And he's only realizing it now that it's far too late to change course.

I really loved this scene because Jax completely froze and didn't stop looking her way even after she left, he was frozen and lost in his thoughts while Pomni was left in a very awkward position because of the tension between those two oh i hate them

Jax assumed he knew the full truth of who Ragatha is as a person, he assumed that he could taunt her into becoming like him, as prideful as him. He most likely assumes everyone is like that.

This is how he talks about her

That is how anyone talks about someone they don't know on a deeper level but they still feel suspicious of or simply don't like. He assumes she's pretending all the time and that her kindess has no meaning. He assumes he knows her.

And when she apologized, when she admitted and even went back to her own mistake from earlier and mentioned it herself despite her pride being hurt (something he would not do about his own mistakes because of his pride and the persona he puts on)

When she did that she immediately shattered the perception and narrative he had built in his mind about her, that deep inside she was mean and everything she was was a farse. She actually faced her flaws and apologized and proved him wrong and he has no idea how to deal with that

I absolutely ADORED this episode and I've already rewatched it a dozen times- the character development and animation and voice acting just gets better and better every ep ohmygosh it was an absolute BLAST and was well worth the wait!!

Episode 5 Secret Names? Pets referenced?

Multiple times throughout episode 5 we see references to four specific first names. First, I thought it was just in the White House adventure.

Holly, Effie, and Frank.

Most of the book shelf's book names were random letters, which I tried to decode but found nothing, and there were 3 with just first names on it which I thought was weird.

Then I saw it again

In the background of the Bar Scene, there are these two plaques.

Effie & Holly, and Teddy.

I can't make out what the text above says but it appears that the text below says "Award for being the Best Girls/Best Boy" The picture above Teddy is a dog, and I assume they are all they are all dogs/pets of one of the animators.

I got so hype I thought it was gonna be revealing their names but alas no ig.

BUT

There's this picture of Caine with the text "for outstanding leadership" beneath it, however it looks like there is a first name before Caine which looks like "Zach"?

If anyone can see it better or has an idea about it's meaning PLEASE I wanna know. I'm thinking maybe Caine the ringmaster is named after one of the founders of C&A and this is proof?

On Kinger's brief it says "NOTE: NO FUNNY BUSINESS! DON'T EMBARRASS THE PRESIDENT OF THIS GREAT NATION! >:(" This is really interesting to me because it's already flattering(?) to Pomni that Jax thought a "position of power suited her" but the fact that he gave everyone briefs EXCEPT Pomni that said not to embarrass her. It's solid proof how much Jax wants Pomni to enjoy the adventure. (Probably cuz he doesn't want her to abstract like the Frog guy) You could also say that Jax is being mean by not giving Pomni a brief but I think it just proves that he wants to be the only one allowed to mess with her.

There are 3 books on the shelf in the White House that just have names on them, "Holly", "Effie" and "Frank".. a little interesting...

On the desk behind Pomni's in the Oval Office, there is a picture of Jax in a tie and hat, a picture of Ragatha made of... cardboard? and a picture of an abstracted circus member (i feel like thats definitely the frog again if this is from Jax's mind

Jax doesn't feel like he's acting anymore (Stargazing scene)

"Why are you always pretending everything's always fine? If you tell someone they're loved and appreciated everyday it just- kinda loses all meaning." I think its really interesting that Jax says this as if he's speaking to Rags even though he isn't. He's clearly thought through what he wants to say to her. I think this quote also shows that he isn't sick of Ragatha, he's just sick of her fake constantly cheery persona. He wants to feel appreciated by her, he just feels like she never means it when she says it. (Also, I don't think there's some dark evil Ragatha whose entire persona is fake, I do think she is naturally cheery and friendly, but she pushes herself to be like that all the time and Jax sees through it and is sick of it)

"ALSO SHE'S DUMB AND SHE LOOKS WEIRD" is obv Jax trying to cover up his genuine thinking about it - back to the persona.

Words cannot explain how much I love the intermission- its like the dancing fruits on steroroids

OK in the intermission- at some point, Pomni, Jax, Gangle, Ragatha, and Kinger are lined up and Pomni and Jax have bowling balls above their head which subsequently squish them. Gangle and Ragatha have cakes that fall on them, and Kinger also has a bowling ball. I have very little clue what this means. My only idea is that it represents that only something really strong could take out Jax or Pomni, while Ragatha and Gangle are more fragile and could get taken out by something way less heavy. I don't know if this will parallel end-of-series events or if it even matters at all. Also Kinger isn't crushed by the ball, but rather taken out by a rook, showing that perhaps he's the mentally strongest (even though he's crazy, he's survived the longest), however, something out of left field could affect him big time. All this being said - where is zooble?

Jax running (away from his past?) but stopping at Ribbit's door- yikes. There are abstraction eyes all around and I think its fair to say that Jax played some role in his abstraction.

Jax saying "ah a youtuber" was like earth shattering because I asssumed this was like 90's-00's, but does help us paint a timeline, and so we know that Jax joined recently enough for Urban Exploration to be a youtube thing

"Hiding somethinggggg-" "You'd know all about that, wouldn't you?' God I love Zooble, but yeah more confirmation that he's hiding something

Jax referencing Breaking Bad and Ragatha not getting it also helps establish a timeline- we know Jax joined 2008 or later, but the fact that Ragatha doesn't get it means she was either there before that or has 0 pop culture knowledge

Ragatha talking about her life even though no one asked- she tries to be there for everyone but no one cares about her

Ragatha says she did real estate, but if she joined around the same time Jax might have (2008), thats when the Great Recession was going on, so not a great time to be a real estate agent, this could have caused her to leave her job and end up at the circus.

Also, Jax's sad face when Rags talks about her abusive mother- realizing that that might be the reason she feels she needs to be perfect all the time.
