the guy running group therapy when i was 10:
My cats wanted to fight again and I wasn't letting them but the passion in their eye contact suggests they started fighting telepathically

I'm really not good enough at embroidery to give advice on it, but what helped me personally when getting back into crochet (and now slowly embroidery) was to pick one or two stitches and just... do a piece with only those. no pattern at all, just go in rows or circles, alternate between the stitches, use funky colors, whatever makes it more interesting to work on
it makes it very easy to see your early progress! when I tried to follow a pattern for the first time I thought there was no hope for me, it looked SO bad but reading patterns, getting spacing and thread tension right, actually knowing the movements required for each stitch... those are all different skills that come together to form embroidery! and if you're bonked down in how wonky the pattern turned out? you won't even notice how your tension improved, or how your stitches got more even as you went along. you'll only see the mistakes
"get your basics down" is definitely not ground-breaking advice, but I've found that approaching it from a point of curiosity (what does this stitch look like in this shape? what little tricks will i discover? in what ways will i improve?) was a lot more helpful than seeing it as a sort of necessary evil
not using a pattern also means you can't compare every little detail of your beginner work to the same thing made by an expert! as much as learning from someone better than you is great, it stops being that once you beat yourself up over not being as good. punishment is no motivator, "punishment" including insulting yourself or your efforts!
I've seen your "go learn embroidery" posts and I'm tempted! But. I've not touched a needle and thread since making a single very bad pillow when i was small (7-9ish?). Do you know of any resources for getting from 0% skill to 10% skill, so I can start using all those other resources you've posted about?
Yeah sure! honestly starting with a kit will get you all the supplies you need without worrying about how to get started or what to buy, and then if you keep with it you have a hoop and needle already. Sometimes kits can be expensive (because indie artists gotta eat) but you want kits from indie artists not from like. amazon or mass dropshipped etsy shops. There's lists online of places to start but I like Capital Stitch Co - theyre a company local to me who don't know I exist lol. The friend I've mentioned who stitched up her cat's portrait, one of their kits was her second project, after a Diana Vingert project she did where I gave her a list of patterns and let her shop my stash for materials. Cozyblue is also great. This is starting to get long but honestly what I look for in 'beginner' patterns are designs that casually use a variety of stitches so that you can get used to handling a needle in different ways. Floral designs are usually a good way to showcase that and get in a lot of texture. It's also in my experience easier to get discouraged when an embroidery of an animal or person looks 'wrong' lol. With plants or bugs or mushrooms, it's kinda easier to process what its supposed to be vs getting hung up on details.
I have another post about getting started with supplies that I can reblog after this but: don't overthink it. Pick a design, pick up the supplies, and start stitching.
#textile art really lends itself to this sort of practice i think#there was nothing more motivating than running my fingers over my stitches and feeling how they changed from start to end#also a good chance to experiment with details like how you hold the hoop most comfortably. or where you rest the arm holding the needle#i feel like an arrogant prick adding embroidery advice to an actual embroidery blog#but i swear it worked for me

What kind of soup do you like?
oh man I just love soup in general! even made some of my own chicken broth to freeze a few weeks ago
I'd say a creamy vegetable soup is up there, as well as miso soup... but my comfort soup is definitely Flädlesuppe

Flädle are a German thing, basically plain crepe-style pancakes (thinner than US pancakes but thicker than normal crepes) that are rolled up and cut into thin strips You just add those into a clear broth of some kind and got yourself a Flädlesuppe! though of course you can always add other stuff to it
some stores even sell them dried in bags, so you literally just throw them in there and they rehydrate in the soup. highly recommend!

I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"

man i got so excited thinking someone was writing a literal novel in your inbox
fantastic things can happen in your inbox, like currently someone is writing a novel on why they don’t think my ship is canon with episodes and time stamps and I’m going to continue daydreaming about them fucking because I have the power of my sick perverted mind idc what happens in canon that’s not real to me

the scariest thing about the generative AI thing is how quickly people have accepted it as an indefinite, irrevocable part of their reality. people have genuinely convinced themselves that ChatGPT is the only solution to most tasks - tasks they did with their own brain without any large effort two years ago. like you know damn well all of us used to write emails ourselves why are we pretending like this is an impossible task to do with your own two hands. what's with the fucking. AI revisionism. i feel like i am going insane.
#just scheduling this for random times in the future#don't mind me#someday maybe i'll reblog it and someone will point and laugh because chatgpt has already long died
