Ways in which Carmy does the opposite of the mini rejections he’s done to Claire with Sydney:

1. Got told ONCE to communicate and now texts her non-stop stream of consciousness style. (He keeps going even when she doesn’t respond for actual hours).

2. HATES not talking to her. The silent treatment literally hurts his feelings.

3. Remembers everything about her. Their first conversation, everything.

4. Remembers even the most random complaints and fixes them WITHOUT BEING ASKED.

5. Thoughtful, useful, and expensive gifts just because.

6. Trusts her with the things that are wrong with him.

7. Legitimately thinks she’s like a better more evolved person who should not be stained by his bullshit.

8. Eagerly and actively enveloped her in his family and introduced her to everyone even when he was panicked and scared about it.

9. Has found all kinds of ways to express his love without having to outright say it - even though at this point he has.

10. Understands her and knows her so well he can actually read her mind and predict her thoughts and it’s lowkey freaky.

11. Is an idiot who has hurt her feelings, but genuinely tries to fix what he does and always apologizes. Never waits to apologize either.

12. Notices things without her having to even say anything. Just constant “what’s going on?” Or “what’s wrong? You’re being weird.”

13. They have inside jokes and ‘bits,’ that are unique to them: “I’m sorry” in sign, math, food stuff.

14. Notices when she changes something about her appearance.

15. Actually fights with her. Doesn't just go MIA when something is wrong. Actually tries to figure it out even though he's stupid and sometimes doesn't get it.

There is a very clear difference in Carmy’s deposition in replicants. To me, I feel like Carmy has made peace with Claire and is starting to move on! He’s back in Al Anon, he’s happily looking and finding inspiration in his city, he’s being a wonderful mentor to Marcus, he’s receiving beautiful affirmations from Tina, and he’s apologizing and attempting healthy communication with Syd.

He even gets to meet and be in the presence of his niece. All in all things are looking up for Carmy in a way we haven’t seen in awhile (if ever) and lowkey it took me back to him leaving for New York. It’s not until tragedy strikes with Sydney’s father that they are both thrown back into their default settings. Sydney’s insistence that she’s ok and does not need his help in this pivotal/personal moment unintentionally pushes him away, and that mindset continues in Sophie. So much so that this is confirmed by the call he receives from Shapiro. I think this call plus Sydney’s confirmation that Claire is great leads him to reach out, to likely Ted, and check in on Claire. Then he has a touch point when they speak at the wedding. Now we’re back in the loop. But for about 25 minutes we had a taste of what it would be like if the cycle was broken. This is when things start to gel and this is also just before the self sabotage starts (for both of them).

All of this cuteness, of all the panic-attack yearning, and her resetting him upon appearance, and him tracking her around the tent, and all the vertical platonic married-couple intimacy in "Green" and "Tonnato" happen with him having full knowledge that Shapiro is trying to get her.

He is totally unbothered other than he doesn't want her leaving home for someplace he knows is lesser and will be lonely. If he's threatened or jealous, he doesn't indicate it for a second to her. We simply gather that he loves her and he wants her to see that and know that.
