This tripped me out so bad when I watched the show. There were so many candles and they just snuggled down in the sheets like they weren’t in an active fire hazard room.

I’m afraid it never will leave.

So I watched The Edge of Sleep (on Tubi, because it’s free and I’m in Australia) and it’s actually pretty good.

The supernatural & surreal elements are suitably creepy. The existential dread works very well. The gore is not particularly realistic but not overdone. It’s an enjoyable short horror series.

*But the theme tune won’t get out of my head*.

Some gems from my readings that I wanted to share. I adore the dynamic the author built in the books they couldn’t/didn’t in the podcast and tv show. It felt more raw than I could have thought, in a good way

“Oh yeah, that junky girl-“

He narrowed his eyes, reaching the limit of his ‘bullshit-tolerance’. He could deal with being insulted, but he drew the line at Katie being called anything demeaning.

“Hey, don’t call her that! You don’t know what she’s been through!”

And they didn’t. They didn’t know what she’s been through. They weren’t the ones who would find her curled up in the corner of the room, mumbling and scratching at her arms.

They weren’t the ones who would hold her hands and reassure her that whatever she was seeing wasn’t there. They weren’t the ones who would coax her to a restless sleep, staying awake to make sure she stayed breathing.

They weren’t the ones who would hold her while she cried and tried to explain why she had done it again. They weren’t the ones who had to sit by and watch, damn near helpless as she wasted away time and time again.

And they didn’t see her on her good days. They didn’t get to see her shimmy and sing along to songs on the radio. They didn’t get to see her when she would sketch in that beat up notebook, tongue between her teeth with a crease between her brows, so concentrated on the page she would lose track of time.

No one else got to hold her and playfully endure her teasing and jokes that only made sense if you knew her long enough. No one else got to listen to her blurt out the most random things or remind her why, exactly, they couldn’t go get a cat from the shelter (she seemed to forget she had allergies).

No, they didn’t see any of that. They didn’t experience any of the chaotic, messy, beautiful jumble that was Katie.

And he wouldn’t stand here and let anyone try and tarnish her name because they don’t know.
