As he approached the new apparent home (cave, it was a cave) of his former friend, Zane tried not to think about how it all had gotten to this point. How Kai had been kicked out of their lives, about the time in between Kai’s time on the street and the orphanage when he’d been bitten. Zane would have gone to thought about if they’d have to worry about the baby devourer but Kai’s necklace was proof that they’d not need to worry about another Garmadon. ..another.. Kai.

He notes the carved sign in amusement; “no earth/water elemental masters allowed >:(“

Then he continues on into the cave, thinking and trying not to think. Finally his mind is blank, and he can see a light further in the cave-

“Never thought one of you would be masochistic enough to try and visit” came the familiar yet distorted voice from beyond the fire, from a faint shadow on the wall. Reminiscent of garmadon all those years ago… only this time the source of the shadow walks through the flames to take a glance at the nindroid. “Look at we got here, a cold hearted ‘Hero’,” Kai smirks quickly getting to zanes side, body language smooth, almost feline like. “I hope you know im not about to sing yours or the others praises” Kai snorts as he walks around the nindroid, finishing the lap around Zane and waltzing back to the fire pit.

“Im not here-” Zane starts but has to start over having decided he did not like how he sounded. Kai stops in his tracks and turns toward Zane, eyebrows raised. “im not here for kind words or praises. I want to talk.”

Kai says nothing at first and turns to look at the fire. “Oookay… well i dont have any conversation starters so.. Talk.”

“I- …Recently, in this world the ninja fought and defeated a serpentine sorceress. Aspheera. I am not 100% on the specifics because I was… hit with a blast meant to sent me away. And send me away it did..” 

“Oohkay? You’re back now dude.” Kai sighs and turns to face Zane once more “don't make me pinch you. It’ll hurt.”

“Once i got there-to where i was… i had to try to connect with the others.. It did not work and.. 

I was sabotaged by someone native to that realm. They did not have the intended effect they wanted and I retaliated but lost my memory. Not only that but i was sent away with a dangerous artifact, one that corrupts the mind-” 

“What so you killed them?” Kai snorts “thats just self defence. Besides who of you ninja doesn't have a kill count?”

“I- i do we? Uhm- not what im talking about.. It was worse than that. I… befriended my attacker because they said they were helping and i couldn't tell their truth from their lies.” kai seems bored and like he wants to cut this talk short. “Under their influence I overthrew the ruler and took his position. I committed genocide and terrorism.” 

“Really?” a scoff “how many people could you kill in a realm in like a month?” 

“Well… it turns out there was a.. Time difference between this realm and my… empire’s..” a blink this time… looks like hes no longer bored. “What was a week or two for you… was over two centuries for me.”

Kai’s mind just visually goes blank.

“Oh shit”

He sits down on the fire pit

Zane does not bother explaining farther.

“Our… my friends have tried to treat me as i was before but… its wrong, i figured i would get what i deserve from you. That you might speak truth about what i've become…”

“Uh- but-” Kai’s braincell tries to function again. “This… doesn't seem like your fault. I mean a bad vibey artifact and manipulation AND amnesia? I mean its over now. You’re back. What you did doesn't exactly… affect the ninja or.. Me for that matter… so it makes sense that they’ve just gone back to their normal” He mutters before looking at Zanes concerned face “if you’re really that concerned about it consider it to be like parole and eventually you’ll be out on good behavior..?”

“But its wrong.”

“What?”

“Its wrong.” 

“How- oh… Zane my situation is different.”

“How is it different?!” he yells “we threw you out for faux betraying us. You came through in the end yet we could see past that or see your point of view!” Zane kneels down in the dirt.

“... like i said earlier, what you did did not affect them. They have no personal experience with the horrors ‘you’ put them through. What I did? I was Nya and Lloyd older brother and they perceived me betraying them and, first master, it hurt them. You all wanted to hurt me for the hurt i caused you all, Frosty. Most evil dictators dont get a second chance. Id suggest you take it.”

“But why do I get to back to them and you dont.”

“Because they learned from me. They learned that a scorned loved one wont want to come back. You want to talk second chances? Nya and Lloyd have tried to get me back. I’m not ready. Dunno if i’ll ever be ready.” he looks at his skin.

“Go back to the family, frosty. Feel the love and think of everything you do now as trying to make up for the horrors, for your crimes. You might never make up for it but you can do good from here on out.”

Also the ninja still try to help even without their elements, Kai knows this so he sends the kabuki and cultists out to cause mayhem while he takes on garmadon. (Waitaminute, is the world about to end at kais hand and wu is just.... napping or something??)

I think if Kai ever leaves villainy behind him he'd be an anarchist, actively booing the government and refusing to help the ninja on missions for them unless nya or Lloyd is in fatal danger

Maybe instead of samurai X the ninja decides whomever takes down Kai is the green ninja, Kai gets confused and asks for context. When given context he gets an evil grin on his face, "Do theoretically according to your bet... I get to choose who this 'green ninja' is?" And when the ninja all pause in shock Kai nabs Lloyd and runs off

Does nya feel resentful of Lloyd like right after Kai being her brother is revealed?

I mean, he had the opportunity to have Kai as a brother and the chance to spend time with him and instead he spent time with Wu and the ninja.

What do you think the timeline is for garmadon getting banished and Lloyd being born? I like to think Lloyd was conceived like a week before garmadon was banished so the dude didn't even know he had a kid until later

Also does Kai know that Nya actually thought she was the master of fire? Or did he think that she knew she was just a fill in?

Also I love that technically this means lord garmadon, once out of the realm of madness, took one look at how Kai and nya interact with each other, thinks back on his relationship with Wu and thinks "yeah, they know they are siblings. Nothings wrong here :)"

Do both versions of Garmadon (Lord/Sensei) see Kai as their son or like a soldier/nephew you raised?
