AHH I’m running late
So reading the serpent of venice is like climbing up a wall it has its ups and downs. The ups in this book, I would say would be the character depth, Writing style and the occasional Funny moment. The downs however would be the entire plot, and the writing style, and the fact that they called characters by multiple names at different times. An example of the ups would be on page 98 where you get to hear the main character’s thoughts “ I am a trained thief, one simply can’t expect me to ride in a boatload of gold and leave it unmolested. One ducat(gold coin), what is one ducat.”This I believe is a great example of how the writing style shows itself in a way that if you didn’t know before you know now that the main character is a pretentious asshole. While some people may be turned off at the fact that so many small details have such importance in the plot, take marco polo who pops up out of nowhere and reveals that he has this slime that ends up killing several bad guys later on in the book. Tons of small things like this make the book a fun little exploration.
Ps: this book is a sequel… just a heads up so you know, I didn’t and this might have cleared up some of the confusing plot

The serpent of venice is a good book and a pretty good chuckle for those who read it Mainly its the combination of three stories into one. And its written well but not amazingly. Firstly I would like to say that the audio book is like 10x better than the actually book. Then Again it may have been because I decided the voices for people were something lousy which i guess ruined my experience of reading. But as for the story and plot its actually beautiful in the way how it comes together in the end, well for the most part... The writing is a bit confusing and it is sometimes hard to tell who is talking and when, this I would guess would be my fault in assuming that one of the first characters to speak would be the ones to tell the story. But in all honesty the book seems as thou it was written in the style of a play or from my interpretation it seemed like it. Love the characters, ending is shit but my suspicion is that it leads into the next book. Book is 7.6/10

Legit wrote this in 7 minutes, Update 9
So this is going to be a overall review for the book Extremely loud and incredibly close by Jonathan Saran Foer due to the fact that any of the notes I still have on the book would complete the or destroy the plot so to say... So Overall i would rate this book an 8.4/10
Pros:
Good story- once you understand what is going on the book seems to have a flow to it chaining off to a different part of the story but still continually flowing
Deep story- I’m not somebody who gets hit hard by sad things i could read books on war, disaster, and murder all day and not feel sad in any sort of way, but this book almost got to me several times and I think that it should from the way that the story is setup it works well with the story that it portrays and in a sense is meant for you to feel the emotions of the characters and form almost a bond with them so that when they feel pain you feel pain.
The Writing- this is a very unique style of writing jumping from two first person perspectives as well as I guess I would say a third person perspective at some parts of the story all the while keeping it relevant  and keeping you in tune with the story as it switches back and forth from these perspective jumps.
Character development
Cons:
The Writing- although i did say that the writing is good and it has a good flow it can be very confusing at first when you read it since it took me a couple of perspective changes to realize that “hey there is more than one person speaking”. For that it, some people might not realize that at all or very late in this book making this confusing and very negative on the plot from where each character stands and what is going on in the situation
Sadness- I’m somebody who doesn’t tune into sad situations of oh i should be sad at this, i do resize them i just ignore the sad parts about them and continue on. On the other hand this book is very powerful in the fact that these situations arise during the whole book to the point where somebody who is extremely emotional might have to set the book down and have a cry session or five while reading, causing you to step away from what is going on and potentially making it so that you might not understand how somebody is just pushing the sadness away while others might be keeping it as a burden and this made me bump up the score from an 8.2 to and 8.4 from the realization of the power of character plot development

So..Life, Update 8
Pg 202, I would like to hear what the doctors thoughts are while he is interviewing Oskar. I feel the almost tension and awkwardness in the writing but it almost feels like the writing was meant to be almost funny in the way that it was written. Well as far as the outcome I’m pretty sure that the outcome of the meeting is that Oscar was diagnosed as depressed and potentially anti social??

I wish I had something witty to say, Update 7
Pg 192, Poor Oskar gets bullied at school. I think this finalizes his character development for the book by showing his environment at school, we already knew his environment at home and out of home, now we know what his environment at school. Now this kind of finalizes that he is kind of an outcast of sorts and just a weird little kid. The again he is pretty smart knowing his environment and the way he reacted to the situation with the bullies shows how he is able to react to things almost if not instantly.(not sure time isn’t portrayed to well in situations like this so IL assume its within a few seconds). This i think has to do with a sense of inadequacy within Oskar making him quick to back away from bad situations with other kids his age.

When People Say They are going to call you but don’t, Update 6
Pg 142, To be or not to be that’s the question, ugh I wish this didn’t have shakespeare but it is an abbreviated version of it so that means I don’t have to deal with it for long :^), but the section of how Oskar  is going on about how he thinks he should do something else for the show instead of being Yorick. Then again his teacher tells him that if anything he will steal the show, I find this to be a perfect example of the innocence of Oskar and how he still is just a kid. In which he maybe smart and intune to the world but he ins’t the unstoppable force or the unmovable wall and this i think helps put in the situation of the story into a different perspective and the troubles that Oskar is going through

Ugh its Humid , Update 5
Page 99, I’m starting to hate and love this kid at the same time, I’m hating him because of how bold he is and how somebody should have at least taught that just going up and asking “Could we kiss for a little bit” is not OK, especially since he is 9, I could maybe expect this from like an 7 year old, but not an 9 year old. Then again imagining a 9 year old being that incredibly bold does seem pretty funny and one of those moments where you do a double take

Inspirational Quote goes here, Update  4
Pages 82-83 Oh my god this writing is powerful, I feel an immense tension in the writing Ugh it almost hurts. This is something that is what we should be studying since its more relevant and in my opinion more powerful than Shakespeare.
