i think we should all start using arabic words and phrases more often because its a beautiful language and also theres not really. english equivalents that have the same vibes
theres also the comedy potential of it. you guys dont know the joy of having your muslim friend text you "hopefully the racists in our city will all get sick and cant go to the protest" and you, as a pasty white guy, responding with "inshallah they get covid"
its a one hit KO every time. its fucking hilarious. theres no english word that has the same effect.
he also once texted me that he got over a mysterious illness he came down with (i think? i cant remember the exact context) and i responded with "subhanallah he is cured"
again, one hit KO. he lost his shit.
what im saying is we gotta normalise arabic. its just a language like any other, and it has some great words. its just like saying "thank god" or whatever, but theres so much variety and nuance. its beautiful

my grandfather was talking to me about a book he read on how politicians gave control to rich people and it fucked america and he was like "oh yeah this reminded me of a video I watched. It was Robert Reich. Do you know who Robert Reich is? He was clinton's secretary of labor" and I just nodded silently because I didn't know how to explain to my grandpa that yes I know who Robert Reich is. I watch his son psychologically torment improv comedians

Just looked at a blog where the header description said 'sometimes I reblog posts I like so I don't forget them'.
And I feel like that, right there, explains so much about how the site has changed in the last few months.
People now think reblogging is an unusual behaviour, rather than a default.
Tumblr newbies, please, for the love of baby Jesus, reblog the posts you like. That is the whole reason the site exists - for you to collect all your shiny fandom objects in a single space. Which you can organize to your heart's content. Or not organize at all, if that's your jam.
Our blogs are intended to be collections of posts, not collections of likes.

you couldn't write 1984 today. since it's 2024 and the book is supposed to be in the future. so it would have to be called something else. like 2074 or something

You know the way y’all are so desperately trying to defend cis women’s ‘right’ to deny trans men literally everything bc ‘women shouldnt have to deal with men invading their spaces 🥺’ (in reference to an obgyn btw) im starting to think y’all aren’t even trying to be allies to trans men but instead are just pretending .
Trying to frame trans people as aggressors trying to invade poor innocent women’s spaces is always gonna be transphobic.

One of the things that has confounded me since I was a child is the way we privilege religion in this country. Something that is 100% chosen - zero people are born religious - is legally protected and often successfully used as a cudgel against actual inborn traits.
Really puts the lie to the First Amendment and explains how full of shit the US truly is.

I know it’s not hard to point out reactionaries hypocrisy when it comes to like safe spaces or hug boxes or whatever but genuinely how much of an echo chamber do you have to exist in for you to think this is a reasonable thing to say

tiktok is such an awful app, it's almost designed to feed you misinformation and expose you to insane discourse. unlike beloved tumblr, the app that feeds me misinformation and exposes me to insane discourse

When a trans woman says “do not call me dude or bro,” that is not an invitation to explain to her why you are going to call her that. Simply do not use the words. If you are told “do not misgender me,” it does not matter how much you explain how you aren’t misgendering her when you use a term that’s misgendering her. It does not matter if you don’t think you’re misgendering her by using a masculine term in a gender neutral way.
All you are telling her is that you do not care about her as a person and will misgender her as long as you feel like you are justified in doing so, which is the exact same logic used by transphobes in misgendering trans people. You cannot tell someone what their gender is. You cannot see their true gender, better than them, and decide what words you want to use.
When you say you are using bro or dude in a gender neutral way, you are not calming her down. You are telling her that she is to blame for the dysphoria caused by your misgendering.
All you need to do is not use the words she tells you not to use. Oftentimes it’s two words. All you need to do is not call one person two specific words. It’s tiring seeing people willing to die on this hill, defending their right to misgender trans women because they can’t let go of two words for a little bit.
